Belper: Newlyweds adopt kitten found trapped at wedding

A couple say adopting a kitten found stuck under a marquee floor at their wedding has "completed their family".

Lauren and Sam were preparing for their big day at Shottle Hall, near Belper, Derbyshire, when they heard a noise they thought was coming from pipework in the bar area.

But it turned out to be Ollie, a black and white newborn, who was then rescued by RSPCA inspectors.

The couple said adopting the kitten had brought "love and joy" to their home.

The newlyweds said they only found out about Ollie several weeks after the September wedding when they rang the venue to retrieve a personalised cake cutter.

Staff at the venue informed them the noise they had heard had actually been a tiny kitten stuck underneath the marquee.

Lauren told BBC Radio Derby she instantly knew she wanted to go and see the young cat.

Sam said: "I looked straight into Lauren's eyes after the venue told us about the kitten and I instantly said 'we're getting a cat aren't we'."

The couple visited Ollie at RSPCA Derby's rehoming centre on a weekly basis before finally bringing him home on 15 November.

But they also decided Ollie deserved a friend - so they adopted a second kitten called Callie.

"We certainly picked Ollie the perfect best friend," said Lauren.

"Fast-forward five months and they are both loving their new home.

"We couldn't have found a better pair to complete our little family and love how much fun and joy they have brought to our house."
