Een regering die het toe laat en verordent dat dieren leven worden verbrand (om een nette (!) indruk te maken naar de buitenwereld! Waar mensen rechten met voeten worden getreden en kijk hier eens naar !
Maar blijkbaar is het trappen tegen een balletje en het (vals) zingen van een liedje belangrijker dan deze zaken .. Maar zolang niemand hier iets tegen doet en gewoon blind volgt inplaats van de Ukraine te boycotten kan dit geweoon doorgang vinden.

neo-Nazi extremists in Kiev, Ukraine. It's shocking, but the anti-gay movement
doesn't stop there. As early as this week, Ukraine's legislature is
expected to vote in favor of new laws that will make it illegal to be gay or
lesbian in public.
President Viktor Yanukovych is the only person with the power to
stop the law in its tracks, but he has stayed silent as anti-gay sentiment
grows. If he doesn't speak out now, an entire generation will be forced into the
shadows.
Here's our chance: Ukraine has been trying to forge a "special
alliance" with the European Union for years and this week an EU delegation
focused on human rights will visit the country to advance the process.
If we create a massive outcry in the next 3 days across Europe,
President Yanukovych will be forced to finally speak out
against the law or risk endangering his lucrative EU
partnership.

We've seen this before. Just like in St. Petersburg Russia, the bill
Ukrainian politicians are pushing forward makes it a crime to write or speak
anything considered "homosexual propaganda". Things are getting so bad in
Ukraine that the law is actually the product of the Government's own Committee
on Freedom of Speech and Information.
Ukraine is serious about this new alliance with the EU
community and can not afford to ignore calls from Netherlands and its other
neighbours. In fact, the President described an EU partnership as his
#1 priority and his "legacy" for Ukraine. But shouldn't Yanukovych be forced to
speak out against laws that make gay and lesbian Ukranians second class citizens
if he wants to reap the financial benefits of an EU alliance?
Officials from Ukraine are set to meet with the EU's Justice,
Freedom & Security branch this Friday about human rights conditions
for all Ukrainians. Though it's President Yanukovych's top priority to get into
the EU without a hitch, this law is moving silently under their radar and is set
to pass. Now is the moment to bring this issue to light.

Vanmorgen om 6 uur gaf ik de strijd op tegen de kattenbende, ze vonden dat het tijd was om op de staan en zakte de trap af, de katten golfden mee naar beneden. De zon scheen al, dus meteen de deur open naar de tuin , genieten van de vogels en de frisse morgenlucht. Ik zette de pomp aan van de vijver en voerde de vissen toen er iets grijzigs bliksemsnel in de vijver sprong en onder dook . Ik zag de vissen weg vluchten en het kon geen kikker zijn , maar wat dan wel.... De katten hadden het ook gezien natuurlijk en veranderden onmiddelijk in jachtluipaarden . Hun eten was vergeten en ze omsingelden de vijver. Wat het ook voor een dier mocht wezen , die had geen enkele kans. Ik pakte de tuinslang en spoot de katten naar binnen, waar ze letterlijk afdropen. Sloot de deur en barricadeerde het kattenluik , de "jachtluipaarden" renden achter de ramen op en neer... Ik ging rustig bij de vijver zitten en het dier dook op , een waterhoenkuiken.
Die moest ik vangen , anders zouden de katten het wel doen en dat zou zijn dood zijn. Ik vroeg me af hoe het dier hier gekomen was. In de bebouwde kom, nergens water , mijn tuin helemaal afgesloten , ook de boven kant met netten, zodat mijn papegaai los in de tuin kan en de katten er niet uit.
Maar hoe ga ik die kleine snelle renner en zwemmer vangen...? Mijn net was ik met mijn laatste veldexpeditie in het moeras kwijtgeraakt. Vanaf 7 tot half 12 heeft me dat gekost, ik weet niet wie meer moe was , roadrunner of ik Maar dat belette hem niet om alles in de verdediging te gooien toen ik hem pakte. Schreeuwen, slaan, bijten en trappen ... Zo een klein dapper klein ren kippie :)
Hem tijdelijk in de douche opgesloten met bordje geweekt bord en kleine spieringvisjes, die hij met smaak op at. De vogelbescherming gebeld , mocht hem brengen en in een hok op sluiten ...pff arm dier en dat met die warmte , ik vond dat geen optie en in mijn opinie was hij mans genoeg om het te redden in de natuur. Voor de zekerheid nog even een vriend gebeld die 25 jaar een vogelopvang heeft gehad en veel ervaring heeft. Die zei ook dat ik me geen zorgen hoefde te maken , hij zou dat overleven. De kleine druktemaker in een box gezet en naar het moeras gereden. Daar zitten meer waterhoentjes, is natuurgebied en de meest ideale plek voor de kleine avonturier.
Door de rietkragen gekropen en hem aan de waterkant los gelaten , waar hij gelijk het water in dook en onder water verdween. Dag ventje het ga je goed ! :)
De massacre gaat door elke dag opnieuw , ik zie ze elke dag voorbij trekken en proberen ze te redden met door te plaatsen op allerlei netwerksite, maar zo weinig worden er gered , zucht....
Zal je er morgen nog zijn , klein engeltje???...

