Het is een lief, aanhankelijk hondje, dat zich op een week snel aan ons heeft aangepast. Ze is heel vinnig en nieuwsgierig, een heel ander hondje dan Noleke.

At about 6:56 pm I was outside and noticed a large redish ball of light that appeared to be motionless in the sky at about 95 degrees magnetic from my location. It was very bright, and at first I thought it was a parachute flare like those used by the army. The USAF and UFOs are trusted allies as the former is testing the acquired alien UFO technology at the Nellis Air Force base, according to renowned UFO hunter Steve Barone. In a YouTube video uploaded by Steve, a UFO is seen above the restricted test and training area of the Nellis Air Force facility.
UFO hunter Steve Barone has been keeping a close monitoring of suspected alien activities around the Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas. He claimed that there had been substantial alien activities in the area. He used night vision technology camera to capture the video.
Steve said that it had not been processed and completely original. He explained that he did not do anything to enhance or alter it, so the video shows exactly what the night vision camera had captured.
The United States Air Force (USAF) and UFOs have combined their forces, and that the USAF has acquired new technologies for military purposes, Steve Barone said. It has also been reported in different technology news site that USAF received UFO alien technology, which then tested in the controversial Area 51 and the Nellis Air Force.
Veteran UFO hunters further confirmed reports of a possible alliance between USAF and extraterrestrials. They said that the video shows three UFOs over the USAF Nellis Air Force base. They further claimed that it shows the USAF performing a test of alien UFO technology.
Some UFO researchers believe the test was conducted in that area so no one can travel over to witness the activity. They also speculated that the high-security area is designed for alien UFO technology tests.
Het dikke pak ijs dat Groenland nu bedekt, is niet zo heel lang geleden voor het grootste deel tot op het onderliggende gesteente gesmolten.
Tot die conclusie komen Amerikaanse onderzoekers in het blad Nature. Het zou betekenen dat de Groenlandse ijskap veel kwetsbaarder is dan nu wordt aangenomen.
Bedrock Onder de dikke Groenlandse ijskap bevindt zich gesteente (bedrock). Twee decennia geleden zijn onderzoekers erin geslaagd om een stukje van dit gesteente boven te halen voor onderzoek. Ze moesten daarvoor dwars door iets meer dan 3 kilometer ijs en sediment boren. In het verleden zijn de ijskernen die het onderzoek opleverde al uitgebreid geanalyseerd. Maar naar het bovengehaalde gesteente is nog vrij weinig onderzoek gedaan: pas de laatste jaren zijn de technologieën ontwikkeld die wetenschappers nodig hebben om de samenstelling van het gesteente in detail vast te kunnen stellen. Gewapend met die nieuwe technieken hebben onderzoekers het gesteente nu grondig geanalyseerd. En ze komen tot een schokkende conclusie.
Isotopen In het gesteente vonden de onderzoekers sporen van beryllium-10 en aluminium-26. Deze isotopen worden geproduceerd door kleine deeltjes die afkomstig zijn uit de ruimte en de aarde continu bombarderen. De snelheid waarmee deze isotopen vervallen, is bekend. Daarnaast weten we dat deze isotopen niet kunnen ontstaan als het gesteente met ijs bedekt is. De mate waarin deze isotopen in het gesteente aanwezig zijn, kan dan ook verraden hoelang deze gesteenten ‘naakt’, oftewel niet met ijs bedekt waren.
Links zie je Groenland dat voor 100 procent bedekt is met ijs. De witte stip geeft de plek aan waar gesteente van onder het ijs is gehaald. Dit gesteente suggereert dat het langdurig onbedekt is geweest. Modellen laten zien dat de plek waar het gesteente vandaan komt, één van plekken is waar het ijs – wanneer de Groenlandse ijskap volledig zou smelten – als laatste zou verdwijnen. Rechts zie je dan ook hoe Groenland er in het geologisch gezien recente verleden zeker 280.000 jaar bij heeft gelegen: vrijwel volledig ‘naakt’. Afbeelding: Schaefer et al., Nature, 2016).
Naakt Volgens de onderzoekers wijzen de isotopen erop dat het oppervlak in de afgelopen 1,4 miljoen jaar zeker 280.000 jaar niet bedekt was met ijs. Mogelijk lag het gesteente 280.000 jaar op rij bloot. Aan die periode zou zo’n 1,1 miljoen jaar een einde zijn gekomen. Een andere – meer waarschijnlijke – mogelijkheid is dat het ijs niet 280.000 jaar op rij weg was, maar meerdere keren gedurende kortere periodes verdween. En dat zou dan ook recenter dan 1,1 miljoen jaar geleden nog zijn voorgekomen. Het smelten van de Groenlandse ijskap zou in beide scenario’s het resultaat zijn geweest van natuurlijke klimaatverandering. “Helaas suggereert het dat de Groenlandse ijskap heel onstabiel is,” stelt onderzoeker Joerg Schaefer. “Als we deze in perioden van natuurlijke klimaatverandering zijn kwijtgeraakt, kunnen we deze zomaar weer kwijtraken.”
De Groenlandse ijskap bestaat uit meer dan 2,8 miljoen kubieke kilometer ijs. Als de ijskap volledig smelt, zou dat kunnen resulteren in een zeespiegelstijging van zo’n zeven meter. Onderzoek wijst uit dat de Groenlandse ijskap te lijden heeft onder de antropogene (door mensen veroorzaakte) klimaatverandering: sinds de jaren negentig van de vorige eeuw smelt de Groenlandse ijskap twee keer zo hard. Hoe de toekomst van de ijskap eruit ziet, is onduidelijk en lijkt sterk afhankelijk van de hoeveelheid CO2 die we de komende jaren de atmosfeer in pompen. Dit nieuwe onderzoek beweert zeker niet dat de ijskap gedoemd is om volledig te smelten, “De boodschap is: als we de aarde blijven opwarmen zoals we nu doen, dan staat ons een enorme zeespiegelstijging te wachten,” aldus onderzoeker Richard Alley. Paleoklimatoloog Jeff Severinghaus – hij was niet bij het onderzoek betrokken – onderschrijft dat. “We kunnen de laagste schattingen van de toekomstige zeespiegelstijging nu verwerpen, omdat de modellen die hieraan ten grondslag liggen aannemen dat Groenland de laatste 1 miljoen jaar continu met ijs bedekt is geweest.”

