HEULE - Vrijdag heeft een 49-jarige man zich van het leven beroofd omdat hij geen sociale woning mocht betrekken met zijn hondje. Het slachtoffer Ronny Rosseel werd eind maart door de rechter op bevel uit zijn woning gezet. De man wilde verhuizen naar een sociale woning maar dat kon niet omdat huisdieren niet zijn toegelaten. Op Goede Vrijdag pleegde Rosseel zelfmoord. HERDENKINGSMOMENT Dinsdag hielden een veertigtal mensen een herdenkingsmoment voor Ronny. Het was de groep De Onderstroom die opriep voor een menselijker beleid ter zake. De dood van Ronny is een signaal voor onze maatschappij. WINGENE - Julien De Mey (74) die zijn intrek had genomen in een OCMW seniorenwoning heeft zijn 12-jarige poedel Mieke moeten inslapen van de plaatselijke OCMW-voorzitter Tom Braet (CD&V). De 74 jarige man is kapot van verdriet, maar de OCMW voorzitter had geen medelijden. De hond moest eruit anders konden ze beide opstappen. Braet voegde eraan toe ‘Iedereen moet afscheid nemen van zijn dier’. De reglementering is er voor iedereen en we maken voor Julien geen uitzondering. De bejaarde man trachtte de voorzitter nog te overtuigen maar die had er geen oren naar. We hebben nog geprobeerd Mieke bij een dame onder te brengen maar daar kwijnde ze weg. Naar een dierenasiel of een andere oplossing wou Julien niet zoeken. Julien zag geen andere uitkomst dan het dier in te slapen bij de dierenarts. Het verdriet is immens en ondraaglijk, als ik thuiskom zit ik daar eenzaam en alleen. EMOTIONELE BESLISSING De OCMW-voorzitter beseft dat het een emotionele beslissing was. Ook voor mij was dit hartverscheurend maar iedereen in de woningen heeft afscheid moeten nemen van zijn huisdier. Voor niemand is er een uitzondering, ook niet voor Julien. Als de man zorgbehoevend is, wie moet dan voor het dier zorgen? We hebben nooit gezegd dat hij Mieke moest laten inslapen. Maar de man wou geen andere oplossing. GAIA Dierenrechtenorganisatie GAIA ijvert al jaren dat bejaarden hun huisdieren kunnen meenemen naar een rusthuis. Soms is hun trouwe vriend het enige wat ze nog hebben. For many radicals in the united states, creating an alternative subculture or lifestyle is the preferred choice of resistance to the effects of capitalism.* From greed to over consumption, from destruction of the environment to worker exploitation, a solution will occur with a simple process of alternative consumption or lifestyle. Daily consumers are convinced that where they spend their dollar counts in supporting various causes, or in not supporting others. I maintain this as a liberal (or, more precisely, the left wing of capital) option. Dropout culture, freeganism, veganism, bike culture and other personal boycotts of products still remain as supposedly essential to any resistance.**
The intention of these personal boycotts is to create resistance by not participating in the capitalist system. However, I believe this to be similar to other liberal concepts of change. Change is not something structural and based on generalized revolt, rather it is a result of conscientious consumption of alternative-looking products. Whether found in a dumpster or bought at a liberally conscious store, the same process is at work; consumption based on our current economy. You cannot buy capitalism away or garden it away — just as you can’t dumpster it out of existence, ride away from it on a bicycle, or compost it. Revolutionary change must be a qualitative shift in economic organization through generalized revolutionary consciousness and action, through revolutionary praxis.
All of these different ways of surviving within capitalism are not to be glorified or denounced. They are just ways to free up resources or relief of self-induced guilt. We need to use any resources we have and/or acquire to create resistance without limiting ourselves with consumer ethics (or lack of). These lifestyles can never be revolutionary because they rely on capitalism for their own existence.
Additionally, by focusing on alternative consumption habits within capitalism, one puts the blame of the problem on people who have no control of how those products are produced. Those who are simply trying to survive in this fucked up economic system and who couldn’t care less if they purchase X amount of product A or Y amount of product B. When we make judgments on others for their lack of cliquish boycotting, we are doing the work of capital to keep us divided in our resistance and focused on our consumption. This self-inflicted guilt is pacifying any real resistance beyond the constraints of ethical consumption. It is to the advantage of power and capital to have the blame diverted onto the working class, who have to buy fucked up products because they get shit for pay. It is important to live without guilt in personal consumption because the only choices we have are defined by capitalism. Until we bring some kind of revolutionary change, we will have no other choices. To think we have a choice is delusional.
Not only is boycotting non revolutionary, it is counter-revolutionary. It does nothing except obscure the many problems we face as it is structurally connected to an underlying whole. Due to a lack of theoretical commitment, our social confusion about what constitutes being radical and/or pro-revolutionary leads to our implicit assumption that we can have a consumer-driven revolution. There is no anti-capitalist negation in that sentiment and as such, it can only confuse potential militants away from revolutionary understanding. There are only two ways out of capitalism — revolution or death.
One may respond that a result of lifestyle boycotts is that you don’t have to work as much and, hence, are not producing the surplus necessary for capital reproduction. This is a problem because one does not take this position from a bird’s eye view. Not working is an impossibility for most people. Only a select minority can survive without working. This is not practical anti-capitalism, it is just temporary survival for a minority, with no threat to the whole problem of capital. Unless it is generalizeable (such as the case of generalized abandonment of work), it does not have the potential to cause structural change. Additionally, the surplus thrown out is nowhere near enough in volume to feed, clothe, or house the entirety of people. Most necessities must be produced, as they don’t materialize in dumpsters. That is why it will not sustain any type of revolt. This reality is often ignored by people in all likelihood because they secretly or unconsciously wish to keep the surplus for themselves, while living off the system and contributing less than average.
If this is the case, not only is alternative consumption misguided, it is actively co-opting any sort of actual resistance into a liberal understanding of the world, and potentially making the most militant of us into passive critics. This backs up our claim that alternative consumption and boycotting are not revolutionary and/or pro-revolutionary. They lead us into passivity with the system because we have found a nice escape. Just as the addict is able to coexist with daily misery, the radical is able to coexist with capital.
This passivity seems to have leeched into our lives where we reproduce the same behaviors and repeat the same seemingly-radical slogans while showing nothing of substance. Our easy survival off surplus production then contributes to our complicit apathy of the world. We forget in our privilege what we are against because we have no material connection to our suffering and exploitation, hence, the lack of need for struggle. Our very boycotting-as-struggle results in a boycott of struggle leading to pathetic notions of waiting for the “end” in whatever manifestation. To take the stance that pushing for anti-capitalist resistance and anti-hierarchical struggle is of no importance while waiting for the revolution and/or Armageddon and/or peak oil and/or global disaster and/or 2012, is a very privileged stance. We who are in prison, who are being deported, who are being shot, starving, suffering from mental illness, domestic violence, rent, bombs, torture, debt, assimilation, gentrification, rape, assault, houselessness, enslavement, etc. cannot simply wait idle for things to get better. To be passive to our oppression is to allow our world and its entire constituency — including ourselves, to be exploited, while apathetically waiting for some hypothetical end which may never come. None of us are free until all of us are free.
In conclusion, the best personal boycott that you can do is to kill yourself, and that won’t change anything.

