Installation of Cracker Cilacap
In 1982 I was working at the cooling water intake at the refinery of Pertamina in Cilacap Indonesia.
On the refinery Fluor installed a giant cracker. I do not remember the dimensions well, but I think the cracker was 100 m of lenght and weighted 1000 T.
Two huge cranes were installed and anchored with wires all around.
The cracker arrived on a heavy load ship and was rolled on trolleys to the location of installation.
Within one or two days after arrival the the installation took place.
The president of Indonesia was invited to assist.
When the cracker reached the position as shown on the picture, something went wrong.
At one of the cranes, all the wire had to be removed from the drum to do a repair.After the problem was solved all the wire was replaced on the drum, and the following day the lifting was resumed and the erection succesfully completed.
The president of Indonesia had then gone home already.