Maar tot dusver heeft de Oekraïense overheid weinig gedaan om de massa uitroeiing te stoppen. We kunnen deze slachtpartij niet door laten gaan.
Onderneem alstublieft nu actie. Bekijk de video en steun PETA's inspanningen om dierenmishandeling in Oekraïne en overal in de wereld te stoppen. Hartelijk dank.

I would like to thank everyone around the world for the incredible support over the last week that I spent in a Frankfurt prison. It is greatly appreciated. The people of Sea Shepherd Germany have been wonderful and I have happy to see so much support from supporters in Costa Rica and around the world also.
We have an excellent worldwide legal team working hard to resolve this legal issue. I am confident that this team will do the very best they can on every front involved with this case. Although I have no reason to believe that the Costa Rican legal system would not give me a fair trial, my concern is not for the judicial system, but for the reality that the shark fin mafia of Costa Rica has a price on my head and a Costa Rican prison would provide an excellent opportunity for someone to exercise this lethal contract against me. We have cost the shark finners a great deal of money over the last two decades and they want their revenge. I would need absolute assurance that the Costa Rican authorities would not place me in the position to jeopardize my safety when I return to Costa Rica to prove my innocence in court. There are two very important points that I would like to make. The first is that although my arrest and detention have been a focus of this incredible support the fact is that this is not about me. It is about our oceans and the ever escalating threat of diminishment of the diversity of life in our seas. It is about the sharks, the whales, the seals, the sea turtles and the fish. This is an opportunity to shine an international spotlight on what is happening to the sharks and especially to illustrate that there are elements in Costa Rica responsible for a great deal of the illegal trafficking in shark fins.
Secondly I want to make it very clear that whatever happens to me will not affect our campaigns. I have delegated the responsibility of commanding our ships to my very capable captains and they will be defending sharks this summer in the South Pacific and the whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary. The Cove Guardians will return to Taiji, Japan in September to defend the dolphins. Fortunately Sea Shepherd is now much bigger than myself and even more fortunately is the reality that we now have a legion of passionate, dedicated, courageous and resourceful volunteers around the world. If I am prevented from serving on the front lines upon the high seas I will serve as a symbol of resistance to the destruction of our oceans from inside a prison cell.
Power and greed do not surrender easily and history has shown that sometimes prison is an ordeal that must be endured in order to shake the foundations of powerful special interests. There is no shame in incarceration as Mandela, Gandhi, Thoreau, Aung San Suu Kyi, and so many others have demonstrated. Power does not relinquish easy and the powers opposing our efforts are immense like the shark finning, bluefin tuna fishing, whaling and dolphin killing industries and the governments that support this trade in death like Japan, Costa Rica, Norway, Iceland, Malta, Canada etc. Sometimes I'm surprised we have made any progress at all but progress we have made indeed, and we will continue to win victories for our clients in the sea, no matter what the obstacles thrown in our path because Sea Shepherd is not just me, it is now an international movement and our flag is becoming widely known and more and more respected and most importantly our permanent and most proud legacy are the thousands of whales, tens of thousands of sharks, hundreds of thousands of seals and millions of fish that swim free in the sea now, that would otherwise have been cruelly slain if not for our intervention. In the end it is about them and not about us.