*For my purposes, I define capitalism as a specific stage in a commodity-producing society characterized by exploitation of those who work for wage-labor by the purchaser of their labor-power (or capitalist) selling the workers product/service for more than their wage. This mode of exploitation is the form of social surplus production/appropriation in capitalism. That surplus produced by the workers self-expands through re-investment in machines, factories, or other financial assets, taking over new industries and countries providing the system with the need for competition and perpetual growth. Everything else falls into place in attempts to maintain this from the existence of the state to contain revolutionary class conflict or brutally expand markets to the non-capitalist world through warfare to financiers simply moving around money while skimming off extra into their pockets. This is the current economic system of united states and the rest of the colonized world. This means I define capitalism as based off of work. It is necessary to add that I do not define capitalism as mere greed or the profit motive as many do. These are merely bad manners in which capitalism expresses itself.
**For this article, we will define important terms as follows in order to avoid arguing semantics and confusing, implicit assumptions.
Freeganism – The practice of buying less for whatever reason as a response against the harmful effects of capitalism through some subversive means such as primarily dumpster diving, minor theft, road kill diets, squatting, charities, alternative “green” transportation (biking, vegetable oil fuel, train hopping)
Dropout culture – Not wanting to participate in the ‘system’ and, consequently, buying less or looking for other means of survival ‘outside’ the ‘system’.
Veganism – Boycotting animal products and by-products for ethical, dietary, environmental, or any other reason.

They have broken through or climbed over the gates networks. They made their way inside the farm and opened the cages, taking away puppies, pregnant and all the little dog beagle who managed to find. It ‘s over a raid in the breeding of dogs to search for the event organized by Occupay Green Hill to ask – again – the closure of the ownership structure of the American Marshall.
The procession started from the parking lot of PalaGeorge, was attended by about 1000 people came from all over North Italy and also from the center. Green Hill 2001 is a company located in Montichiari (Brescia), which breeds beagle dogs to vivisection labs. From this farm, more than 250 dogs each month end in the enclosures, in the hands of vivisection and operating tables.Dogs are born to die and sentenced to suffer.
After the collapse of the other Italian breeder of laboratory beagle dogs, the Morini Stefano di San Polo d’Enza, it is likely that Green Hill has had a greater demand, expanding and becoming one of the main breeding dogs in the European market research animals.
Inside the Green Hill 5 huts are locked up to 2500 adult dogs, plus several litters. A lager made of animal shelters closed, aseptic, without open spaces without natural light or air. Rows and rows of cages with artificial lighting and ventilation system are the environment in which these dogs grow before being loaded onto a truck and shipped to laboratories in hell.
Among the clients of Green Hill, there are university laboratories, pharmaceutical companies and renowned trial centers as the notorious Huntingdon Life Sciences in England, the largest laboratory animal torture in Europe.
Those who derive profit from this pain?
For some years now Green Hill was acquired by an American firm called Marshall Farms Inc. Marshall is a name infamous throughout the world as it is the largest “factory” dog lab exists. The Marshall beagle is actually a standard variety.
Marshall’s dogs are shipped by air all over the world, but with the purchase of Green Hill as the European headquarters and the construction of a huge farm in China, Marshall is pursuing a plan of expansion and market monopoly.
In this must also be seen that the expansion project includes the construction of other shelters in Montichiari, to arrive at Green Hill have 5,000 dogs on the farm, which would become the largest breeding beagle dogs in Europe.
For a price from 450 to 900 € you can buy dogs of all ages. Who is willing to pay more can also buy a pregnant mother.
Green Hill Farm and Marshall also offer its customers on demand surgical treatments, including the cutting or removal of the vocal cords of some glands.
For Green Hill and Marshall Farm animals are just merchandise, objects to breed and sell, without the slightest scruple about pain and suffering – mental and physical – that they will suffer.

