Omstreeks de tiende eeuw bouwden de Arabieren de stad op de huidige plaats en omgaven deze met palmbomen. Meer dan 300.000 palmbomen geven Elche een exotische sfeer. De bomen mogen niet worden omgehakt en worden door Unesco tot Werelderfgoed verklaard.

Around the tenth century, the town was build on the present site, surrounding it with palm trees. More than 300.000 palm trees give Elche an exotic atmosphere. The trees should not be felled an declared biy Unesco as World Heritage Site.

Alrededor de siglo 10, los arabes construyeron la ciudad en la poblacion actual, y rodearon con palmeras. Mas de 300.000 palmeros en Elche dan un ambiente exotico. Las palmeras no deben ser cortados y declarados por la Unesco como Patrimonio de la Humanidad.

Eén van de oudste steden van Spanje. De stad is inde derde eeuw voor Christus gesticht door Hasdrubal, een legeraanvoeder uit Carthago. De stad werd Quart Ehadast ( nieuwe stad ) genoemd. Onder de Romeinen werd het Carthago Nova. Hiervan is de naam Cartagena afgeleid.

One of the oldest cities in Spain. In the third century BC, the city was founded by Hasdrubal, an army general from Carthago. The town was named Quart Ehadast ( new town ). Among the Romans, it became Carthago Nova. Of these, the name Cartagena is derived.

Unas de las ciudades mas antiguas de Espana. En el tercero siglo antes de Cristo, la ciudad esta fundada por Hasdrubal, un general de Carthago. La ciudad fue nombrada Quart Ehadast (nuevo ciudad ). Entre los Romanos era Carthago Nova. De estos, el nombre Cartagena se deriva.

Samen met onze vrienden, Chris en Guy, hebben we een reis gemaakt naar Portugal, meer bepaald naar de Algarve. We verbleven in Riu Palace Algarve en je ziet in de voorstelling, een bezoek aan de wijngaard van Cliff Richard en een impressie van het strand van Olhos d'agua tot Vilamoura.