Misschien leven ze wel hoog in de wolken die bijvoorbeeld bruine dwergen – ook wel mislukte sterren genoemd – omringen.
Wanneer we zoeken naar buitenaards leven dan richten we vaak onze pijlen op planeten die vloeibaar water op hun oppervlak kunnen herbergen en dus een fijne temperatuur hebben. Maar wie zegt dat aliens op het oppervlak van een planeet wonen? Misschien zweven ze wel gewoon rond, in de atmosfeer van een bruine dwerg bijvoorbeeld.
Atmosfeer van de aarde Het lijkt misschien wat vergezocht, maar dat is het eigenlijk helemaal niet. Kijk maar eens naar de atmosfeer van de aarde. Uit eerder onderzoek is gebleken dat deze heel wat microben bevat en er zijn zelfs aanwijzingen dat de stofwisseling van sommige van deze organismen zelfs hoog in de lucht gewoon doorgaat. Misschien moeten we onze blik dan ook verruimen en niet langer enkel op het oppervlak van planeten op zoek gaan naar buitenaards leven.
Bruine dwerg Dat stellen onderzoekers in een nieuw paper. En ze werken dat idee direct even uit. En wel aan de hand van een superkoude bruine dwerg die eenzaam en alleen door de ruimte zweeft: WISE J085510.83 − 071442.5 (kortweg W0855-0714). Waarom deze bruine dwerg en niet een planeet die rond een ster draait? Omdat de atmosfeer van W0855-0714 – en dus ook eventuele microben in die atmosfeer – niet beïnvloed worden door de complicerende effecten die een ster (met zijn straling en deeltjes) op een atmosfeer kan hebben.
Temperatuur en druk Op het oppervlak van de bruine dwerg is het bijzonder koud. Maar hoger in de atmosfeer vinden we waarschijnlijk een temperatuur en druk die vergelijkbaar is met de temperatuur en druk op het oppervlak van de aarde, zo schrijven de onderzoekers. En recent onderzoek suggereert bovendien dat er hoog in de atmosfeer van deze bruine dwerg water te vinden is. Het kan er dan ook best fijn zijn voor microben.
VERANDERING
Mocht er leven zijn in de atmosfeer van bruine dwergen dan evolueert het waarschijnlijk ook. Bruine dwergen worden namelijk koeler wanneer ze ouder worden en daardoor daalt de atmosferische leefbare zone van een bruine dwerg naarmate deze ouder wordt. En naarmate die leefbare zone daalt, neemt ook de luchtdruk toe. “Waardoor de aarde van de organismen zoals wij die beschrijven ongetwijfeld zal veranderen.”
Ontstaan van leven Maar hoe komen die microben dan in die atmosfeer terecht? Wellicht kan er in die atmosfeer leven ontstaan, zo stellen de onderzoekers. Voor zover we weten, herbergt de atmosfeer van bruine dwergen de meeste elementen die nodig zijn voor leven (denk bijvoorbeeld aan koolstof, waterstof, stikstof en zuurstof). En eerder onderzoek naar W0855-0714 suggereert dat hoog in de atmosfeer stofdeeltjes te vinden zijn. Mogelijk vinden op die stofdeeltjes chemische reacties plaats waaruit prebiotische moleculen ontstaan. Of wellicht worden die moleculen – de voorlopers van leven – in de atmosfeer van de bruine dwerg afgeleverd door stofdeeltjes die vanuit het interstellaire medium in de atmosfeer van de bruine dwerg worden afgezet.
Venus Als we er rekening mee houden dat ook in de atmosfeer van hemellichamen wellicht leven mogelijk is, neemt het aantal potentieel leefbare plaatsen in het universum enorm toe. En die potentieel leefbare plaatsen vinden we dan heus niet alleen rond bruine dwergen. Maar wellicht ook rond planeten die momenteel als onleefbaar worden bestempeld. Een mooi voorbeeld daarvan is Venus. Op het oppervlak is het gloeiend heet en kan vloeibaar water niet standhouden. Daarom wordt de planeet als onleefbaar beschouwd. Maar op zo’n 55 kilometer hoogte in de atmosfeer is de temperatuur vergelijkbaar met de temperatuur op het oppervlak van de aarde en is ook vloeibaar water beschikbaar. De onderzoekers erkennen dat de atmosfeer van Venus niet helemaal vergelijkbaar is met die van een bruine dwerg, omdat Venus wel beïnvloed wordt door de zon. Maar ondanks dat de atmosfeer van Venus een heel andere dynamiek heeft dan die van W0544-0714 behoort leven hoog in de atmosfeer van Venus wellicht tot de mogelijkheden.
Of de onderzoekers het bij het juiste eind hebben, is op dit moment eigenlijk niet te achterhalen. Daarvoor zullen we in de toekomst een beroep moeten doen op krachtige telescopen die in staat zijn om bijvoorbeeld de gassen die organismen hoog in de atmosfeer van andere hemellichamen produceren, te detecteren.
The phrase “quasicrystal from outer space” sounds like the title to a science fiction thriller with a New Age twist. Buta study published Thursdayin Scientific Reportsannounced that a bonafide quasicrystal has indeed been discovered within the grainy remains of a meteorite found in the Khatyrka region of the Russian far east, five years ago. The paper marks the first time that a type of quasicrystal has been identified in nature before it was created artificially in a lab.
You might be asking: That’s neat, but what the heck is a quasicrystal? An understandable question. First identified by material scientist Dan Shechtman in 1982—who won the 2011 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his discovery—quasicrystals are crystal-like arrangements of atoms that defy expectations of crystalline behavior with their “forbidden” rotational symmetries.
Regular crystal structures are periodically arranged in neatly fitted shapes like cubes (four-fold symmetry) or triangles (three-fold symmetry), but quasicrystals are arranged in non-periodic patterns such as pentagonal, five-fold symmetries.