In April 2012, PETA released a 15-month undercover investigation—spanning five states—into some of the largest pigeon-racing operations in the U.S. PETA documented massive casualties of birds during races and training, discovered rampant killing of unwanted birds and abusive training and racing methods and exposed a multimillion-dollar illegal gambling industry.
PETA's investigators found that in many races, which can be as long as 600 miles, more than 60 percent of the birds get lost or die as a result of extreme weather, predators, electrical lines, hunters, or exhaustion. Races that are particularly fatal—where only a minuscule percentage of birds makes it home—are referred to as "smash races." In one such race in xml:namespace prefix = st1 />Queens, New York, only four out of 213 birds returned. At the 2011 American Racing Pigeon Union Convention, only 827 out of the original 2,294 birds survived training flights, only 487 of whom completed the 325-mile race by nightfall.
Birds who aren't considered fast enough and aren't wanted for breeding are typically "culled"— killed by suffocation, drowning, neck-breaking, gassing, or decapitation. PETA documented one world-renowned racer as he admitted that he generally has to buy 12 pigeons for breeding before he finds one he can use in his loft and just kills the others and their offspring. Another racer told investigators that when starting out in pigeon racing, "The first thing you have to learn—how to kill pigeons."
Like cockfighting and dogfighting, pigeon racing is all about gambling. PETA penetrated racing organizations in which a quarter of a million dollars is bet on a single race and discovered that pigeon racing generates an estimated $15 million a year in illegal gambling proceeds and involves felony violations of federal gambling, racketeering, and tax-evasion laws. The high stakes also lead some flyers to cheat: Investigators found that several racers' birds tested positive for illegal performance-enhancing drugs, and one racer admitted to shooting federally protected raptors.

This is the Gadhimai Festival, the biggest of Nepal’s many blood rituals, to honor the Hindu goddess of power. Apparently Gadhimai requires deliberate torture before she’ll grant the wishes of her human disciples. The two-day homage occurs in the village of Bariyapur in the Bara District. In 2009, five million people were present.
Blood rituals occur routinely in Nepal. Animals are skinned and burned alive, smashed and shredded. The Gadhimai repeats every 5 years, next up in 2014. Because the charges brought against Captain Paul Watson are false Here is the story: Paul Watson, the famous founder and captain of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, was arrested in Frankfurt, Germany, over the weekend. The charges against him are related to an incident in Costa Rica from 2002, when Sea Shepherd protested shark finning. The outstanding warrant for his arrest was also for attempted murder, which Sea Shepherd is calling a “fallacy.”The 2002 Sea Shepherd protest in question was against a Costa Rican ship called the Vardero, which was illegally hunting for shark fins. A statement on Sea Shepherd’s website reads “On order of the Guatemalan authorities, Sea Shepherd instructed the crew of the Varadero to cease their shark finning activities and head back to port to be prosecuted. While escorting the Varadero back to port, the tables were turned and a Guatemalan gunboat was dispatched to intercept the Sea Shepherd crew.” The Vardero crew are claiming that Sea Shepherd tried to kill them, but Sea Shepherd maintains that they steered clear of the hostile boat and headed for Costa Rica.
Captain Watson is now awaiting extradition to Costa Rica. Sea Shepherd, the subject of the Animal Planet reality show Whale Wars, is hoping that the charges against him will be dropped. “While in jail, Captain Watson is being assisted by the European Parliament Vice President Daniel Cohn Bendit and the European deputy Jose Bove. Our hope is that these two honorable gentlemen can set Captain Watson free before this nonsense goes any further.” Captain Paul is now out on bail. .

