Blueslegende B.B. King is gisteren op 89-jarige leeftijd overleden in Las Vegas. Dat heeft zijn advocaat vandaag bekendgemaakt. Minder dan een maand geleden werd King nog in het ziekenhuis opgenomen.
Het ging al een tijdje niet goed met de gezondheid van de muzikant. Hij leed meer dan twintig jaar aan diabetes type 2. De bluesgitarist werd eind april in het ziekenhuis opgenomen met uitdrogingsverschijnselen. Begin mei liet hij via zijn Facebookpagina weten dat hij thuis verzorgd werd.
B.B. King wordt als een van de beste gitaristen uit de muziekgeschiedenis beschouwd. Muziekmagazine Rolling Stone plaatste hem op de derde plaats in de lijst van grootste gitaristen ooit.
In 1970 scoorde hij met 'The Thrill is Gone' een monsterhit. (br.hln)
