Aan de namen te horen, en de stemmetjes, zijn er nogal wat kinderen. Ze wonen hier al een tijdje, dus de kinderen spreken al een heel mondjevol Vlaams, ze gaan hier ook naar school, en hebben reeds wat schoolvrienden van hun leeftijd bij de buren. Een tijdje terug zijn ze thuis gekomen met een aantal, een flink aantal, knuffel konijntjes. Ze dachten waarschijnlijk dat die beestjes in hun tuin zouden blijven, of ze ergens in een hok woonden geloof ik niet, want zoals echte konijnen, kweken ze ook zoals konijnen. Er lopen dus zeker reeds een twintig tal langhorige knuffels rond. Waarschijnlijk meer, want wekelijks zien we er anders gevlekten bijkomen, ze blijven ook niet klein, want we hebben er reeds flink uit de kluiten gewassen. Gelukkig is de onderste halve meter van onze draad afscheiding kleinmazig, zodat ze er nog niet zo gemakkelijk door kunnen kruipen. Raar, maar gangen hebben ze nog niet gegraven, of doen angora konijnen dat niet. Och....zolang we er niet te veel last van hebben blijft het eerder leuk. Nu hebben we daar een geit, een paar ganzen, een half dozijn mooie witte eendjes, een troep konijnen, acht kippen, vier zwerfkatten, waarvan een met een nest. Ook enkele honden, maar daar hebben we eigenlijk nog het minste last van. Eigenlijk zijn het de Polen die het meeste lawaai maken. Op mooie zomerse weekend avonden, ontvangen ze nogal wat vrienden of familie, en lopen de feestjes wel wat uit. Maar alles bij alles, blijft het draaglijk. Wommelgem wordt zo stil aan multicultureel. Allee, tot de volgende keer dan maar weer.