Patricia Thiel, a chemistry and materials science expert based at Iowa State University, used this helpful analogy of tiling a floor to explain the unique properties of quasicrystals in this NPR article: “If you want to cover your bathroom floor, your tiles can be rectangles or triangles or squares or hexagons,” she said. “Any other simple shape won’t work, because it will leave a gap. In a quasicrystal, imagine atoms are at the points of the objects you’re using. What Danny [Shechtman] discovered is that pentagonal symmetry works.”
It should be impossible, but material science is full of surprises. While quasicrystals are most often studied via artificial synthesis in labs, the Khatyrka meteorite demonstrates that they can form naturally. Two previous quasicrystal forms have already been identified in the fragments of this outer space visitor, but both of those arrangements had been synthesized prior to their discovery in nature. However, the latest version features icosahedral symmetry, an exotic pattern featuring 60 points of rotational symmetry, somewhat like that of a soccer ball.

Paul Steinhardt, who serves as the Albert Einstein professor in science at Princeton University, was one of the authors of the new research. When I asked him why this one meteorite, which only survives as a few stray grains, seems to have such an abundance of quasicrystals, he told me there’s no simple answer.
“There are perhaps one or two other groups [of researchers] at most searching,” Steinhardt said. “Since we found an example, we have been focusing on understanding how this particular one formed since that will tell us something about the likelihood of finding others. But it is very very early times for these kinds of studies.”
“What is encouraging is that we have already found three different types of quasicrystals in the same meteorite, and this new one has a chemical composition that has never been seen for a quasicrystal,” he added. “That suggests there is more to be found, perhaps more quasicrystals that we did not know were possible before.”
Scientists have come a long way towards a better understanding of quasicrystals since their discovery some three decades ago, and they have found many practical applications for them in everything from frying pans to LED lights. But as Steinhardt emphasized, much of the field is still in its infancy, and there is much left to discover. Stay tuned.

Cassini zoomed within 57,000 miles (91,000 kilometers) of Saturn's cloud tops on Sunday morning, diving through the planet's ring plane at about the spot where a faint ring generated by the small moons Janus and Epimetheus lies, NASA officials said.
Cassini will perform 19 more such close passes, each one about a week apart, through April 22, 2017.
"It's taken years of planning, but now that we're finally here, the whole Cassini team is excited to begin studying the data that come from these ring-grazing orbits," Linda Spilker, Cassini project scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, said in a statement. "This is a remarkable time in what's already been a thrilling journey."
The $3.2 billion Cassini-Huygens mission, a joint effort involving NASA, the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency, launched in October 1997 and arrived in orbit around Saturn in July 2004. In January 2005, the piggyback Huygens lander descended to the surface of Titan; the Cassini mothership, meanwhile, kept studying Saturn and the planet's rings and moons.
That work won't last much longer, however. On April 22, Cassini will fly close to Titan, whose gravity will reshape the probe's orbit such that it zooms between Saturn and its innermost ring, which lies just 1,500 miles (2,400 km) from the planet.
Cassini will then make 22 plunges through this gap during the "Grand Finale" phase of its mission, which will conclude with an intentional death dive into Saturn's thick atmosphere on Sept. 15, 2017.
This suicide maneuver will ensure that Cassini doesn't contaminate Titan or its fellow Saturn moon Enceladus with microbes from Earth, NASA officials have said. (Both satellites may be capable of supporting life; scientists think that both Titan and Enceladus harbor subsurface oceans of liquid water, and Titan has seas of hydrocarbons on its surface.)
The Hubble Space Telescope accumulated approximately 555 hours of exposure time to capture this Hubble eXtreme Deep Field image. The area shown represents a seemingly empty patch of sky about the width of a toothpick when held at arm's length. The picture contains only two foreground stars (indicated by surrounding spikes). Every other object is a galaxy. The most distant galaxies' light is reddened by the expansion of the universe. We're seeing light that left them 13.2 billion years ago.
Spoiler alert: The universe is flat. But there's a lot of subtlety packed into that innocent-looking statement. What does it mean for a 3D object to be "flat"? How do we measure the shape of the universe anyway? Since the universe is flat, is that…it? Is there anything else interesting to say?
Oh yes, there is.
Walk the line
First, we need to define what we mean by flat. The screen you're reading this on is obviously flat (I hope), and you know that the Earth is curved (I hope). But how can we quantify that mathematically? Such an exercise might be useful if we want to go around measuring the shape of the whole entire universe. One answer lies in parallel lines. If you start drawing two parallel lines on your paper and let them continue on, they'll stay perfectly parallel forever (or at least until you run out of paper). That was essentially the definition of a parallel line for a couple thousand years, so we should be good.
Let's repeat the exercise on the surface of the Earth. Start at the equator and draw a couple parallel lines, each pointing directly north. As the lines continue, they never turn left or right but still end up intersecting at the North Pole. The curvature of the Earth itself caused these initially parallel lines to end up not-so-parallel. Ergo, the Earth is curved.
The opposite of the Earth's curved shape is a saddle: on that surface, lines that start out parallel end up spreading apart from each other (in swanky mathematical circles this is known as "ultraparallel"). [I explore the possible shapes of the universe in this video.]
The shape of the universe depends on its density. If the density is more than the critical density, the universe is closed and curves like a sphere; if less, it will curve like a saddle. But if the actual density of the universe is equal to the critical density, as scientists think it is, then it will extend forever like a flat piece of paper.

