Distinguished officials,    

I am horrified by the latest news coming from Romania regarding the stray dogs.

After the tragic incident which happened in Bucharest January 26/27 2001 when a woman who trespassed on a property own by ADN has been viciously attacked by the dogs who lived on that property for long time, the Romanian Media, and most especially Realitatea PROTV, has unleashed 

a vicious campaign against all strays from Bucharest. In the middle of the first article where the facts where presented they started manipulating the public and everything was blown totally out of proportions. Every single day, new articles against stray appear every where, the public is like poisoned by the media which tries to fuel their animosity , to say the least , against animals.

Further more, a barbaric round up of strays, from all over Bucharest has started in full day light in front of passers by and children. The dogs are transported in shelters, and some times the public is banned, one shelter FUNDULEA is guarded by the Mounted Romanian Police.

There are polls in most news papers to influence the people to reintroduce the euthanasia after 7 days, the euthanasia of all sick and aggressive animals.

Mr Prefect of Bucharest Mihai Cristian Atanasoaei has made his personal battle to convince the Romanian Parliament to change the existing Law for the Protection of Animals, in order to not only reintroduce the mass killings of innocent animals, most of them spayed/neutered, but also to renounce any kind of requirements for the shelters, for how and who will perform the euthanasia, and also to completely ban any association for the protection of animals the access to the shelters.

For many years already, horrible news about how animals are treated in Romania have become public, and not a single day passes by without terrifying news from there.

Even the newly created Authority for the Management and Protection of Animals has changed her position and continues to create new rules every single day.

I would like to kindly ask you, Distinguished Officials, to contact the Romanian authorities, from the Romanian Presidency, Parliament, Bucharest City Hall, Mr.Prefect and the Director of the Authority  for the management and Protection of Animals, Mr.Robert Lorenz and convince them to fully implement the existing Law for the Protection of animals, and to apply it at national levels.

For so many years , spay/neuter campaigns took and continue to take place in Romania, financed through donations from all over the world...RAR USA, Dog Trust UK, Vier-Pfoten and many more...they money and efforts have been rewarded with the poisoning and illegal capture and killing of thousands of spayed/neutered dogs.

For almost two decades, good people from Romania, struggle through tremendous difficulties to save, care, feed and protect thousands of strays...They are discriminated against by authorities in their cities, by the Media who presents them in a very unscrupulously subjective manner, by their own peers, insulted ,verbally and sometimes physically harassed.

It is beyond a normal human being comprehension, how such horrible crimes against animals still take place in a country in EU in the 21st century.

More than half of the population in Romania has been turned against these animals whose ONLY "crime" is to have been born there...

With all due respect for Romania, as a beautiful country , with a rich history, great  writers, artists, wonderful folklore and traditions,and with all due respect and appreciation for the good Romanian people, I will avoid buying any Romanian products and traveling to Romania, until animals will be treated humanely,with compassion and in accordance with expectation we have from a civilized country, member of the EU in the 21st century.
