COSMIC RAYS: Scientists have not been able to sole the mystery of the energy blastsSpace experts are scratching their heads as to the origin of the mysterious alien blasts of energy storming through the Solar System.
Scientists revealed in a new study they still cannot work out what is causing them despite trawling through seven years worth of data.
Cosmic rays are blasts of tiny subatomic particles which batter the Earth’s atmosphere and can send showers of energy to the surface.

Boffins used the Fermi Gamma Ray Space Telescope spacecraft to try and solve the mystery of the cosmic rays.
But despite the mountain of data they have not even been able to workout the direction the rays are coming from as they hit Earth.
While some of the rays come from stars exploding in supernovas, there are others scientists admit cannot be accounted for and are believed to come from another galaxy.

Cosmic rays travel at near the speed of light and are theorised to be a potential source of energy.
Scientists have theorised alien life could survive on a diet of cosmic rays after a bug was found on Earth surviving on radiation.
