Portadown: Man charged with five counts of assault on police

A man has been charged after police officers were assaulted in Portadown.

The officers were responding to a report of an assault on a man in Thomas Street in the County Armagh town shortly before 00:50 BST on Saturday.

When they arrived, officers found a man in his 20s with head injuries, which were believed to have been caused by a glass bottle.

While they were at the scene they were then assaulted by a man, who allegedly pointed a fake gun at them

A 31-year-old man was later arrested in connection with the incident.

He has now been charged with five counts of assault on police and one count of resisting police.

He is due to appear before Lisburn Magistrates' Court on Monday.
