Police say they will be making inquiries in the Brayford Pool area throughout Monday

A man's body was recovered from Brayford Pool in Lincoln in the early hours of Monday.

Lincolnshire Police said it was alerted to a man in the water close to the flyover bridge at 00:40 BST.

Officers retrieved the man's body from the water with help from fire service colleagues but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the death was "unexplained" and have appealed for anyone with information to get it in touch.

A force spokesperson said the man was white, in his 50s with very short grey/blond hair, grey/blond facial hair and of a slim build.

He had been wearing dark trousers and a jumper, with black trainers.

The spokesperson said police remained on scene and would be conducting inquiries in the area until at least Monday afternoon.

"If you were on a night out in the area last night (Sunday 5 May), into this morning, please check mobile phone footage and see if you may have captured anything with a man matching his description.

"We are keen to see any footage of him prior to going into the water, as well as anything which may have captured him entering the water," they added.

They asked anyone with information to get in touch.
