Deaf Newcastle United fan 'felt part of match' with vibrating kit

A deaf football fan says he is "proud" of Newcastle United captain Dan Burn using sign language during goal celebrations at St James' Park.

On 13 April, new "haptic" kits - shirts which use sensors which vibrate when action takes place on the pitch - were introduced for fans who are deaf or have hearing loss to better experience the atmosphere.

They were created in partnership between Newcastle United's kit sponsor Sela and the Royal National Institute for the Deaf.

Among those who got to try it out was 12-year-old Ciaran from Blyth, Northumberland, who was pictured celebrating one of the Magpies' four goals with his gran.

His mum Sue Walker said: "When the shirt was vibrating on his stomach, he was thinking he was going to have abs by the end of the match because they scored that much."