They pretend that the heinous evil of their demented acts is either non-existent (the aesthetic trumps the moral) or is inapplicable to them as artists. These “higher types” arrogate to themselves the authority for a “teleological suspension of the ethical” (Kierkegaard); bound by rules but their own, these mavericks must sail “beyond good and evil” (Nietzsche), as do, but instead of blazing toward endless horizons and blue seas they run aground on sandbars of bodies rising out of a cove of blood. “Animal artists” — these pompous posers, these putrid specimens of feculent humanity — are as insecure, weak, power-hungry, misguided, demented, and fraudulent as their bastard brethren weilding scalpels, swords, and guns.
It is time to call this “work” what it is – utter shit and pernicious crap that reeks of arrogance and ignorance. ”Ars Animalis” is the antithesis of anything remotely related to the beautiful rather than the ugly, to the sublime rather than to the sewer.
Apparently, this outrageous stunt below is real; as a sheep’s life might depend on the outcome of a democratic vote, here is one ballot you might want to sign. In my view, the “artists” should be locked into the guillotine and the sheep allowed to ram it until the blade drops on their fat jowels and pernicious heads which wouldl look more appealing in a crimson-colored basket than on their repellent Homo rapiens bodies.
Wait, sorry, that is not democratic, and thus vulgar, barbarian, and uncivilized. So, after voting for the sheep, let’s have a popular assembly and forum on whether the “artists” — Iman Rezai and Rouven Materne — should be allowed to live …. or … (the guillitine is too easy, too weak in impact and dramatic effect) be pushed from the tallest building in the world onto a street-sized canvas, to make the most beautiful painting ever beheld by human eyes.

13.7 Billion Years
Ars Animalis | Die Guillotine
German artists will behead a sheep with a guillotine, unless you say no. You have 21 days left to vote.
[Animals were there at the beginning of art. But how did we get from Chauvet to "Dogs Playing Poker" and beyond? That's one of the questions 13.7 will be asking with this month's series, "Ars Animalis"—art of the animals.] Two students from the Berlin University of the Arts are crowdsourcing the conclusion of a performance piece entitled Die Guillotine (The Guillotine) that features said guillotine and (at least for now) a live sheep.
On their website, the artists, Iman Rezai and Rouven Materne, ask visitors a single question: “Soll dieses Schaf getötet werden?” (“Should this sheep be killed?”)
“The guillotine is the most compact reflection of our society,” says Materne in the German-only video, adding that the intentionally provocative work is a “criticism of current morality.”
As of this writing, the online poll has 147,473 respondents answering yes and 289,0463 voting no. Voters have the next 21 days to decide the fate of the helpless sheep.
Animal cruelty in art and culture is not new. One could point to a wide array of cultural events connected to the torture of animals. Bullfighting comes to mind, or any of a number of culture-specific rituals throughout history involving the death of animals, even human sacrifice.
More recently, at the Trapholt Art Museum in Kolding, Denmark, in 2003, the artist Marco Evaristti put live goldfish in blenders, inviting visitors to press the “on” button to kill the fish.
This theme, in fact, was an early one on 13.7 Billion Years. On March 14, 2008, just a few days after this blog was launched, the post was about the artist Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, who supposedly captured an abandoned street dog, tied him up in an art gallery and left him there to die of hunger and thirst while visitors watched his slow death.
Is this art? Should live animals be used in art? Does Die Guillotine make a point? If so, what is it? Will the fate of the sheep say something about society?

"In 2007, Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, a supposed artist, captured an abandoned dog from the street, tied him with a short cord to the wall in an art gallery and left him there to slowly die of hunger and thirst. For a few days, gallery visitors viewed the agony of the poor animal until finally the dog died of starvation after having experienced so much pain.
And that's not all, now the Honduras Biennale Centro de Arte, after they decided that was art, invited Guillermo Vargas Habacuc to repeat this cruel action for the 2008 Biennale."

Ik wijd deze column aan de persoon die onder de naam Tinkebell door het leven gaat. Haar werkelijk naam is Kantinka Simonse. Ze is een controversiële Nederlandse kunstenares geboren in 1979, die vooral bekend is om het verwerken van dieren in haar werken. In 2005 studeerde zij af aan het design departement van het Sandberg Instituut te Amsterdam.
Haantjes door de shredder Nieuws maakt ze regelmatig met misselijkmakende acties en 'kunst'. U ziet ik plaats het woordje kunst niet op de wijze die bevestigend zou zijn. Ze wil choqueren. Schreeuwen om aandacht. Zoals die keer dat ze 60 haantjes door een shredder wilde gooien. Reden: ze wilde aandacht voor de miljoenen haantjes die jaarlijks worden gedood.
Maar ook schuwt ze niet om een hond te voorzien van wieltjes onder zijn poten en zijn tong te vervangen voor een lapje stof. Zodat je een touwtje om de nek kunt binden en het dier voort kan slepen. Of een hond die je binnenste buiten kan draaien waarna er een eveneens dode kat tevoorschijn komt. 'Kunst' zegt ze zelf.
De Partij voor de Dieren heeft al vragen gesteld in de kamer. Maar ja vragen bieden geen oplossingen. En zoals een Nederlands gebruik is, vragen staat vrij.
Geestesziek gedrag Dit keer haalde ze de landelijke media opnieuw met een jonge pup die je volledig ontleed had en toont op o.a. haar Twitter pagina [foto's zijn inmiddels verwijderd. red.]. Dit alles noemt de dame 'Kunst'. Ik kan het enkel walgelijk en geestesziek gedrag vinden. Hoe lang duurt het voor we een mens voorzien van wieltjes en voort trekken op straat. Om aandacht te vragen voor de misstanden in Afghanistan en Pakistan of India?
En het erge hieraan is nog dat Nederland hiervoor subsidie verstrekt. Geldbedragen om dergelijke 'artiesten' te ondersteunen in hun geesteszieke uitingen. Subsidies van uw en mijn belastinggeld. Dieren gruwelijk verminken en ten toon spreiden ten faveure van.
Enkel hierom kan ik opnieuw tevreden zijn dat de politiek nu een goed gaat kijken naar al die subsidies die verstrekt worden aan zogeheten 'kunst' uitingen. Immers als ik het mocht zeggen dan gaat mijn belastingbijdrage nooit naar dergelijke misselijk makende zieke figuren.
En tot slot een overweging? Waarom subsidie verstrekken aan wie ook maar? Immers als men niet zelfstandig de broek op kan houden heeft men geen bestaansrecht! Toch?