So there you have it: You can measure the "flatness" of a structure just by watching how parallel lines behave. In our 3D universe, we could watch beams of light: If, say, two lasers started out perfectly parallel, then their long-term behavior would tell us important things.
Flat as a (big) pancake
Remember that measuring the shape of the universe is a question for cosmology, the study of the entire universe. And in cosmology, nobody cares about you. Or me. Or solar systems. Or black holes. Or galaxies. In cosmology we care about the universe only at the very largest scales; small-scale bumps and wiggles are not important for this question.
The universe has all sorts of deformations in space-time where it varies from the perfectly flat. Any place where there's mass or energy, there's a corresponding bending of space-time — that's General Relativity 101. So a couple light beams would naturally collide inside a wandering black hole, or bend along weird angles after encountering a galaxy or two.
But average all those small-scale effects out and look at the big picture. When we examine very old light — say, the cosmic microwave background — that has been traveling the universe for more than 13.8 billion years, we get a true sense of the universe's shape. And the answer, as far as we can tell, to within an incredibly small margin of uncertainty, is that the universe is flat.
There is no spoon
Well, that settles that. But this article isn't over yet, which means there's more to the story.
Have you ever asked yourself if there's a difference between a cylinder and a sphere? More than likely not, but it's never too late to try new things.
Take out your piece of paper with two parallel lines on it. Go ahead, dig it out of the trash. Wrap one end around to meet the other, making a cylinder. Carefully observe the parallel lines — they remain parallel, don't they? That's because cylinders are flat.
You heard it here first: Cylinders are flat.
There's an important distinction between geometry, the behavior of parallel lines, and topology, the way a space can get all twisted up. While the geometry of the universe is very well measured (again, it's flat), the topology is not. And here's a bonus fact: not only can we not determine the topology of the universe from observations, but there are also no laws of physics that predict or restrict the topology.
With your 2D piece of paper, you can connect the ends a few different ways. Connect one of the dimensions normally and you have a cylinder. Flip one edge over before connecting and you've made a Mobius strip. Connect two dimensions, the top to the bottom and one side to the other, and you have a torus (aka a donut).
In our 3D universe, there are lots of options — 18 known ones, to be precise. Mobius strips, Klein bottles and Hantzsche-Wendt space manifolds are all non-trivial topologies that share something in common: if you travel far enough in one direction, you come back to where you started. In the case of flipped dimensions, when you come back to your starting point, you'll find yourself upside down without having tried to do so at all. [Watch: Explaining the Shape of the Universe.]
Of course we've looked to see if our universe is connected like this; we don't see any copies of galaxies, and we don't see the cosmic microwave background intersecting itself. If the universe is pretzeled-up, it's on scales far, far larger than what we can observe.
So don't get too excited by possibility of living in a real-life version of the "Asteroids" game — which, as you now know, is played on the surface of a donut.

NASA's Curiosity Mars rover has stopped driving and using its 7-foot-long (2.1 meters) arm while mission controllers investigate a problem with the robot’s sample-collecting drill.
Curiosity was supposed to begin its seventh drilling operation of 2016 last week. But team members learned on Thursday (Dec. 1) that the car-size rover detected a problem with its "drill feed mechanism" — which pushes the drill outward from a turret at the end of Curiosity's arm — and failed to complete the command.
"We are in the process of defining a set of diagnostic tests to carefully assess the drill feed mechanism. We are using our test rover here on Earth to try out these tests before we run them on Mars," Curiosity deputy project manager Steven Lee, of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California, said in a statement Monday (Dec. 5). "To be cautious, until we run the tests on Curiosity, we want to restrict any dynamic changes that could affect the diagnosis," Lee added. "That means not moving the arm and not driving, which could shake it."
Curiosity is not in a precautionary "safe mode," however. The rover continues to study its surroundings on the lower slopes of the 3.4-mile-high (5.5 kilometers) Mount Sharp using the cameras and spectrometer on its head-like "mast," as well as its weather-station gear, which is attached to the mast and Curiosity's body, NASA officials said.
Meanwhile, the rover team is trying to figure out what caused the drill issue.
"Two among the set of possible causes being assessed are that a brake on the drill feed mechanism did not disengage fully, or that an electronic encoder for the mechanism's motor did not function as expected," NASA officials wrote in the same statement.
It may be possible to work around either of these issues, Lee said.
Curiosity's drill bores into rock using both rotating and percussive (hammering) action. Last week's attempt would have been the first time the rover used just the rotary aspect, NASA officials said. (Short circuits in the percussive component have occurred several times over the past two years or so, temporarily sidelining Curiosity.)
"We still have percussion available, but we would like to be cautious and use it for targets where we really need it, and otherwise use rotary-only where that can give us a sample," said Curiosity project scientist Ashwin Vasavada, also of JPL.
The $2.5 billion Curiosity mission touched down inside Mars' Gale Crater in August 2012, tasked with determining whether or not the area could ever have supported microbial life. The rover quickly found plenty of evidence in the affirmative, determining from drilled samples that Gale hosted a long-lasting lake-and-stream system in the ancient past.
Curiosity is now climbing up through the foothills of Mount Sharp, which lies in Gale's center. The six-wheeled robot is searching for clues about how, why and when Mars transitioned from a relatively warm and wet world long ago to the cold, dry planet it is today.
To date, Curiosity has driven 9.33 miles (15.01 km) on Mars, gained 541 feet (165 m) in elevation and drilled into 15 rocks, NASA officials said.
While the largest tech platforms continue to assure us that eliminating misinformation is both a) very important to them, and b) impossible, Google’s search results were hijacked today by fake news about space aliens caught on camera “sucking energy from the sun.” A search for “aliens” turns up a breathless report from UK tabloid Metro about the alleged energy-sucking, which is sourced to a grainy video of unknown origin posted by an anonymous “UFO fan channel.” (We are not linking to this report on purpose!)
The bogus story is newly prominent on Google’s search results page, following a recent redesign that gives added weight to “top stories” in an effort to give Google more of a real-time feel. The new design also serves to highlight articles that use Google’s Accelerated Mobile Pages format, a competitor to Facebook’s Instant Articles format that makes stories load faster on mobile devices. As Kyle Chayka reported yesterday in these pages, publishers are using AMP and Instant Articles to camouflage themselves as legitimate — and platforms aren’t saying anything about what they plan to do about it.
Aliens aren’t the only fake news you’ll find in “top stories.” A quick search for the Loch Ness Monster turns up a credulous piece in the Scottish newspaper Press and Journal reporting that sightings of the (fake) monster were at their highest levels since 2016, according a local crackpot who keeps a list of these things. (The Press and Journal wrote a nearly identical story the year before, bylined by the famous journalist “REPORTER.” The story quoted the same crackpot, and presumably enjoyed a similar surge in search traffic at the time.)
The publishers of these articles deserve their share of blame, of course. Every media company is locked in a death match for readers’ attention, and headlines have become much more sensationalist as a result. (The other two links in “aliens” results today are deeply misleading, but contain a germ of truth. Research cited in the second result refers to the possibility of microbial life — not the “alien” depicted in the accompanying image.)
But by making every story look the same and advertising them as “top stories,” Google has conferred upon them a legitimacy they do not deserve. Most Americans who see fake news believe it. It beggars belief that a company that became a behemoth for the quality of its search results now presents nonsense as fact.