FRANKFURT, Germany -- The founder of the environmental activist group Sea Shepherd has left a German jail after a court ordered him freed on bail pending a decision on whether he will be extradited to Costa Rica.
Paul Watson told reporters he was relieved to be free, a week after his detention at Frankfurt Airport on a Costa Rican warrant. He said Monday: "I didn't expect something that happened 10 years ago to sneak up on me in Germany."
Costa Rica claims that Watson, a 61-year-old Canadian, endangered a fishing boat and its crew in 2002. Sea Shepherd says Watson was filming a documentary in 2002 when his team encountered an illegal shark-finning operation in Guatemalan waters.
Last Friday, a Frankfurt court ruled that Watson could be freed on (EURO)250,000 ($320,000) bail.

Zo zijn er veel katten van honger en dorst omgekomen de afgelopen winter in het centrum van Krabbendijke! Onlangs kreeg boer Jan een beroerte en nu is hij opgenomen in het verzorgingstehuis. Zijn katjes zijn er niet rouwig om en wij zoeken met spoed een nieuw goed huis voor de thuisloze katjes die de klomp van boer Jan en de winter overleefd hebben. We have cost the shark finners a great deal of money over the last two decades and they want their revenge. I would need absolute assurance that the Costa Rican authorities would not place me in the position to jeopardize my safety when I return to Costa Rica to prove my innocence in court.

Secondly I want to make it very clear that whatever happens to me will not affect our campaigns. I have delegated the responsibility of commanding our ships to my very capable captains and they will be defending sharks this summer in the South Pacific and the whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary. The Cove Guardians will return to Taiji, Japan in September to defend the dolphins.
Fortunately Sea Shepherd is now much bigger than myself and even more fortunately is the reality that we now have a legion of passionate, dedicated, courageous and resourceful volunteers around the world. If I am prevented from serving on the front lines upon the high seas I will serve as a symbol of resistance to the destruction of our oceans from inside a prison cell.
Power and greed do not surrender easily and history has shown that sometimes prison is an ordeal that must be endured in order to shake the foundations of powerful special interests. There is no shame in incarceration as Mandela, Gandhi, Thoreau, Aung San Suu Kyi, and so many others have demonstrated.
Power does not relinquish easy and the powers opposing our efforts are immense like the shark finning, bluefin tuna fishing, whaling and dolphin killing industries and the governments that support this trade in death like Japan, Costa Rica, Norway, Iceland, Malta, Canada etc. Sometimes I’m surprised we have made any progress at all but progress we have made indeed, and we will continue to win victories for our clients in the sea, no matter what the obstacles thrown in our path because Sea Shepherd is not just me, it is now an international movement and our flag is becoming widely known and more and more respected and most importantly our permanent and most proud legacy are the thousands of whales, tens of thousands of sharks, hundreds of thousands of seals and millions of fish that swim free in the sea now, that would otherwise have been cruelly slain if not for our intervention.

ARNHEM/ VELP – Het dierenasiel voor Arnhem en omstreken in Velp stapt naar de rechter om ruim 7.100 euro te eisen van een Achterhoeker. De man is ex-eigenaar van negen ernstig verwaarloosde hondjes die door het asiel zijn verzorgd. De dieren werden eind februari door een voorbijgangster in een kooi op straat gevonden.
De dieren bleken vermagerd, maar met dikke buiken van de wormen, doorweekt en besmeurd met ontlasting.
Later meldde de Achterhoeker zich als eigenaar. Hij vertelde dat de hondjes bij hem thuis waren gestolen. Het asiel twijfelt aan zijn relaas.