On October 14, 2011, Italian activists occupied the roof of the beagle delivery unit at Green Hill (Marshall BioResources), Europe’s largest farm breeding dogs for vivisection. Currently in the UK, the farm’s sister company – B&K Universal – are attempting to gain permission to construct a facility holding 2,000 beagles for laboratories. On April 28, animal liberationists launched a bold raid which, despite losses noted below, was a clear victory and set a new precendent Italian activism and, along with the amazing Chinese activists who have stopped trucks carryinmg hundreds of dogs to the slaughouse, let us hope the global animal liberation movement is turning a corner away from pacifism — technically, passivist non-resistance and collaborationism — toward militant direct action and animal liberation by any means necessary.

Cure for cancer? Absolutely. :) Over 80 years ago, in 1931, Otto Warburg was awarded the Nobel prize for his discovery that cancer is caused by weakened cell respiration due to lack of oxygen at the cellular level. According to Warburg, damaged cell respiration causes fermentation. Fermentation produces acids like lactic acid and lowers the cell pH levels of in the body to acidic levels. An acidic intra and extracellular environment destroys the ability of DNA and RNA to control cell division and allows cancerous cells to multiply. Dr. Warburg stated " nobody today can say that one does not know what cancer and its prime cause is. On the contrary, there is no disease whose prime cause is better known, so that today ignorance is no longer an excuse." Since cancer cannot survive in an oxygenated, alkaline environment, the cure to cancer is to oxygenate the body, detoxify, and alkalize! That's it. Piece of cake. No cutting or splicing of the human body, no chemo, no terror, no hair loss., no funerals... nada. Though the best cure for cancer is the prevention of it in the first place cancer has been proven to be reversible. So how do we alkalize? By keeping a pure, oxygenated environment wherein little to no fermentation takes place. :) In other words: eat pure, unrefined foods, breath deeply, be stress-free, and do aerobic exercise daily. Anaerobic ("without air/oxygen") exercise causes fermentation in the body. Though it is vital to get the heart pumping and your pulse to raise, be careful about doing too much anaerobic exercise because it stresses the body and creates an acid environment. Doing yoga, breathing deeply, meditating, laughing, singing, and eating foods that are alkalizing/oxygenating (both words are pretty much synonymous) all contribute to an alkalized pH. Even thinking happy, positive thoughts has been shown to alleviate stress, and thereby reduce the amount of cellular fermentation.
Some cool facts: --We gain weight only when the body is toxic and cannot take out the trash. When our bodies are not able to output the same amount of toxins we input they become toxic/acidic. If you are not excreting the same amount of toxins you are are eat, put on your skin, or breathe in the air--you are creating cancerous conditions inside your body. --You sweat daily and have at the VERY LEAST 1 full and complete bowel movement every day. (Your output of toxins should be equal to your input in order to keep your cells oxygenated and your blood at 7.3-7.4 [slightly alkaline.]) --Since most Americans do not output the same amount of matter that they input into their bodies it explains why so many people diet but do not lose weight. The body creates fat cells to store acid and other toxins. For instance, almonds have 79% fat, whereas pork only has 58%. The difference between the two is that pork, as with all meats, is literally dead. When anything is in a state of death or decay it holds an acidifying effect on its environment as it breaks down. Pork in particular is at 3 (or lower) on the pH scale, whereas almonds are at 8. --Acidifying factors include hearing, thinking, or saying harsh/bitter/angry words; being in a traffic jam; feeling jealous or vengeful; over working; over-exercising; eating acidifying foods; inhaling, or being exposed to acidifying chemicals; and using electronics for too long (tvs, radios, computers, phones etc). This basically includes anything that reduces the amount of oxygen being delivered to the body (especially being in a stressful or fearful situation--wherein humans subconsciously begin to breath shallowly). --Alkalizing factors include drinking fresh, pure water; breathing deeply; smiling or laughing; eating dark, leafy greens; eating citrus fruits; being in nature, singing or listening to/playing music, and thinking positive thoughts.