In 1990 an unidentified flying object was spotted “buzzing” the tower at the RAF Valley base onAnglesey.
The claimed sighting on October 16 that year was taken seriously by the local MP at the time, Ieuan Wyn Jones.
He wrote to the Ministry of Defence (MoD) asking for reassurances over the incident.
However, the MoD replied to Mr Jones, who later became the Welsh Government’s Deputy First Minister, stating staff could not remember the incident and it hadn’t been recorded in the air traffic log books.
The ministry suggested it could be explained by another aircraft flying over the base.
“Certainly such an incident would have been notified to the senior air traffic control officer had it occurred,” the MoD said.
“Military aircraft from a variety of RAF establishments regularly undertake low-flying training sorties over the North Wales area and it’s likely that a routine military low-flying training sortie could account for the observation.”

The incident appeared in documents released by the National Archives on UFO reports across the UK.
It is not the first time unidentified objects has been seen in the skies over Anglesey.
On February 7 2001, strange lights were spotted in the North Wales sky over two towns just minutes apart.
The first sighting took place above Caernarfon at 7.40pm of a “green” and “red” object that on first sight “looked like a star”.
Then five minutes later and 25 miles away, another sighting occurred over Amlwch on Anglesey at 7.45pm.
The sightings appeared in an official Government UFO report which had recorded hundreds of strange objects spotted in the sky across the UK that year.
On December 8, 1980 the British musician was shot dead by Mark David Chapman outside his residence in New York City, US.
Conspiracists have long claimed Chapman was in fact working for the US government – FBI documents released in 2010 suggested they tried to deport Lennon on a number of occasions for his music and influence.
But one element of his life continues to confuse the most scientific of supporters.
Six years before his death – on August 23, 1974 – Lennon claimed to have come face-to-face with a UFO.
Describing it from the rooftop of his New York apartment just after the incident, the 34-year-old said: “I saw a UFO and it went down the river, turned right at the United Nations, turned left and then down the river.

In an interview with Larry Warren – from the Merseyside Anomalies Research Association – she said: “He [Lennon] told me that more than once he suspected he had been abducted as a child back in Liverpool.
“And he felt that experience was responsible for making him feel different from other people for the rest of his life.”

Amazing images of the huge fireball - said to have been a meteorite burning up in Earth's atmosphere - were taken in Norway and Siberia and posted online as pictures and videos.
But, Scott C Waring, editor of ufosightingsdaily.com, has come up with another explanation.
In a blog entitled "UFO Forms Giant Worm Hole Over Norway Turning Night Into Day", he wrote: "The UFO is forming a black hole around it...do you see?
"It's not exploding, it's creating the hole first...then it will enter with a flash of light and the hole is gone.
"What you see here is a UFO opening up a wormhole to just disappear."

The fireball was said to turn night into day over Norway.
Mr Waring admitted he had digitally manipulated the images that accompanied his blog.
He added: "I added light and all around the UFO, you see blackness.
"It's not natural...it's a black hole being formed by the UFO to shoot through time and space.
"Some alien was too lazy to leave Earths orbit and just took off in one hell of a hurry."
Mr Waring is known for taking great leaps to reach conclusions when speculating about mysterious images, using his imagination, rather than science to fill in the blanks.

The short video shows the strange object in the distance flashing bright red and blue lights before vanishing without a trace.
The sighting reportedly took place on December 5 as what the video publisher indicated on YouTube.
The nearly 4-minute video shows the outside of the station, but something unusual appears to the right of the screen. It shows an apparent object moving at the same speed.
The video publisher said that it is an unidentified flying object close to the ISS. Some very fast red flashes can be seen in the video.
At around 2:06 of the video, a small red light makes an appearance. The light eventually gets bigger, but also slowly starts to disappear. Seconds before it disappears, at 3:22, a bright blue light suddenly flashes on the screen.

Nearly forty years ago, a U.S. Air Force officer had a close encounter in a British forest. Steve Longero revealed recently that he witnessed the infamous Rendlesham Forest incident in Suffolk, England in 1980, which eventually dubbed as Britain’s Roswell. Many military officers have come forward claiming they saw a UFO during a stretch of mysterious December nights.
Longero thinks it was something out of this world.
On the first night, extraterrestrials were reported on December 26, 1980, the former Air Force officer was on duty.

Longero said that Col. Halt came afterward, gathered everyone and gave instructions on what they were going to do.

Een nieuw onderzoek dat in Nature is gepubliceerd, laat op basis van satellietgegevens van de afgelopen 30 jaar zien dat de hoogste poolwervel de neiging heeft om in februari in de richting van Europa te bewegen.
Dat hangt volgens de onderzoekers nauw samen met het feit dat de hoeveelheid zee-ijs in het noordpoolgebied steeds verder afneemt, vooral in de Barentsz- en de Karazee, die deel uitmaken van de Noordelijke IJszee.
Tegelijk met de verplaatsing is de wervel ook zwakker geworden. Dat betekent dat hij de kou minder goed vasthoudt en dat de lage temperaturen zich van de poolcirkel naar andere gebieden verspreiden.

