Joke golf course signs reinstated in pothole protest
BBCHandmade signs advertising a golf course in a road have been reinstated in a protest over potholes.
New notices have appeared in Portsview Avenue, Portchester, after Hampshire County Council removed similar signs in April.
Local resident Pat Tiller said: "It's very, very dangerous this road now. Hopefully someone will take note and do something about it."
The council said it would resurface the road within a year.
A spokesperson said: “More maintenance work is scheduled to take place along Portsview Avenue in the coming weeks and this will be in addition to the repairs recently completed.
"Plans are being drawn up to fully resurface the road later this financial year.”
The poor quality of roads in England is estimated to cost the economy more than £14bn a year, according to the Centre of Economics and Business Research.
In 2023, the government announced that £8.3bn of HS2 rail scheme funding would be redirected into filling potholes in England.
However, the backlog of road repairs would cost £16.3bn to fix, the Asphalt Industry Alliance reported in March.