Circusbeer Benya in nood!!Vier Voeters redt de vierde beer uit gruwelijke omstandigheden KOZYATYN (Oekraïne), 21 mei 2012
Een reddingsteam van de internationale dierenwelzijnsorganisatie Vier Voeters heeft in de stad Kozyatyn de bruine beer Benya ( zie foto),uit gruwelijke omstandigheden gered. Benya is ondergebracht in het nieuwe beren rehabilitatiecentrum Synevyr, in de bossen van de Karpaten. Benya zal in Synevyr onder de beste omstandigheden met andere geredde beren samenleven.
De tien jaar oude bruine beer Benya werd op te jonge leeftijd van zijn moeder gescheiden, waarna hij dansjes en kunstjes moest vertonen in een Oekraïens rondtrekkend circus. Zijn leven buiten de schijnwerpers was alles behalve prestigieus. Benya leefde in een kleine kooi met een oppervlakte van slechts 2,5 vierkante meter en een hoogte van 1,5 meter, waardoor hij niet in staat was op te staan en rond te lopen. Kortom, een leven vol mishandeling.
Dankzij een gezamenlijke reddingsactie van het Vier Voeters team en medewerkers van het beren rehabilitatiecentrum Synevyr, kon Benya worden gered. Tijdens een 13 uur durende reis in de berenambulance werd de beer overgebracht naar het door de Oekraïense regering opgerichte rehabilitatiecentrum. Benya doorstond de reis goed en arriveerde veilig bij zijn nieuwe thuis. De komende dagen zal Benya in een kooi naast vijf andere beren verblijven, waar hij medisch wordt behandeld en goed word gevoerd.
“Het moment dat Benya arriveerde was erg emotioneel voor ons allemaal”, zegt Dr. Amir Khalil, projectleider bij Vier Voeters. “Toen hij de kooi binnenkwam, maakte hij direct contact met Ira, een andere geredde beer, en likte over haar snuit”. ( zie foto).
Vanuit deze kooi zal hij snel toegang krijgen tot een quarantaine gebied van 350 vierkante meter. Daar kan hij spelen met andere beren, klimmen, graven en zwemmen. Vier Voeters bouwt momenteel een gebied van 12 hectare aan grote verblijven in het beren rehabilitatiecentrum. Benya en de andere beren kunnen spoedig gaan genieten in deze natuurlijke omgeving. Volgens Vier Voeters zijn er nog altijd ongeveer 100 BEREN !!!!die in zeer slechte omstandigheden worden gehouden in Oekraïne.
Ze leven in kleine kooien naast restaurants, hotels, tankstations en cafés. De meeste van deze beren moeten kunstjes vertonen en alcohol drinken om toeristen te vermaken. Sinds augustus 2011 bestaat er een verbod op het privé houden van beren in de Oekraïne. “Samen met de Oekraïense autoriteiten zullen we doorgaan in onze strijd tegen de wrede behandeling van beren”, vertelt Dr. Khalil. In februari 2012 ondertekenden Vier Voeters en het Oekraïense Ministerie van ecologie en natuurlijke hulpbronnen een overeenkomst voor de redding en zorg van de privé gehouden bruine beren. Benya is de vierde beer die werd gered door Vier Voeters. De komende maanden zal Vier Voeters ook andere mishandelde beren redden en overbrengen naar het rehabilitatiecentrum. The best known European tourist countries are also those with the most important animal cruelty.... Fijne vakantie !
If you plan to visit a country such as Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Albania or Turkey, be warned! The images which you may be facing are not easy to digest:
•stray dogs and cats are wandering the streets, hungry, thirsty, often sick or injured whilst alive, or lying there dead, with foam at their mouth because they have been poisoned, or in a pool of blood because beaten to death, or run over by a car and simply left to die. •at the countryside, you will see chained dogs or the "famous" barrel dogs if you visit Greece. Forced to live chained up on one meter chain or shorter, with old rusty barrels for dog house, or even no barrels or any protection at all. They are mostly living down deserted roads and tracks and are rarely seeing anyone. Their shelters do not give any protections to bad weather and they are like ovens during the summer months providing no relief from the scorching sun. To add to their misery they may have some dirty water or no water or food at all. They are mostly young dogs craving human companionship, most of them die before they are one year old.
•to see a dog hanging in a tree, is also not an exception. •the Spanish hunting dogs are seen as a 'tool' and not as a living, breathing and sentient being. They can be treated as badly as it pleases and it is perfectly legal to simply discard them after the hunting season or to let them starve because of their stupid belief that a starving dog hunts better. Many are killed after a bad hunting game or when no longer needed.
