Kalimantan is the southern 2/3 of the island of Borneo. Of the 12 million people on Borneo, about 9 or 10 million live in Kalimantan, most in settlements along its rivers.
Kalimantan's unique cultures, unusual wildlife and spectacular flora remain the main attractions for the trickle of tourists with the time, money and energy required to explore this region.
Highlights :
* Travel by river to interior DAYAK communities, and admire a bewildering array of watercraft, particularly Sungai MAHAKAM.
* Trek in the numerous national parks, amid a spectacular diversity of flora, and hopefully spot an endangered ORANG-UTAN.
* Discover the hidden cultures of the indegenous DAYAK - a must for the adventurous traveller...
( see LP. on p. 664 )
* Enjoy reefs, white-sand beaches and spectacular diving at Pulau DERAWAN, a tropical island paradise...
