May Day: Rallies around the world in pictures

People around the world have taken to the streets this May Day to campaign for improved workers' rights.
Many of the demonstrations to mark International Workers' Day on Wednesday have been peaceful, but there have also been arrests and scenes of violence.
Here are some of the pictures from rallies across the globe.
More than 200 people have been detained in Turkey as protesters clashed with police near Taksim Square in Istanbul, Turkey
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that the protests were banned, which critics say violates the right to public demonstration
A total of 265 demonstrations have been held across France, according to state media, with violence breaking out in several places including Nantes (pictured)
Workers also marked the public holiday in Jakarta, Indonesia, demanding an increase to the minimum wage and protections from outsourcing jobs
Public sector workers also took to the streets in Pristina, Kosovo, calling for better wages
Trade unionists criticised South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol's government in the capital, Seoul
There were reports of some clashes between police officers and protesters in Paris, with at least 25 arrests made as 121,000 demonstrators marched
Demonstrators in Jakarta also protested a controversial 2020 law which they say harms workers and the environment
The rallies in Indonesia were not just limited to Jakarta - demonstrators also gathered in front of government buildings in East Java's provincial capital Surabaya
Trade union members held demonstrations in the Thai capital Bangkok calling for a minimum wage increase and improved social welfare
Some demonstrators in Naples, Italy, were also calling for a ceasefire in Gaza
