Mill blaze devastates businesses in Inverurie

Business owners have been speaking of their devastation after a major fire in Aberdeenshire destroyed their work.

More than 50 firefighters tackled the blaze at Lethenty Mill near Inverurie, which broke out at about 04:40.

The mill promotes traditional craft skills, and creates furniture. Other businesses affected included a photography studio and vintage shop.

Nina Eggens, of Nina's Apartment vintage shop, told BBC Scotland: "I am devastated."

She explained: "I opened the business about four years ago, I have put all my time, effort and money into it."

Allan Fyfe, owner of Lethenty Mill, said: "The whole house was full of smoke and there was a wall of flame.

"It's a lifetime of work that is smoking away. I have been making furniture here for 30 years."

Six fire engines, a height vehicle and a water carrier were called to the scene.

Crews from Inverurie, Oldmeldrum, Kintore, Aberdeen and Insch battled the fire.

Local Senior Officer David Rout said: "This is a very complex building which as presented us with a significant and challenging fire."

There have been no reports of injuries from the emergency services.
