Father Quadras India vzw

Een toevallige ontmoeting tussen Father Santan Quadras en Berit Grahl betekent de start van het project Ankura Gnanodaya.

Er zijn reeds 24 peetkinderen, nu ook jongens, in het project.

Eerste peetouderavond met als resultaat: 86 kinderen krijgen peetouders.

Eerste bezoek van Berit Grahl aan het India project. Eerste steenlegging van de MPH (Multi-Purpose Hall) in Maski. Nu al 124 gelukkige kinderen.

Father Santan Quadras wordt na beëindiging van de MPH overgeplaatst naar Harapur, 14 km ten zuiden van Maski. Het project steunt nu al 167 kinderen.

Berit Grahl’s tweede bezoek aan India. Eerste zending van 300 kg tweedehandskleding. De MPH wordt door Berit plechtig geopend.

Vierde peetouderavond met 102 peetouders. Er zijn nu al bijna 300 gesponsorde kinderen.

Tweede zending tweedehandskleding (+/- 400 kg). Missiepost Harapur is voltooid. Er wordt ook een volledig drinkwaterproject opgestart.

Derde zending tweedehandskleding (600 kg). Dank zij de gulle gift van een peetouder kan er zowel in Maski als in Harapur een speeltuin gebouwd worden die tegen het einde van het jaar klaar zal zijn. We tellen nu al 360 kinderen.

Derde reis van Berit Grahl naar Indië om de kinderen te filmen en te fotograferen.

Bezoek van Father Santan Quadras aan België gedurende één maand teneinde nieuwe kontakten te leggen om een MPH in Harapur te kunnen bouwen. Er word 124 kg speelgoed verzameld voor de kinderen ginds.

Grote peetouderavond (123 peetouders). Benefiet theatershow “Nonsens 2”.

860 kg kleding en dekens worden voor de laatste maal verzonden dank zij Wereldmissiehulp en Indiawerking Wanakam.

In november komt Father Santan Quadras (45 j.) door een tragisch auto-ongeval in Indië om het leven.

Er worden nu 398 kinderen gesponsord. De FSMH (Father Santan Memorial Hall) in Harapur is voor 85% voltooid dankzij de Missiekring van O.L. Vrouw van Smarten te Merksem en talrijke privé-giften.

Father Santan Quadras wordt opgevolgd door Father Arokianathan in Harapur en Father Marc Moras in Maski. Er komen verschillende nieuwe lijsthouders bij.

In maart wordt een benefiet toneelstuk opgevoerd “De twee maagden”. Er wordt een zesde peetouderavond georganiseerd.

In november vertrekt Berit Grahl samen met drie peetouders naar Indië. Tot 17 december zijn ze er te gast bij Father Marc Moras en Father Arokianathan die met hen de missies en verschillende dorpen bezoeken. Overal krijgen ze een zeer warm en enthousiast welkom door de kinderen en hun ouders.

In april wordt een benefiet voorstelling van “Huwelijksperikelen” georganiseerd. De opbrengst is bestemd voor onze kinderen in Indië.

Op aanvraag van vele peetouders en lijsthouders wordt op 1 oktober de vzw FATHER QUADRAS INDIA opgericht. Deze zal voortaan, geheel apart en onafhankelijk van Ankura Gnanodaya, verder werken doch met hetzelfde doel voor ogen.

In oktober te 20.00 heeft de benefietvoorstelling plaats van het blijspel “Bed in, Bed uit”. De opbrengst hiervan is vanzelfsprekend bestemd voor onze kinderen in Indië.

Op 18 oktober en 17 november heeft een benefietvoorstelling plaats door het Vrijdagavond- en kinderkoor, genaamd "Dozen".

Van 20 november tot 23 december verblijven 5 peetouders in Maski en Harapur.

Bezoek van Father Moras aan België van 15 augustus tot 15 september. Er wordt tweemaal een Indische avond ingericht en op 31 augustus gaat er een zeer geslaagde kunstmarkt door in het Wilgenhof te Merksem.

In februari is er een benefietconcert Al Cantará in de kerk van O.L.Vrouw van Smarten o.l.v. Lieve Mertens.

Op 18 mei overlijdt, op 52 jarige leeftijd, na een kortstondige ziekte de stichtster van ons project Berit Grahl.

In december gaat Margriet Dedroog, voorzitter van Father Quadras India, samen met een peetouder naar India en ontmoeten Father Lourdusamy in Maski en Father Maxim Dias in Harapur. Deze nieuwe priesters zijn de volgende 5 jaar verantwoordelijke voor de missieposten.

