Na een korte onderbreking hebben we weer wat nieuws vanuit India.

Nieuw schooljaar

Sinds 1 juni zijn onze petekinderen terug naar school na 2 maanden vakantie. Net zoals hier blijven sommigen in hun bekende school, andere beginnen aan hun schoolperiode en nog andere veranderen van school om hogere studies aan te vatten. We wensen hen allemaal een boeiend en vruchtbaar schooljaar.

Dank zij de giften van de peetouders konden we dit jaar ook weer alle kinderen terug naar school laten gaan. Hierdoor krijgen zij niet alleen de kans om een betere toekomst uit te bouwen, zo blijven zij buiten het circuit van de kinderarbeid en wordt het analfabetisme steeds verder teruggedrongen. De impact van de schoolopleiding op de omgeving van het kind wordt soms onderschat en daarom is het meer dan zinvol om met dit project kinderen de kans te geven om naar school te gaan.

New school year

After 2 months vacation our foster children went back to school on June 1st. Like here some children return to their familiar school, others just start their education and still others change school to follow higher studies. We wish them all an interesting and succesful school year.

Thanks to the gifts form our foster parents we could again allow all children to go to school. This does not only give them a chance for a better future, it keeps them out of the circuit of children labour and reduces illiteracy. The impact of the school education on the environment of the child is often underestimated which is why it makes a lot of sense to continue our support.

Hittegolf

Zoals ongetwijfeld bekend van krant of televisie bereikte de temperatuur in India onlangs zeer hoge waarden van 50° C en meer. De gevolgen waren dramatisch met zeer veel dodelijke slachtoffers. Via onze contacten hebben we vernomen dat het gebied waarin onze petekinderen leven, gespaard is gebleven van deze extreme temperaturen. Het zijn voornamelijk de naburige deelstaten van Karnataka die getroffen werden.

Heat wave

As you may have read in the papers or heard on TV there has been an heat wave in India with extreme temperatures of 50° C and more. The consequences were dramatic with a lot of victims. Through our contacts we heard that the region where our children are living were spared from those extreme temperatures. The heat wave mostly hit the neighbouring states.

Nieuwe functies

Het is in India de gewoonte dat de priesters na een 5-tal jaar een andere functie krijgen. We hebben dit reeds meermaals meegemaakt in de voorbije jaren.

Dit jaar krijgt de coördinatorfunctie voor de peetouderprojecten een nieuwe invulling. Father Francis heeft deze functie 6 jaar waargenomen en wij zijn hem zeer dankbaar voor de uiterst correcte manier waarop hij ons informeerde en de belangen van de kinderen steeds voorop stelde. Verleden jaar had hij reeds zijn functie als parochiepriester in Toranagallu – waar hij een schitterende nieuwe kerk bouwde – gewisseld voor de directeursfunctie in de Vianney Vidyalaya High School , een school met 1500 leerlingen in Bellary.

Zijn taak wordt nu overgenomen door een coördinatiecomité bestaande uit:

Father Sam Nalan die de financiën beheert

Father O. Vincent die de administratie op zich neemt

Sister Mary die de coördinatie als taak heeft. Zij was sinds vorig jaar reeds de assistente van Father Francis.  

Father O. Vincent is geen onbekende vermits hij de directeur was van de St. John’s school in Maski. In hem hebben we opnieuw een innemende man met een groot hart voor de kinderen en die steeds vlot en correct op onze vragen antwoordde. Naast zijn taak in het coördinatiecomité is hij ook directeur geworden van CCFT Center, Church Farm, in Jawalgera

Dit leidt ons onvermijdelijk naar de laatste vervanging: Father Chinnappa wordt de nieuwe directeur in Maski, bijgestaan door Fr. Chourappa en Brother Nikson.

 Wij zijn er van overtuigd dat de samenwerking met deze nieuwe ploeg prima zal verlopen .

New functions

It is the custom in India that priests get a new assignment after 5 years. We went through this already several times.

This year the coordinating function for the foster parents programs was reassigned. Father Francis assumed this function for 6 years and we are very grateful for the very correct way in which he kept us informed and how he always had the welfare of the children as an absolute priority. Last year he already left his assignment as parish priest in Toranagallu – where he built a beautiful new church – to become director of the Vianney Vidyalaya High School in Bellary with 1500 children.

His assignment as coordinator is taken over by a coordination comity consisting of:

Father Sam Nalan taking care of Financial matters

Father O. Vincent for the administration

Sister Mary for the coordination. Since last year she was the assistant of Father Francis.

Father Vincent is not unknown to us since he was director in the St. John School in Maski. With him we have again an engaged person with a great hart for the children and very correct in his relation to our project. On top of this new function he also became director of the CCFT Center, Church Farm, in Jawalgera.

Which means automatically that Maski has a new team: Father Chinnappa is the new director and he is assisted by Fr. Chourappa and Brother Nikson.

We are confident that we will have a very good working relation with those new teams.
