Een filosoof zei ooit
dat 't hart en de liefde bepaalt
hoe oud je reeds bent.
Als je de "Derde leeftijd" haalt,
en grijzend, rimpeltjes je sieren,
kan je zo jong nog zijn,
zo dartel in gedachten,
als 't jeugdig maagdekijn.

Kijk naar ons Izegem
(meer dan) negenhonderd jaar oud,
maar steeds vernieuwend jong,
"boos en stout".
Neem daar een voorbeeld aan,
wordt nooit echt oud,
zelfs in je groot' en kleine pijntjes,
denk aan het leven... als aan goud.