Een vader uit de Amerikaanse staat Connecticut heeft een apparaat gemaakt waarmee hij kan communiceren met zijn overleden dochter.
Gary Galka verscheen in een aflevering van Ghost Adventures om te demonstreren hoe het apparaat de stem van een geest kan opnemen.
Acht jaar geleden verloor Galka zijn dochter Melissa door een auto-ongeval, maar hij zegt haar aanwezigheid sindsdien constant te voelen. Op een dag kwam ze zijn kamer binnen en kon hij haar op de bedrand voelen zitten.
Uitvinding
Die verbinding heeft hem meer dan 30 verschillende producten voor paranormaal onderzoek doen maken. Hij heeft ze allemaal vernoemd naar zijn dochter.
Galka toont hoe één van zijn apparaten een opgenomen stem laat horen: “Hoi papa, ik hou van jou.” Volgens Galka is er niemand die dergelijke apparaten voor zulke mensen maakt.
Het apparaat dat voor de aflevering wordt gebruikt als spraakrecorder is de Mel-8704-SB7-EMF meter. De uitvinding detecteert verschillende elektromagnetische veranderingen en temperatuurverschillen.

Volgens Joe Nickell van het Center for Inquiry moet je oppassen met EMF-metingen. What is more important would be the marketing and very low cost to make it mandatory to have one of these in every home. Better yet, find a way to stop packaging everything in plastic. The vehicle, carrying 505 canines packed into just 156 tiny cages, was stopped on Yunnan Province’s highway from Fumin to Kunming after other drivers spotted its sickening cargo.
A number posted pictures and comments about the load on the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, Weibo, prompting the police to stop the lorry at the next toll gate.
A total of 505 desperate-looking dogs were packed into just 156 tiny cages
It was then directed to a nearby police station where animal lovers, alerted to the news over the internet, began to arrive.
Sadly, due to the terrible conditions a number had already died by the time they were discovered.
One activist said: ‘They were cramped together. A cage could be stuffed with seven to eight. Our hearts were broken in seeing that.’
Volunteers removed the cages from the lorry and spent the night feeding, watering and treating the animals.
Horrifyingly, officers from the local Animal Inspection Department investigating the matter discovered that the transportation of the dogs was legal.
The person who owned them did indeed have a licence and police were unable to act despite suspecting the dogs were headed for dog meat restaurants.
Another activist added: ‘We can’t stop them from eating dogs, as we don’t have an animal welfare law. We just hope the government could stop dog mongers from doing dog business.’
However, a private dog rescue centre then stepped forward and brought all of the dogs off their owner for 60,000 Yuan (£5,900).
The animals will now be cared for until new owners can be found for them.

Last spring, Animal Aid secretly filmed Piotr Andrzej Wasiuta and Kelly Smith torturing pigs at Cheale Meats in Brentwood, Essex. They were seen putting out cigarettes on pigs’ faces, brutally beating them while they were in holding pens, kicking and dragging downed pigs to slaughter by their ears, using tools to beat them in the face and improperly stunning pigs, all while they screamed in pain and fear. At least one had her throat slit while she lay writhing on the floor and was left to die in a puddle of her own blood.
Despite outrage over the incident, and clear evidence of abuse, it took a year of lobbying by Animal Aid, other organizations and the public to get justice after the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) failed to pursue the matter because it did not want to use evidence obtained by a third party. Fortunately, the responsibility to prosecute was transferred to the Crown Prosecution Service, which acted. Wasiuta was sentenced to serve six weeks, while Smith will serve four. Each received slightly reduced sentences for pleading guilty.
“We are satisfied that Wasiuta and Smith have now been brought to justice. Their acts of cruelty were inexcusable and caused untold suffering to animals who were already scared and vulnerable. However, many other slaughterhouse workers, who also caused serious and deliberate suffering to animals, have escaped justice because this government refused to act. We are now calling on the Food Standards Agency to look again at two other cases to see whether charges may be brought under the Animal Welfare Act,” said Kate Fowler, Animal Aid’s Head of Campaigns.
“Our detailed investigations have found illegality in eight of the nine slaughterhouses we visited, despite government-appointed vets being present in all of them. The current regulatory system does not work. It does not catch those who abuse animals. But this case proves that properly placed and independently-monitored cameras do work, and we renew our call for Defra to make CCTV mandatory to catch those who abuse animals and to act as a disincentive to those who might consider it.”

Statement on Animal Equality footage from East Anglian Pig Company – 20.4.12
We have serious concerns at some of what is shown in the footage taken by Animal Equality. An RSPCA farm animal welfare officer from the Society’s inspectorate visited the premises at Didlington as soon as he was made aware of it early on Thursday afternoon, followed by a visit to Little Thorns weaner unit the next day.
The footage was viewed by both the farm animal welfare officer and members of our farm animal science team.
It raised a number of concerns, including poor handling of sows and younger pigs, inappropriate methods of culling and poor implementation of culling practices, using methods not in line with Pig Veterinary Society guidelines.
We believe that some of the sick pigs shown in the footage should also have been culled and there was evidence of poor practice when trying to remove an abscess from a sow.
The RSPCA was also very concerned that a sick sow appeared to have been left in an open area with twine tied around the jaw, but with no evidence that immediate culling was about to take place. This clearly requires further investigation of the circumstances.
We have an urgent meeting planned with the management of the East Anglian Pig Company, at which we will set out our requirements for the changes that need to be implemented with the utmost urgency to address our concerns. This includes the use of appropriate equipment when handling and culling pigs, together with effective training for staff in these crucial aspects of animal welfare, and a plan showing how on-going assessment of adherence to and effectiveness of these measures will be undertaken.
The RSPCA will also be undertaking unannounced regular meetings at the farms and with the company to ensure these are implemented.
We must stress that this footage has only now been made available to us via the media, despite being taken more than four months ago by Animal Equality. This concerns us greatly. It is vital that if anybody or any organisation has concerns about animal welfare that they inform the RSPCA immediately, otherwise they could potentially be allowing continued suffering.

