Het is een verhaal dat al jaren de ronde doet op het internet:doe wat aceton in uw brandstoftank en rij meer dan honderd kilometer meer met de zelfde hoeveelheid brandstof.

Voor de eerste keer en na lang opzoeking werk heeft een wetenschapper uit Charleroi(de man wil anoniem blijven) de zaak onder zocht ( Het klopt inderdaad )zegt Dr P.( Door 94 milliliter aceton, gemengd met vier liter plantaardige olie, toe te voegen aan mijn brandstoftank rij ik maar liefst 130 kilometer verder) .

De man is docter in de farmaceutische wetenschappen,met een passie voor auto’s en motoren. Hij hoorde voor het eerst over een techniek op de BBC.(En op internet vond ik tientallen getuigenissen.Ik wou het ook proberen .)

Zo gezegd zo gedaan.Dr P.voegde 94 milliliter aceton - een product dat de vrouwen gebruiken om nagellak te verwijderen - gemengd met vier liter plantaardige olie toe aan een volle tank diesel.Hier door daalde het verbruik van P’s Citroen Berlingo van 7,6 liter naar 6,3 liter op honderd kilometer , en kon hij 130Km verder rijden dan voorheen, goed voor een stijging van 15% .Het is alleen belangrijk dat je de juiste hoeveelheid aceton per liter brandstof toevoegt .

Voor diesels dit 1,5 milliliter per liter,voor benzine bedraagt de hoeveelheid 2,3 milliliter per liter . Anders is het effect amper voelbaar . Het geheim zit volgens Dr P. in de verbranding.Aceton zorgt ervoor dat de spanning van de brandstof naar beneden wordt gedrukt . Hierdoor gaat de brandstof fijner en beter ,en dus zuiniger verstuiven in motor . Hierdoor verbruikt deze minder. Iedereen mag het van mij proberen - op eigen risico natuurlijk .Dirk Vanderzande, prof organische chemie aan de universiteit van Hasselt,lijkt wel overtuigt.(Het verhaal lijkt perfect aannemelijk omdat aceton een positief effect heeft op de verbranding van de brandstoffen.De hoeveelheid aceton is zo klein - ongeacht het effect - de risico’s voor de wagen verwaarloosbaar zijn . )

Conclusie: proberen staat vrij, maar dan op eigen risico .
