Cardiff Airport flight disruption caused by freezing fog

Freezing fog has caused disruption to some flights at Cardiff Airport and police have issued a warning to drivers.

A KLM flight from Amsterdam to Cardiff Airport was diverted to Bristol at 10:00 GMT on Thursday, with another from Anglesey diverted to Gloucester.

An Aer Lingus flight from Dublin was also delayed for an hour.

Other aircraft were later able to land, but visibility has since deteriorated.

Conditions were described as foggy with visibility down to 400m (1,312ft).

On Thursday evening, four flights that were due to land at Cardiff Airport were unable to due to the freezing fog.

Flights from Munich and Lanzarote were diverted to Birmingham.

Earlier, a Flybe flight from Faro in Portugal was sent to Birmingham while a flight from Amsterdam was sent to Bristol.

All departures from Cardiff have also been cancelled, along with some morning flights.

A Cardiff Airport spokeswoman said the latest live flight information was available on the Cardiff Airport website.

Meanwhile, South Wales Police warned drivers of patches of freezing fog, particularly in Vale of Glamorgan.

The Met Office has issued a warning about fog affecting large areas of south and west Wales.

Forecasters expect it to become thicker on Thursday evening, with patches of dense, freezing fog forming through the night.