CR: My name is Carol Rosin. I am an educator who became the first woman corporate manager of an AerospaceCompany, Fairchild Industries. I am a Space and Missile Defense Consultant and have consulted to a number of companies, organizations, and government departments, even the intelligence community. I was a consultant to TRW working on the MX missile, so I was part of that strategy, which turned out to be a role model for how to sell space-based weapons to the public. The MX missile is yet another weapon system that we didn’t need. I founded the Institute for Security and Cooperation in Outer Space, a Washington DC based think tank. I am an author and have testified before Congress and the President’s Commission on Space.
When I was a Corporate Manager of Fairchild Industries from 1974 through 1977, I met the late Dr. Wernher Von Braun. We first met in early 1974. At that time, Von Braun was dying of cancer but he assured me that he would live a few more years to tell me about the game that was being played- that game being the effort to weaponize space, to control the Earth from space and space itself. Von Braun had a history of working with weapons systems. He had escaped from Germany to come to this country and had become a Vice President of Fairchild Industries when I met him. Von Braun’s purpose during the last years of his life, his dying years, was to educate the public and decision-makers about why space-based weapons are dumb, dangerous, destabilizing, too costly, unnecessary, unworkable, and an undesirable idea, and about the alternatives that are available.
As practically a deathbed speech, he educated me about those concepts and who the players were in this game. He gave me the responsibility, since he was dying, of continuing this effort to prevent the weaponization of outer space. When Wernher Von Braun was dying of cancer, he asked me to be his spokesperson, to appear on occasions when he was too ill to speak. And so, I did this.
What was most interesting to me was a repetitive sentence that he said to me over and over again during the approximately four years that I had the opportunity to work with him. He said the strategy that was being used to educate the public and decision makers was to use scare tactics … That was how we identify an enemy.
The strategy that Wernher Von Braun taught me was that first the Russians are going to be considered to be the enemy. In fact, in 1974, they were the enemy, the identified enemy. We were told that they Russians had “killer satellites.” We were told that they were "coming to get us" and control us – that they were “Commies.”
Then, after the Russian threat passed (with the "fall of Communism"), terrorists would be identified as the next threat, and that was soon to follow. Throughout the media for the next decade, we heard a lot about terrorism. Then we were going to identify third-world country “crazies.” We now call them Nations of Concern. But he said that would be the third enemy against whom we would build space-based weapons.
The next enemy was asteroids. Now, at this point he kind of chuckled the first time he said it. Asteroids- against asteroids we are going to build space-based weapons. And the funniest one of all was what he called aliens, extraterrestrials. That would be the final scare. And over and over and over during the four years that I knew him and was giving speeches for him, he would bring up that last card. “And remember Carol, the last card is the alien card. We are going to have to build space-based weapons against aliens and all of it is a lie.”
I think I was too naïve at that time to know the seriousness of the nature of the spin that was being put on the system. And now, the pieces are starting to fall into place. We are building a space-based weapons system on a premise that is a lie, a spin. Wernher Von Braun was trying to hint that to me back in the early 70’s and right up until the moment when he died in 1977.
What he told me was that there is an accelerated effort in place. He didn’t mention a timeline but he said that it was going to be speeding up faster than anybody could possibly imagine. That the effort to put weapons into space was not only based on a lie but would accelerate past the point of people even understanding it until it was already up there and too late.
When Von Braun was dying in front of me, the very first day that I met him, he had tubes draining out of his side. He was tapping on the desk telling me, “You will come to Fairchild.” I was a schoolteacher. He said, “You will come to Fairchild and you will be responsible for keeping weapons out of space.” The way he said it with this intenseness in his eyes, and added that very first day, the first time I met him, that space-based weapons were a dangerous, destabilizing, too costly, unnecessary, untestable, unworkable idea.
The last card that was being held was the extraterrestrial enemy card. The intensity with which he said that, made me realize that he knew something that he was too afraid to mention. He was too afraid to talk about it. He would not tell me the details. I am not sure that I would have absorbed them if he had told me the details or even believed him in 1974. But there was no question that this man knew and had a need to know, I found out later.
There is no doubt in my mind that Wernher Von Braun knew about the extraterrestrial issue. He explained to me the reasons why weapons were going to be put into space, the enemies against whom we were going to build these weapons, and that all of that was a lie. He mentioned that extraterrestrials were going to be identified as the final enemy against whom we were going to build space-based weapon systems back in 1974. The way he said it to me, there was no doubt in my mind that he knew something that he was too afraid to talk about.
Wernher Von Braun never spoke to me about any of the details that he knew related to extraterrestrials except that one day extraterrestrials were going to be identified as anenemyagainst whom we are going to build an enormous space-based weapons system. Wernher Von Braun actually told me that the spin was a lie – that the premise for space-based weaponry, the reasons that were going to be given, the enemies that we were going to identify – were all based on a lie.
I have been tracking the space-based weapons issue for about 26 years. I have debated Generals and Congressional Representatives. I have testified before the Congress and the Senate. I have met with people in over 100 countries. But I have not been able to identify who the people are who are who are making this space-based weapons system happen. I see the news. I see the administrative decisions being made, (regardless of who is President, or what party controls the Congress) and I know that they are all based on lies and greed. But I have yet to be able to identify who the people are beind theplan to weaponize outer space. And that is after tracking this issue for 26 years.
I know that there are big secrets being kept and I know that it is time the public and decision-makers pay attention to the people who are now going to be disclosing the truth. Instead of weaponizing outer space, we need to make some definite changes and build a system in space that will benefit every single person, and all of the animals, and the environment of this planet. The technology is there. The solutions to Earth’s urgent and long-term potential problems are there. I have a feeling that once we start studying this extraterrestrial issue, all of the questions that I have had for 26 years are going to be answered.

However, I have concluded that the plan to weaponize outer space is based on a few people, who are intent making a lot of money and gaining global power. In large part, it is also about ego.
It is not about our essence and who we really are on this planet and loving each other and being at peace and cooperating. The plan isn’t about using technology to solve problems and heal people on this planet. It isn’t about that at all. It is about a few people who really are playing an old, dangerous, costly game to pad their own pocketbooks and engaged in a global power struggle. That is all it is.
I believe that this entire space-based weapons game is initiated right here in the United States of America. What I hope for is that with this information that is being disclosed, the new administration will to do what is right. That is to transform the war game into a space game so that we use the technologies that are available not just as spin-offs of war technology, but as direct technological applications to build a cooperative space system that will benefit the entire world and that will allow us to communicate with the extraterrestrial cultures that are obviously "out there."