•horses and donkeys have no better life either. They are still used as a cheap transportation. The animals have to work hard, often at above their own capacity. Malnutrition and lack of care make these animals live a tormented life. Horses and donkeys are often beaten even though the animal is lying down and not able to get up in order to make them do a last effort.
•Spain, Portugal and France make use of their right to celebrate their traditions in order to torture animals to death during bullfights or other outdated blood fiestas such as 'Toro de la Vega', 'Toro Jubilo', 'A Rapa das Bestas', to mention only a few.
During the tourist season many stray animals survive thanks to the tourists, who feel sad at their plight, and feed them scraps. Most tavernas have throngs of stray cats and dogs begging for their existence, but when the tourists leave there is no food supply, and so they die of starvation and disease.
There is no sterilization programme, which would improve the situation greatly, but there is no interest in the welfare of animals, either from the authorities, nor from the public.
This results in a constant flow of kittens and puppies to replace the dying adult population, and so the sad cycle starts again, year in, year out.
The lack of vaccinations means that parvovirus and cat flu are very common, and parasite born diseases such as Leishmanisis and Ehrlrichia are prevalent - all being potentially lethal illnesses, especially in sick and starving animals.
Animals suffering with any of these conditions will rarely be offered any veterinary care, as few people bother to help them. The results are truly shocking.
None of the European tourist countries have made any serious efforts to curb the stray animal population by implementing neutering campaigns, or by informing their citizens about the importance to spay and neuter their animals and/or not to let them roam freely and mate as they wish.
Instead, they try year of after year, before the tourist season begins, to clean the streets from unwanted animals. Poisoning, although illegal, is common practice.
Dog catchers catch the animals and lock them away in public shelters that are real death camps for the animals. Out of the public eye, the animals are let to starve. Many die of the consequences of injuries and diseases left without veterinary care.
Many animals die of thirst during the hot summers, thousands freeze to death in the cold winters.
It is your decision whether you continue to support these countries that do not care about animals, year after year with your tourist money or not.
Have your say during the 'Open Consultation on the European Tourism Label for Quality Systems Initiative' initiated by the European Commission
You, as an EU-citizen or an organization can now say what you think about the way animals are being treated in the European tourist countries by participating in the 'Open Consultation'.
Although this questionnaire has not been elaborated to ask people's opinion about animal welfare in the European tourist countries, we can make use of point 5. (ANY OTHER REMARKS) to let the European Commission (and the tourist countries) know, that bullfights, sadistic blood fiestas and other outdated traditions as well as the shameful treatment of stray animals and the lack of responsibility, disturbs us enough that we will not visit these countries as a tourist until we will notice a serious improvement to the situation.
Countries that largely depend on tourism, should finally take responsibility and neuter their stray animals, force their citizens to spay and neuter their companion animals and create laws to prevent that unwanted animals are being abandoned and reproduce again and again, adding new animals to this never ending cycle of misery and despair. They should start to tackle the cause of the problem instead of fighting only the effect!

This fragmentation is a possible obstacle to achieving a EU level playing field for providing high-quality tourism service throughout Europe, which is likely to cause detriment to the competitiveness of the European tourism sector.
The objective of this public consultation is to obtain the views of a wide circle of public and private stakeholders and individuals on a possible EU action in this field.
As one of the possible actions, the Commission foresees the proposal for a European Tourism Label for Quality Systems, with a potential to bring greater transparency and consistency into quality evaluation at EU level.
The European label would recognise those existing and future tourism quality systems that comply with the common European criteria.
The results of this consultation will help us assess the impacts of the proposed initiative.
