Bushmills: Arrest after man nailed to fence

A man has been arrested by detectives investigating an attack in which a man was nailed to a fence in Bushmills, County Antrim.

The victim, who is in his 20s, was found stuck to the fence with a nail through each hand in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The man under arrest is 37 years old.

He was detained under the Terrorism Act in Bushmills on Friday and remains in custody.

Police also searched a residential premises in the area and seized a number of items which have been taken away for further forensic examination.

A detective inspector described the assault as "sinister" and said the investigation remains ongoing.

"This barbaric attack has been widely condemned and we would continue to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and has any information, including dash-cam or other footage, to contact police," the officer added.
