Dagelijkse appel verkleint kans op kanker
Het regelmatig eten van appels beperkt het risico op een bepaalde
darmkanker, dat blijkt uit recent Pools onderzoek.
De
onderzoekers vergeleken de gegevens van 592 patiënten met deze ziekte
met die van 765 gezonde mensen. Daaruit blijkt dat degenen die meer dan
één appel per dag eten de helft minder risico liepen op colorectale
kanker. Het eten van ander fruit heeft niet hetzelfde effect op je
gezondheid.
Volgens de
onderzoekers is de hoge concentratie van flavonoïden in appels de reden.
Deze gedragen zich als antioxidanten en zitten voornamelijk in de schil
van de appels, je vindt ze er vijf keer meer dan in het vruchtvlees. De
onderzoekers raden dus aan het fruit te wassen in plaats van te
schillen. Flavonoïden verhinderen dat vrije radicalen schade aanrichten
aan het weefsel, zo kunnen ze kanker voorkomen.
