Two cars have been destroyed and a number of others damaged in a spate of attacks in Antrim.

A Citroen C2 was destroyed and a Subaru extensively damaged in an arson attack in the Rathkyle area that was reported at 05:25 BST on Thursday.

Fifteen minutes later, in a separate arson attack, a Vauxhall Vectra was destroyed at Oaktree Drive in the town.

Three other cars were damaged, and another stolen, in other incidents in the early hours of Thursday.

The passenger window of a Renault was smashed in a shopping centre car park on Queens Road, and the rear nearside window of a Volkswagen was smashed in the Rathkyle area.

In Edenvale Park, damage was caused to the rubber seal of a window after an attempt was made to break into a Ford car.

Some time after 03:30 BST a Vauxhall Astra was stolen after a burglary at a house in Rathmore Gardens. It was later recovered by police on the Greystone Road.

Police have not yet established a motive for the attacks, but are investigating a possible link between the arson attacks and other incidents.

They have appealed for anyone with information to contact them on 101, the new non-emergency number, or anonymously on Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