Who would benefit from these space-based weapons?
They are the people who work in that arena, people in the military, in industries, in universities and labs, in the intelligence community. This is not just in the United States, but it is worldwide. This is a worldwide cooperative system. Wars are cooperative.
Just as peace will be when it breaks out. But right now there are a lot of people benefiting from destruction. This is what our economy has been based on in this country for decades and it is now spreading around the world. Wars ae being conducted for profit not only political policies. Untold millions of people are suffering as a result.
It is not fair. It never has been. Prophts have foreold and people have screamed: “out of swords let us build plow shares, let’s have peace and hold hands around the world,” but it hasn’t worked because too many people are benefiting from the mass destruction ,which every war brings. Not only are they benefiting financially, but from what my experience is, there are people who actually believe that Armageddon should happen precisely so that we have to have these wars.
So, the propaganda for the weeaponization of space is going from the plans an pocketbook of a military-industrial complex, to the religious right: some people actually believe that we have to have wars for these religious reasons (claiming that "It's in the Bible").
There are people who just love war.
I have met warriors who just love to go to war. Then there are the good people, the soldiers, who just take orders. They have to feed their children and send them to college so they want to keep their jobs. People in laboratories have told me that they don’t want to work on these technologies for war, but if they don’t they won’t get a paycheck. Who is going to pay them? But what I see is that there are not only dual uses for these technologies but there are many uses for the same technologies.
We can build space hospitals, schools, hotels, laboratories, farms, industries. It may sound far-out but if we don’t do that, we are going to build battle stations and weapons pointed down on all of our heads and back out into space. Apparently we have been doing some of that already.
We have a choice now that can be made. We can all benefit – all of the people in the military industrial complex, in the intelligence community, in universities and labs, in the United States and all over the world – we can all benefit. We can just transform that industry so easily with a change of course, a change oattitude, a decision based on our highest consciousness, our spirituality, and on the fact that we have no choice unless we all want to die. And clearly, we don’t. So we can all benefit financially, spiritually, socially, psychologically by dewaponizing outer space. This is technologically and politically feasible. It is possible to transform this game now and everyone on Earth will benefit.
In 1977 I was at a meeting in Fairchild Industries in a conference room called "The War Room." In that room were a lot of charts on the walls with enemies, identified enemies. There were other more obscure names, names like Saddam Hussein and Khadafi. But we were talking then about terrorists, the potential terrorists. No one had ever talked about this before, but this was the next stage after the Russians against whom we were going to build these space-based weapons. I stood up in this meeting and I said:
“Excuse me, why are we talking about these potential enemies against whom we are going to build space-based weapons ... if, in fact, we know that they are not the enemy at this time?”

Well, they continued the conversation about how they were going to antagonize these enemies and that at some point, there was going to be a war in the Gulf, a Gulf War! Now this was in 1977, 1977!
Andeven then, they were talking aboutcreatinga war in the Gulf Region when there was still 25 billion dollars in the space-based weapons program that had yet to be identified. At least it wasn’t called the Strategic Defense Initiative,. That was not until 1983.
This weapons system, then, had obviously been going on for some time and I didn’t know anything about it. So I stood up in this meeting in 1977 and said:
“I would like to know why we are talking about space-based weapons against these enemies.
I would like to know more about this. Would someone please tell me what this is about?”
Nobody answered. They just went on with this meeting as though I hadn’t said anything. Suddenly I stood up in the room and said,:
“If nobody can tell me why you are planning a war in the Gulf when there is a certain amount of money in a budget so that you can create the next set of weapons systems that will be the beginning of the sell to the public about why we need space-based weapons, then consider this: my resignation. And you will not hear from me again!”
And nobody said a word, because they were planning a war in the Gulf and it happened exactly as they planned it, and onschedule!
SG: Who was at this meeting?
CR: The room was filled with people in the revolving door game. There were people that I had seen once in a military uniform and other times in a gray suit and an industry outfit. These people play a revolving door game. They work as consultants, industry people, and/or military and intelligence people. They work in the industries and they revolve themselves through these doors and right into government positions.
I stood up in this meeting and asked if I was hearing correctly, namely, that when there was 25 billion dollars aleady expended in the space-based weapons budget, that there was going to be a war in the Gulf, stimulated, created, so that they could then sell the next phase of weapons to the public and the decision-makers?
This war was going to be created so that they could dump the old weapons and create a whole new set of weapons. So I had to resign from that position. I could no longer work in that industry.
One day in 1990, I was sitting in my living room looking at the money that had been spent on space-based weapons research and development programs and I realized that it had come to that number, about 25 billion dollars, and I said to my husband::
“I am now going to stop everything. I am now going to stop and sit and watch CNN television and I am going to wait for the war to happen.”
My husband said, “Well, you have finally gone over the edge. You have flipped out.” Friends said, “You have really gone too far this time. There is not going to be a war in the Gulf, nobody is talking about a war in the Gulf.”
I replied: “There is going to be a war in the Gulf. I am going to sit here and wait for the war in the Gulf.”
And it happened right on schedule.

As part of the "war game" in the Gulf, we in the public were told that the United States was successful in shooting down Russian Scud Missiles. We were rationalizing new budgets based on that success. In fact, we found out later, after the budgets were approved for the next phase of weapons, that it was a lie.
We did not have successful shoot-downs the way we were told. It was all a lie, just to get more money put in the budget to make more weapons. I was one of the first people to go independently to Russia when I heard that they had “killer satellites.”

When I went to Russia in the early 70’s, I found out that they didn’t have killer satellites, that it was all a lie. In fact, the Russian leaders and people wanted peace. They wanted to cooperate with the United States and with the people of the world.
Another time, I called Saddam Hussein when he was lighting his oil fields on fire. My husband was in the kitchen while I was making this phone call. I got a call back from his First Attaché with Saddam Hussein nearby and he asked:
“Are you a reporter? Are you an agent? Why do you want to know?”
I said,
“No. I am just a citizen who helped to start the movement to prevent the weaponization of outer space and I have found that a lot of stories that I have been told about weapons systems and the enemies are not true. I wanted to find out what would satisfy Saddam Hussein so he would stop making these oil fields catch fire and stop antagonizing people.”
The Fist Attache to Saddam Hussein replied:
“Well, nobody has ever asked him that question, what he wants.” …
So when I hear that there is a possible "threat of extraterrestrials" – and I look at the history of thousands of years of possible ET visitations, and hear the disclosures of honest military-intelligence-industry people who have had experiences with UFO’s, with crashes and landings, with live and dead bodies of extraterrestrial beings – I know it is a lie.
And if I am ever told that these are enemies against whom we have to build space-based weapons systems, based on my own personal experience of having worked in the military industrial complex on weapons systems and military strategy, I am going to know it is a lie. It is a lie.
Not only will I not believe it, but I am going to go out as loudly as I can and tell everyone to take a look. They [the ET’s] have not taken us away yet. We are still here after thousands of years of visits from "Them.." If in fact they are still visiting us now, and we have not been harmed by hem, then we have to look at these visits as something that is nota hostile occurrence.
It would be my hope and my intention to do everything I could to work with people who are working to communicate with and cooperate with these extraterrestrial beings. They are clearly not hostile. We are here. That is enough proof for me.
There is no limit to how people can choose to live on this planet. We have a chance to do that and I think that the window is closing rapidly. I don’t think that we have much time in which to make and implement that decision. We are too close in too many ways to having some horrible disaster happen, or having some sort of "worst war" take place, whether it is from high technology or an exotic weapons system.
We need leadership, and it has to start with the United States President and that is who we all have to reach. If you are international, if you are around the world, if you are in the United States of America, whether you are from any party, any belief system or religion - the United States Commander in Chief, the President of the United States is the person that needs to be reached. We need to say that we want an ultimate, comprehensive, verifiable ban on all space-based weapons