Vets condemn “callous” cruelty as pigs are stabbed with knives, kicked and punched by workers
A FARM worker beats a piglet to death with an iron bar. An injured animal is swung round by its legs, another is kicked in the head.
These shocking images have emerged from a farm supplying meat to some of Britain’s biggest supermarkets.
The undercover film obtained by animal welfare campaigners shows pigs suffering several minutes of agonising seizures and spasms before they finally die.
One worker, who watches as a pig writhes in agony, is caught on camera sneering: “Hurry up and die.”
Pigs are also shown being stabbed with knives, kicked and punched by workers. Injured piglets are seen being tossed around the farm by their fragile limbs. Many die soon after.
Yesterday vets condemned the “callous” cruelty and called for an official investigation.
The horrific footage was passed to the Sunday Mirror by cruelty campaigners Animal Equality.

One of its investigators went undercover on farms in Norfolk run by the East Anglian Pig Co Ltd, which has seven pig breeding sites in the region.
Since 2009 EAP has been supplying Cranswick plc, Britain’s third biggest pork supplier. Its customers include Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, the Co-op, Waitrose, Asda and Jamie Oliver’s supermarket range.
On its website EAP says it adheres to the highest standards in “livestock welfare”.
But Animal Equality’s footage appears to show that two EAP farms may not live up to the standards.
An investigator spent 30 days working at the Little Thorns Weaner Unit in Swaffham, Norfolk, and Didlington the Piggery in nearby Thetford.
Both farms breed pigs until they are slaughtered at six months old or when they weigh 100kg.
If they fall ill or are not fit to enter the food chain, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs guidelines say they should be humanely killed.
But footage from Little Thorn shows a worker killing a pig with an iron bar. Another is seen lifting a sick piglet high above his head before smashing it against a lorry to kill it.
A worker is recorded bragging: “I’ve killed millions of pigs. Not thousands, millions.” At Didlington the scenes are equally disturbing. One worker who finds a piglet struggling to walk smashes it against an iron door. Another randomly stabs at a pig suffering from an abscess.
Vets have called for a probe. Katherine van Ekert, of the Veterinary Institute for Animal Ethics, said: “The workers demonstrated a clear disregard to the welfare of some of the animals.”
Andrew Knight, of Oxford Centre of Animal Ethics, added: “No reasonable person could fail to be appalled and disgusted by the callous treatment.”
The RSPCA sent inspectors to both farms after being passed footage by the Sunday Mirror.
A spokesman said: “It raises a number of concerns. We have an urgent meeting planned with EAP, at which we will set out our requirements for changes that need to be implemented.
“We will also be undertaking unannounced regular meetings at the farms.”
A spokesman for Cranswick said: “We do not tolerate any form of cruelty to any animals in our business. The images highlighted in the video are completely unacceptable.
“These units are owned and operated by EAP, an independent supplier to Cranswick and other meat processors.”
A spokesman for East Anglian Pigs said: “We totally condemn any animal mistreatment and as soon as we were made aware that there may be concerns we contacted the RSPCA.”

Het Vlaamse ILVO heeft in een staal kippenvoer dat verkocht werd als ‘honderd procent natuurlijk’, ggo-soja – de RoundUp Ready soja van Monsanto ontdekt.
Het onderzoek naar het kippenvoer door het ILVO is recent, en kwam er op vraag van Europees Parlementslid Bart Staes (Groen), die samen met Barbara Redant en Hans Van Scharen deze week een boek voorstelt over ggo’s.
Het ILVO, het Instituut voor Landbouw- en Visserijonderzoek van de Vlaamse overheid ontdekte in het staal, een graanmengeling, niet alleen sporen van extra andere producten dan op het etiket was vermeld. Het ILVO trof er ook een ggo-soja aan, de RoundUp Ready soja van Monsanto. Volgens het etiket was de graanmengeling nochtans honderd procent natuurlijk.
Voor Bart Staes is dat het bewijs ‘dat de kans op besmetting in Vlaanderen nog altijd groter is dan men denkt’.
‘Producent Aveve verweerde zich met het argument dat het vast om ‘versleping’ moest gaan’, aldus Staes. ‘Door de opeenvolgende verwerking van grote hoeveelheden voeder moesten resten aan de transportbanden zijn blijven kleven. Die hadden zich vermengd met de volgende lading, beweerde Aveve. Dat zoiets mogelijk is in een afgesloten veevoederbedrijf met een zogezegd uitstekende kwaliteitscontrole, roept grote vragen op. Is het naast elkaar bestaan van verschillende landbouwen modellen dan geen illusie?’
Staes wijst er voorts op dat de gevolgen van besmetting nog steeds niet helemaal zijn blootgelegd. ‘Alleen al het feit dat de allergene werking van genetisch gewijzigd voedsel niet in zijn geheel bekend is, vormt een probleem. De aanwezigheid van bekende allergenen aantonen, is misschien wel een makkie. Maar voor onbekende ligt dat heel anders.’
Staes heeft ook kritiek op de bevoegde agentschappen voor de voedselveiligheid. Zo werden voor kort grote misstanden vastgesteld bij de Europese Voedselveiligheidsautoriteit (European Food Safety Authority, EFSA). Staes: ‘Er zijn aanwijzingen dat wetenschappelijke adviezen van de EFSA in feite copy-pastebewerkingen zijn van documenten van grote ggo-producenten. Het komt ook geregeld voor dat een adviseur van een voedselveiligheidsagentschap overstapt naar een gigant van de agro-industrie. Dat roept vragen op over hun onafhankelijkheid.’

