A teacher has been charged with rape following an investigation into historical sex abuse allegations at Manchester music schools.

Professor Malcolm Layfield, 62, is accused of raping an 18-year-old student in 1982.

Mr Layfield, of Higher Poynton, Cheshire, is due to appear before Manchester City Magistrates' Court on 14 August.
