A man and woman seen on a bench in a Colchester park, close to where a vulnerable man was stabbed 102 times, are yet to come forward to police.

James Attfield, 33, was found in Castle Park in Colchester early on 29 March and died soon after.

He had a brain injury after being hit by a car four years ago. Police are yet to find a weapon or a motive.

The couple were urged to come forward two weeks ago, with police renewing their appeal on Saturday.

The man and woman were seen sitting on a bench near a lake at about 23:30 GMT to 23:40 GMT on Friday, 28 March.

Mr Attfield's body was found at 05:45 GMT the next day.

E-fits of thee men police want to speak to over the fatal stabbing of James Attfield Detectives are still trying to find three men, whose E-fits were released by police on 7 April

Det Ch Insp Simon Werrett said: "The man is described as white, of stocky build, and seemed tall with long legs.

"The only description we have of the woman is that she was white.

"They were sitting at opposite ends of the bench so we do not know for certain if they knew each other, but they may have been a couple who have had a row earlier in the evening."

Mr Werrett said a witness believed a man aged 30 to 40 and wearing a dark jacket and possibly jeans was sitting on the grass about 32ft (10m) away from the couple.

"This may, or may not, have been Mr Attfield," he added.

Police said they are still piecing together Mr Attfield's movements after 22:00 GMT on 28 March, when he left the River Lodge pub in Colchester.

They are also attempting to identify three men and a number of people caught on CCTV.

A 27-year-old woman arrested in the inquiry is on bail until 24 April.
