Missing Ranjit Power: Indian police charge murder suspect

A man has confessed to the murder of a British businessman who disappeared in India three weeks ago, police have said.

Ranjit Singh Power, a 54-year-old hotelier from Wolverhampton was last seen at an airport in Amritsar, Punjab on 8 May.

After he did not contact his family for a week, they feared he had been kidnapped and reported him missing.

The Foreign Office has confirmed the death of a British national in India.

Indian police told BBC Asian Network a local driver, Sukhdev Singh, has been charged with murder.

Detectives say divers are searching for Mr Power's body in a canal in Ropar District.

Mr Singh is due to appear in court tomorrow.
