The first meeting of the Club Morgan Aero Eight was held at the beautiful and historic Chateau de la Mesardiere in St Tropez. The event was a celebration of the passion which the Morgan Aero Eight provokes. 22 Aero Eights representing the life of the production model looked resplendent in the car park in the gardens of the Chateau on the evening of Thursday 28th September. It was particularly heartwarming to see Aero Eight Number One in St Tropez. This was the first pre production prototype which the factory team evaluated and tested in Malvern and at Miramas track before the cars launch at the Geneva Show.
The event begun with a cocktail and a fascinating talk by Jean Claude Biver, the owner of Hublot watches. Jean Claude shared his extensive knowledge of the production of and market for finely engineered Swiss watches. He drew a parallel between the design and concept of a Hublot watch and the Morgan Aero Eight. The two products he said were a fusion of crafted precious materials and high technology. This combination provided a discerning customer with a combination of reliability, practicality and crafted speciality. He also claimed to have been inspired by the idea of the Morgan waiting list to insist that his watches be ordered rather than sold from stock. But most appreciated of all was his immensely generous offer of two of his latest Big Bang watches to be given away during the course of the event. These watches won the award for the best Swiss watch design of 2005. After an excellent dinner at the hotel the group retired to bed.
Both Aero 8 and Aero Max have been the subject of newspaper and magazine articles recently, with honourable mentions in the Telegraph and the Sunday Times amongst others. All the articles have been very positive and the Aero is now making a name for itself in the top end of the market place.
Perhaps the most interesting piece was the Auto Express comparison between the Aero 8 and Bentley Continental GTC. So which car came out on top? Well Bentley owners may wish to look away now, but others should read on!
To take a quote from Auto Express about the Aero: 'Far more immediate and involving than the Bentley, the Aero 8 has fantastic turn-in grip, wonderful steering and never threatens to bite or snap suddenly. It is one of the most rewarding sports cars we are likely to drive this year.'
