Groen! grijpt de dalende cijfers van de Antwerpse haven in de eerste jaarhelft aan om te pleiten voor het behoud van polderdorp Doel. "Zelfs als de trend in de tweede jaarhelft verbetert, eindigt 2009 met een lager volume dan 2007. Aangezien er geen nood is aan bijkomende containercapaciteit, is er geen nood aan een tweede dok. En aangezien er geen nood is aan een tweede dok, hoeft Doel niet te verdwijnen", luidt het in een mededeling van Filip Watteeuw, de fractieleider van de groenen in het Vlaams parlement.









Eind augustus loopt het tijdelijk woonrecht in het polderdorp af, en de groenen roepen nu op om dit te verlengen. "Eigenlijk zou men moeten teruggrijpen naar de beslissing van de paars-groene regering in 2000: Doel blijft zolang er geen bouwvergunning is voor het Saeftinghedok".

Groen! ziet een toekomst voor Doel, enerzijds vanuit toeristisch-recreatief oogpunt en anderzijds als kunstevenementendorp. (br.hln)
