Police identify Dalbeattie man killed in A75 crash

Police have identified a 55-year-old man killed in a crash involving a car and a van on a major trunk road through Dumfries and Galloway.

James Penny, of Port Street, Dalbeattie, died in the accident on the A75 two miles east of Castle Douglas on Wednesday afternoon.

He was driving the car involved in the collision.

The 46-year-old van driver, from Dumfries, was taken to hospital with leg injuries.

The road was closed in both directions for a number of hours.