Het besluit tot wijziging van het zgn. Jachtopenings- en Jachtvoorwaardenbesluit dat de Vlaamse Regering op 23 maart 2012 definitief goedkeurde, is vandaag in het Belgisch Staatsblad verschenen. Dit wil echter niet zeggen dat de nieuwe bepalingen vandaag al van kracht worden. Het besluit treedt pas in werking op de tiende dag na de bekendmaking in het Belgisch Staatsblad, dus op 4 mei 2012. De bepalingen van art. 1 met betrekking tot de organisatie van het jachtexamen zullen pas in werking treden op een tijdstip dat door de Vlaamse minister van Leefmilieu en Natuur Joke Schauvliege wordt bepaald. Artikel 2 van het wijzigingsbesluit – waarin nieuwe jachtopeningstijden voor de vos zijn opgenomen – zal pas dertig dagen na bekendmaking in het Belgisch Staatsblad van kracht worden; dus vanaf 24 mei. Vogelbescherming Vlaanderen is helemaal niet gelukkig met de meeste wijzigingen omdat ze niet wetenschappelijk onderbouwd zijn en omdat ze één enkele belangengroep dienen: de jagers. We zetten de meest ingrijpende wijzigingen voor u op een rijtje.
Jacht bij sneeuw (art. 4)
Voortaan mag in Vlaanderen worden gejaagd als er sneeuw ligt, ongeacht de hoeveelheid sneeuw die de grond bedekt. De enige beperking die de jagers wordt opgelegd, is dat de jacht – op de locatie waar het sneeuwt – wordt opgeschort als de sneeuwlaag een dikte van 5 centimeter heeft bereikt. Slechts 24 uur nadat de laatste sneeuw gevallen is, mag de jacht hervat worden, ook al blijft de sneeuw daarna nog dagen/weken liggen. De opschorting geldt echter niet voor de jacht in de bossen en op het wild dat uit deze bossen wordt opgejaagd en geschoten in het open veld, binnen de 50 meter van deze bossen. Ze geldt evenmin voor de jacht op houtduiven, Canadese ganzen, konijnen, grof wild en waterwild op of onmiddellijk langsheen moerassen, waterplassen en waterlopen. Jagers zullen ook dàn hun lusten kunnen botvieren. Lees HIER meer.
Zonsop- en zonsondergang (art. 8 en 10)
Zowel de aanzitjacht als de bersjacht op wilde zwijnen en reeën mag voortaan worden beoefend vanaf één uur vóór de officiële zonsopgang tot één uur na de officiële zonsondergang (voorheen 'slechts' tot een half uur na de officiële zonsondergang). Ook de bijzondere bejaging van grof wild, nl. edelherten, damherten, moeflons en wilde zwijnen wordt verlengd tot één uur na de officiële zonsondergang. Er zal dus nog kunnen geschoten worden als het al echt donker is.
Jacht op vossen (art. 2, 12 en 13)
Tot op heden konden vossen enkel bejaagd worden van 1 oktober tot en met 14 februari. Nu komen daar twee extra jachtperiodes bij, nl. van 15 februari tot en met 14 maart en van 15 mei tot en met 30 september. De bijzondere jacht op vossen mag ook worden beoefend met kastvallen met een maximumvolume van 1.000 dm³ waarin de gevangen dieren zich vrij kunnen bewegen en die in gesloten toestand, in de zijwand ter hoogte van het maaiveld, minstens één vrije opening hebben waarbinnen een cirkel met een diameter van ten minste 6,5 cm kan worden beschreven. De bovenkant van de kastval moet uit ondoorzichtig materiaal bestaan. In de kastvallen – en dit is nieuw – mag plantaardig en niet-levend dierlijk lokaas gebruikt worden als lokmiddel. Vogelbescherming Vlaanderen vindt dit een onverantwoorde maatregel die heel wat bijvangsten zal veroorzaken. Bovendien is hij in strijd met art. 19 van het Jachtdecreet van 24 juli 1991.
Bijzondere bejaging op vossen kan enkel worden uitgeoefend op en binnen een zone van maximaal 500 meter rond percelen waar schade kan worden aangericht onder de volgende specifieke voorwaarden: 1° in gebieden die zijn opgenomen in een plan dat is ingediend zoals bedoeld in artikel 7, tweede lid van het Jachtdecreet: door de jachtrechthouder en zijn genodigden, na uitdrukkelijke toestemming van de grondeigenaar; 2° in gebieden die niet zijn opgenomen in een plan dat is ingediend zoals bedoeld in artikel 7, tweede lid van het Jachtdecreet: door de houder van een geldig jachtverlof, na uitdrukkelijke toestemming van de grondeigenaar en 3° de eigenaar verklaart de preventieve maatregelen genomen te hebben, zoals opgenomen in een bij ministerieel besluit vastgestelde code voor goede praktijk. Duivencarrousels (art. 14)
Nadat het gebruik van de duivencarrousel bij de houtduivenjacht verboden werd, is nu ook het gebruik van dit toestel verboden bij de bestrijding van houtduiven. Vogelbescherming Vlaanderen heeft altijd volgehouden dat het gebruik van duivencarrousels in strijd is met de weidelijke principes m.b.t. de jacht en met o.a. artikel 19 van het Jachtdecreet van 24 juli 1991. Dat artikel verbiedt immers duidelijk het gebruik van netten, strikken, stroppen, lokaas, giftige stoffen en enig ander tuig geschikt om jaagbaar wild te vangen, te doden of om het vangen of doden van dat wild te vergemakkelijken. Ook het vervoer en het onder zich hebben van voormelde tuigen zijn onwettelijk. Een duivencarrousel is volgens Vogelbescherming Vlaanderen wel degelijk 'enig ander tuig' in de zin van hoger genoemd artikel 19 omdat het uitermate geschikt is om het doden van bejaagbaar wild te vergemakkelijken. Vogelbescherming Vlaanderen is erg teleurgesteld in de Vlaamse Regering en zeker in de ministers die aanvankelijk een andere mening hadden over de door minister Joke Schauvliege voorgestelde wijzigingen. De juridische dienst van Vogelbescherming Vlaanderen bekijkt momenteel welke stappen kunnen worden ondernomen tegen sommige bepalingen van het wijzigingsbesluit. De vereniging sluit een procedure bij de Raad van State niet uit. In de juli-editie van het driemaandelijks tijdschrift 'Mens & Vogel' zal het wijzigingsbesluit kritisch tegen het licht worden gehouden. In het buitengebied van Westendorp is afgelopen week een hond overleden na het eten van een vergiftigd ei.
Het dier had met zijn baasje een wandeling gemaakt in de natuur. Toen zij terug bij de auto kwamen, kwam er een penetrante geur uit de bek van de hond. Vlak daarna begon hij verlammingsverschijnselen te vertonen en hij overleed korte tijd later. Op de route die de hond met zijn baasje had gelopen zijn vergiftigde eieren gevonden.
Vorige maand werd in de buurt van Doetinchem een dode steenmarter gevonden. Ook dit dier bleek vergiftigde eieren te hebben gegeten.
De politie neemt de zaak hoog op en is op zoek naar mensen die meer weten over de zaak. Hondenbezitters worden opgeroepen alert te zijn in het gebied rond Doetinchem en Westendorp.

