Robert Lewis Depoorter, 83, of Moline, passed away Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Rafferty Funeral Home, 2111 1st St. A, Moline. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island, with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 246, Moline. Memorials can be made to Alleman High School football or Habitat for Humanity.
Robert was born Nov. 18, 1932, in Moline, the son of Joseph and Martha VandenBusshe Depoorter. He married Nancy Ann Slover Dec. 29, 1956, at St. Anne Church, East Moline.
Bob retired from the Teamsters union as an independent truck driver.Bob lived a full life loving his family, watching his son coach football, eating out and bringing lawn mowers back from the dead. Robert was never happier than when he was spending time with his family. He was born and raised Catholic and was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, which he attended regularly, including this past Sunday. His faith and beliefs were instilled in his seven children, their spouses and children, and his niece, Mary (Bob) Evans and nephew, John (Vickie) Roach and their families, who became a part of his. He also spent time with his 13 brothers and sisters and his many nieces and nephews. When family wasn't around, he was found in the garage fixing their broken lawn mowers, cars or any other thing that needed to be fixed. Robert was a proud U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and member of American Legion Post 246, Moline.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Todd (Jan) Depoorter, Kathryn (Joe) Swanson, Susan Taylor, Kent (Molly) Depoorter, Barry (Jean) Depoorter, Amy (Fernando) Rohwer and Ann (Jared) Jordan; grandchildren, Grace, Robert, Allie, Samantha, Jacob, John, Kevin, Elizabeth, Kayla, Erica, Katie (Nate), Ben, Kristy (Alex), Mallory (Troy), Ashley, Maggie, Samantha, Emma, Brad, Amanda (Matt), Joie, Corey (Rhonda), Jarrid, Sam, Brady and Lucy; great-grandchildren, Ianto, Lauren, Peyton, Brayden, Haddie, Gage, Rochelle and Ryan; as well as sisters, Theresa (Doug) Wilson and Julia DeBlaey. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Marie (Lloyd) Ratto, Toni Smith, Margaret (Bert) Kochuyt, Anne (Nyle) Wegener, Dorothy (Andrew) Saelens, Clara Jackson, Rose (Lee) Glaudel, George (Norva) Depoorter, Joe Depoorter, Lawrence Depoorter, Betty (Richard Liedke), (Larry) Shumaker and (Robert) DeBlaey.
