Nantyglo van man who reversed into police car jailed

These were the scenes when a van reversed into a police car before an officer gave chase on foot.

John Pacer Smith reversed into the vehicle after stealing two cans of oil from a shop in Rogerstone, Newport.

The 35-year-old, of Nantyglo, Blaenau Gwent, was later arrested and pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and theft.

Smith was sentenced to 16 months imprisonment at Newport Crown Court on Monday.

He was also disqualified from driving for a total of 20 months and must take an extended driving test.