Psi koji su bili zarobljeni u zgradi u Pruščakovoj ulici oslobođeni su, a vlasnica objekta Senija Šarić je privedena, nakon cjelodnevne akcije građana. ŠOKANTNO: Građani Sarajeva u akciji spašavanja zarobljenih pasa/ FOTO/ VIDEO
I danas su građani čekali policiju koju su zvali više puta da interveniše u Pruščakovoj ulici, kako bi spasili pse. Policija je zakazala, nakon čega su Sarajlije odlučile da uzmu stvar u svoje ruke.
Prvi pas koji je 'oslobođen' u Pruščakovoj, bio je vidno istraumiran
Građani Sarajeva su se danas organizovali u centru grada, ispred zgrade u ulici Pruščakova 3 i odlučili da spasu desetine zarobljenih životinja, koje je zatočila izvjesna Senija Knežević Sarić.
Atmosfera koja je vladala pred zgradom, odakle su psi virili i tužnim pogledom tražili pomoć kroz rupe u fasadi, može se nazvati šokantnom.
U zgradi je bila zaključana Senija Sarić sa svojom kćerkom, koja na mnoge pozive građana, da otvori vrata i oslobodi pse, nije reagovala.
Građani su se organizovali i provlavili kroz prva vrata, a nakon što su se vrata otvorila počeo se širiti nesnosan smrad psećih fekalija, njihove krvi...
Iako su građani uspjeli da uđu u jednu prostoriju, Sarićeva je pse zaključala debelim katancima u narednoj prostoriji do koje su Sarajlije jedva prodrle.
Kćerka Senije Sarić je uzvikivala „Šta hoćete, ja sam uzorna studentica“, dok je njena majka vrištala i dozivala „specijalce“. Obje su sa mobitelima u ruci urale na građane, tražeći od njih sudski nalog za ulazak u zradu.
Jezivo je bilo gledati dvije žene, kćerku i majku, našminkane jarko crvenim karminom, kako sjede u prostoriji u kojoj nije moguće disati zbog nesnosnog smrada koji se širio.
Ekipa Bh-news-a se zatekla na licu mjesta, odakle donosimo ekskluzivne fotografije građanske akcije spašavanja napaćenih, gladnih, žednih i zlostavljanih životinja.
Stanari su rekli da nesretne životinje po ulicama sakuplja i u tu prostoriju zatvara Senija Sarić već godinama, ali da policija ne reaguje na brojne pozive građana i udruženja.
I danas su građani čekali policiju koju su zvali više puta. Policija je zakazala, nakon čega su Sarajlije odlučile da uzmu stvar u svoje ruke i spasu pse.
Zavijanje i lavež lutalica ispunio je prljavu prostoriju. Psi su bježali, curile su im sline niz njuške, bili su prestravljeni, gladni, žedni, krvavi, napaćeni...
Prvi pas koji je spašen je crne boje. Prestrašenim pogledom i dezorjentisan zurio je u građane, koji su ga nahranili, milovali i pokušavali smiriti.
Stanari te zgrade, koja se nalazi tačno preko puta Federalnog MUP-a su ogorčeni, jer ovaj problem ghodinama niko ne želi da rješava i pored velike mogućnosti širenja zaraze.
Građani su do sada zlostavljane pse hranili kroz dvije rupe na fasadi, a na molbe da se psi oslobode, a vlasnica procesuira, nije reagovala ni Sanitarna, Komunalna, Veterinarska inspekcija ni policija.
Senija navodno pse, sa svojim mužem vodi na imanje u vogošćansko naselje Hotonj, gdje ih zlostavljaju, pa čak i kolju.
Pretpostavlja se da se u prostoriji nalazilo najmanje 70 pasa svakog trenutka, koji su nakon medijske hajke izmješteni na njeno imanje u Vogošći.
