Voor diegenen die dromen van een world-tour, kunnen Jan en Stijn volgen tijdens hun reis - de wereld rond in 10 maanden .
Ze zijn nu al 274 dagen aan het rondhollen en zijn via Mexico-LA- Fiji- NZ. - Australia- Singapore - Maleisia- Thailand- Cambodja- Laos  aangekomen in VIETNAM.
Ook op de vreemdste plekken staat lekker eten centraal. Een wereldreis a la carte !

De geisoleerde 2700 km2 kust-enclave Oecussi maakt politiek gezien deel uit van East Timor, maar geografisch en kultureel sluit het volledig aan bij West Timor ( Indonesia ).
Het vroegere Ambeno- nu Oecussi- met als voornaamste stad Pantemakassar- heeft zowat 50.000 inwoners. Deze bevolking behoort tot de Dawan stam, de grootste etnische groep in West Timor.
De curieuze ligging van Oecussi vormt een complex probleem voor de nieuwe natie East Timor.
Vervoer tussen Oecussi en E.T. is moeilijk en zal een nauwe samenwerking vereisen tussen E.T, en Indonesia.
Nota : de fun bestaat erin om er te geraken; hetzij met de Dash 7 van de UN of met de ferry MV Uma Kalada vanuit Dili.

Wagens werden van zowat overal geimporteerd wanneer het internationale contingent ( UN ) East Timor binnen stroomde eind '99. Vandaag zijn  E. Timor's eigen nummerplaten - witte achtergrond met TLS ( = Timor Loro Sae ) - beschikbaar, maar maanden ( nu zelfs jaren ...) na de onafhankelijkheid rijden de meeste wagens nog rond met nummerplaten van Indonesia, een varieteit van de Australische staten ( nl. van de Northen Territories ) , Singapore, Hong Kong en zelfs van verder ...

The second largest town of East Timor, Baucau is 123 km east of Dili and sits at an altitude of 330 m where the seabreeze make it noticebly cooler than the coast.This charmingly raffish colonial town has many Portuguese buildings.
...As  you approach Baucau from Dili the big airport is 7 km before the town.Past the airport a statue marks where the road forks : turning left takes you directly to the colonial-era Old Town, while turning right will take you first to the New Town before dropping down to the Old Town.

Dili to Bacau is a 3-hour bus trip ( US $2 ) along the coast.  ( see : L.P.)

Sleeping and Eating : 
Pousada de Baucau : this establishment is also known as the Hotel Flamboyant, its Portuguese -era name - and an appropriate one, since it's painted a flamboyant shade of pink.
Recently,it has had a major renovation, and although it's not going to win any design awards, it's probably the most interesting and certainly the most CHARMING place to stay in the country. Th 10 new rooms are in a newer block beside the original old pousada building.The new rooms have balconies, an attached bathroom, satellite TV, a fridge and other mod coms....

Radio :
Far and away the most important branch of media is radio,with a national broadcaster Radio de Timor Leste ( RTL ) and a host of community stations. The Catholic  Church 's very popular radio station, Radio Timor Kmanek ( RTK ) , is the only community station that was on the air before the 1999 referendum.Since 1999 it has been joined by more than a dozen other stations ...

TV :
The national public TV station is Televisao de Timor  Leste ( TVTL ) which produces a small amount of local content, which it broadcasts along with Australian, British  and Portuguese programming.
Satellite dishes bring in a very wide range of international television broadcasting, specially for the wealthier East Timorese.