Over the last few months, I have been sent a steady stream of emails from people all over the United States telling me that they have had a UFO sighting. I have had reports of silver oval craft, groups of bright lights moving at incredible speeds and Orbs, mostly red Orbs.
People continue to see strange things in our sky daily all over this planet. You would think by now we would know what they are seeing and from where these things originate. The truth is we are exactly where we are now as where we were years ago when I first started to write and interview people about this subject.
The people who contact me when they have seen something that they realized was not like anything they had ever seen before all hold one thing in common. Every single person is stunned and wants me to have an OMG reaction to the fact they saw something considered unknown or unexplained.
They also think that now that they saw something that it should be front page news. The fact that people have been reporting UFO's, and having encounters with these unknowns from the start of time seems to be completely lost on people who have a sighting with their own eyes. It is clear to me that our society is so backwards and lacking in basic knowledge about this subject that they are stunned when they see one with their very own eyes .
They learn very quickly what it is like to be on "the other side of the coin" and now they are the ones looking for acknowledgement that they did see something that was strange and unexplained, They also know what it is like to look for protection and understanding instead of being laughed at and told that it was a plane and seeing friends turn away from them when they know they had just seen a damn UFO.
Funny how we act towards one another with this subject.
When they contact me I tell them that they are now part of "the club" of millions worldwide who also have seen a UFO and that they now have the knowledge that they Do exist.
I often get back emails wanting me to be more stunned or shocked or shout in a hysteria that they actually did see a real object in the sky and do not understand why I do not "do something."
I explain that I have seen UFO's and I know that they exist and have spoken to many people who also have seen UFO's. It is not earth-shattering news to me that yet another human looked up to find something they did not recognise looking back down at them.
I ask the people that have this type of reaction why they are so shocked that they finally saw something?
The answer always is that they really did not think they existed.
So, I have to wonder how so many can still be walking around this planet when the internet, TV and media, in general, is covered with videos, stories and photos of UFO's from all over the world? The fact we still are so reluctant to understand this is part of our reality on Earth for me is actually frightening.
How is it we are so blinded and kept controlled by something so huge and seen by so many?
How is it that the people do not demand answers and are far happier to stay on a UFO gerbil-wheel of ignorance never wanting any real answers as they run, blindly competing in a "global rat race"? We have millions reporting seeing a strange object. Our reaction is to say wow, maybe look at the photo or video and then just yawn and walk away.
Is it just me? Or are we a bit insane not want to know more? Honestly, what the hell is wrong with us?
I often have people ask me where is the official place to report a UFO sighting. They seem to think there is some government agency or organisation that is seriously dealing with this issue. I think at times that society thinks that somewhere someone who knows what they are doing is taking care of all of this UFO stuff so they do not have to worry about it.
Well gang, sorry to be the one to tell you...
but when it comes to UFO's it is everyone for themselves as you are on your own with this issue.
Other nations have department's or government agencies that do collect and keep data on the UFO issue in their country but we here in America are NOT one of them. If you call the police, you do not get anywhere. If you call the military you get nothing. We are set up to shut up and shut down people who try to discuss what they are seeing. Using ridicule and laughter has worked for years to silence the public on this subject and obviously continues to work as we are still locked on this rat-wheel of stupidity with this ever growing issue of UFO's flying all over our country and nothing being done or explained or addressing the problem at all.
I had a man complain to me that he placed his sighting on MUFON but nothing happened. I asked him what he wanted to happen? He thought a big truck with white lab coat researchers would show up at his location to investigate his encounter.
I hated to be the one to tell him MUFON is a privately owned website, no hangers or buildings involved and the guy who owns it? ...Well who knows what he does with the reports? It is not connected to any agency or government or military in any way so hs should stop waiting for any official reaction from them.
It is not the guy who owns MUFON or the TV shows making a fast buck off of our curiosity or the media or the thousands of internet pages that talk about this subject, IT IS US! ...
It is us, you and me, to blame for our ragged approach to this serious issue that needs to be addressed.
Why do we want to look at the subject as we do? Why do we treat is as a scary movie but not want to digest the fact that these things are real and flying over our heads often? We may be in deep trouble and real danger yet we refuse to look up or ask why these objects are watching us. I fear them and I know you should too. Why are they here? What do they want? Who are they? Are they ours? Good God I think we need to know.
Why is it we will see a UFO and still just go about our business as usual? Why do we just want to NOT KNOWN what the hell these things are and why do they fly around watching us? I will not even address the fact that they take some of us. The question has to be what is wrong with all of us. We can sit and listen to an hour-long radio show on this subject, yawn and go to bed and give no thought at all to the fact that maybe we all need to know what is going on with these things. It is almost insane in my thinking that we are content to do nothing at all about asking questions of those who should have the answers for us. We should in mass be demanding our government and military tell us what these objects are and if we need to fear them.
I want to know. I really am fearful and want to know, don't you?
For now, I will watch as we run round and round on a large UFO rat-wheel of blissful ignorance, refusing to get past the point of chatting about the issue and staying locked in the dangerous dark ages of looking away, ignoring or denying what and who it is that is flying our skies and watching us as we ignore it all in ignorance and a mindless bliss. Maybe we are hypnotized or brainwashed or drugged to be so complacent about this serious subject, I just do not know ...

There will always be conspiracy theories found in everything that happens. Whether true or not, they manage to convince enough people. From how subliminal advertising controls our behavior at Roswell aliens, secret organizations that control the world theories on the terrorist attacks, these theories are true? “Hij stuurde me uren voor zijn dood nog berichten,” vertelde ze aan Yahoo. “Hij heeft zeker geen zelfmoord gepleegd.”

Spiers was afgelopen zomer in Polen om een lezing te geven over complottheorieën en UFO’s, iets waar hij veel over wist te vertellen aangezien hij naar eigen zeggen deel had uitgemaakt van een overheidsprogramma rond ‘supersoldaten’.
