A man has died more than a week after plunging from a sixth-floor window at a university campus.

Student Matthew Gilbert, 19, was taken to Cardiff's University Hospital of Wales in the early hours of Sunday 14 April to treat his injuries.

Police said he died in hospital on Wednesday following his fall at Swansea University's Singleton campus.

Officers are supporting his family while students are being supported by the university.

Swansea University said its thoughts and condolences were with Matthew's family.

"Matthew was a first-year student with us studying LLB Law with Criminology," it said in a statement.

"He was making excellent progress with his course. His loss is felt by all who knew him."
