Drink-driver Jack Burkhill admits killing teen Felicity Pacey in Denton crash

An "intoxicated" driver has admitted causing the death of a 17-year-old girl in a crash after the car hit speeds of 100mph (160km/h), a court has heard.

Felicity Pacey, a passenger in a Hyundai, died at the scene of the crash on Belvoir Road, in Denton, Lincolnshire, on 9 June 2023.

Lincoln Crown Court heard Jack Burkhill, 21, was "showing off" when he lost control on a bend near Grantham.

A judge warned of a lengthy jail term when he is sentenced on 31 May.

Burkhill, of Seventh Avenue, Grantham, appeared in court on Thursday where he admitted causing Miss Pacey's death by dangerous driving.

Miss Pacey, known as Fliss, of Woolsthorpe by Belvoir, was a trainee financial adviser.

An inquest heard she died from chest injuries some time after 22:30 BST.

Prosecutor David Webster said Burkhill's driving fell into the highest level of culpability due to both his speed and level of alcohol intoxication.

"To use a phrase, we say he was 'showing off'," Mr Webster told the court.

Judge Simon Hirst granted Burkhill unconditional bail but imposed an interim driving ban.

In a tribute at the time of her death, the teenager's parents described her as "the most incredible and beautiful daughter", adding she would be greatly missed by all her extended family and many friends.

"The depth of grief we feel is because we have known love and been loved by you, we will treasure your memory for all our lives," they said.

At the time of the incident, Lincolnshire Police said two other people were also in the Hyundai I30, when it was travelling from Woolsthorpe towards Denton, and they required medical treatment following the crash.
