Life Expectancy in Portugal
According to an extensive report published by WHO (World Health Organisation), life expectancy is almost ten years more than it was three decades ago. According to the organisation, this astonishing improvement in life expectancy rates is due "thanks to one of the worlds" most successfull performances in reducing mortality. The report also found that Portugal now has the 11th HIGHEST LIFE EXPECTANCY RATE IN THE WORLD. Meanwhile, according to WHO, Portugal's succes is the result of development of a nationwide primary health care system. WHO further praises the network of health centres staffed by physicians and nurses which have progressively covered the country in recent years. Portugal considers this to be its greatest succes in terms of improved acces to care and health gains, WHO says. Healthcare in Portugal, which is free of charge, currently costs the state an annual sum of 2.034 euros per citizen.