Men is begonnen met de bouw van de nieuwe muur rond de missiepost Maski. Deze werken worden door de ouders van de kinderen uitgevoerd zodat zij op die manier ook wat kunnen verdienen.

Benefietavond in april met het toneelstuk “Kortsluiting” in het Augustijner theater in Antwerpen.

De muur rond de missiepost van Maski, die vorig jaar gestart werd, is nu helemaal af. In Harapur komt er meer verlichting voor de veiligheid van de kinderen.

Maart: deelname van Father Quadras India aan Global Fiesta in Merksem.

April – mei: bezoek van Msgr. Lourdusamy in België. Er is een “Meet and Greet Father Lourdusamy” in het Wilgenhof in Merksem met opvoering van liedjes uit de Sound of Music door het St. Franciscuskoor en het kinderkoor de Doremikes.

In november is er het toneelstuk “Slippers” in het Vaarttheater in Schoten.

Mei: benefietvoorstelling “Dag lieve Juffrouw Lente”, optreden van St. Franciscuskoor met een selectie van liederen van Armand Preud’homme en bekende operakoren uit Carmen, La Traviata, Nabucco, de Parelvissers, enz. Het kinderkoor “De Doremiekes” zorgt voor een modern optreden met zang en dans.

In december volgt het toneelstuk “Waar de ster bleef stille staan” van Felix Timmermans in het Vaarttheater in Schoten.

Januari – februari: peetouders bezoeken de missieposten Maski en Harapur.

September: benefiet namiddag “Merksem zingt voor India”, gezellige namiddag in het Wilgenhof met samenzang van bekende liedjes met muzikale begeleiding. Aansluitend broodmaaltijd.

In de missies worden herstellings- en veiligheidswerken uitgevoerd.

Father Francis wordt door de bisschop van Ballari aangeduid als coördinator van de peetouderprojecten in het bisdom Ballari.

November: “Salamat Makan” een Indisch getint diner in het Wilgenhof. De maaltijd wordt door een vrijwillige kookploeg – waaronder verschillende peetouders – bereid.

December: benefietvoorstelling door het Augustijnertheater van het toneelstuk “Ziekelijk” in zaal Leftbanq op Linkeroever. De sneeuw en het gure weer konden de trouwe fans niet thuis houden.

In de missies wordt gewerkt aan de infrastructuur zodat minder last van de veelvuldige stroomuitvallen wordt ondervonden.

November: benefiet – kaas & wijnnamiddag in zaal Wilgenhof te Merksem. Peetouders brengen er ook verslag uit van hun bezoek aan de missieposten van 27 oktober - 10 november.

In de missies: dit jaar wordt er gezorgd voor de beveiliging van het internaat/kosthuis voor de kinderen. Dit om hen ’s nachts te beschermen tegen dieren en ongewenst bezoek! Ook wordt er een sanitaire blok geplaatst.

Juni: het nieuwe dak van de MPH in Maski is klaar voor de aanvang van het nieuwe schooljaar. Het werd volledig door Father Quadras India gesponsord.

November: benefietnamiddag met taarten gebakken door de peetouders. Respons is groter dan verwacht en het resultaat is schitterend.

November: benefiet onder het motto “Father Quadras has got talent” met optredens van peetouders, kinderen en vrienden van peetouders.

Eind december: vertrek van 2 bestuursleden voor een bezoek aan de kinderen en families in India.

Maart: ‘India in woord en beeld’ een reisverslag over het bezoek van de bestuursleden aan de verschillende missieposten.

November: peetouderdag: “KOMEN ETEN”, een heerlijke Indiase maaltijd, klaar gemaakt door verschillende peetouders.

Dit jaar kon gezorgd worden voor verlichting op zonne-energie en een systeem dat zorgt voor permanente stroomvoorziening.

Peetouderdag in september: “Father Quadras India proeft”. Er wordt geproefd van India: hapjes klaargemaakt door Indische vrijwilligers, dans, henna.

Voor de veiligheid van de kinderen heeft de overheid alle scholen verplicht om een CCV (closed circuit video) te installeren. Hieraan heeft het project een steentje kunnen bijdragen.

Mei: ‘Quiz me to school’. Een familiequiz waaraan 14 ploegen deelnamen. Wegens het enthousiaste onthaal zetten we de quiz volgend jaar weer op het programma.

Op 18 september gaat hij voor in een eucharistieviering in de kerk van O.L. Vrouw van Smarten, gevolgd door een ‘Meet & Greet Father Francis’ in het Wilgenhof.

20 september: bezoek aan De Es, een middelbare Steinerschool in Berchem, waar Father Francis de leerlingen toespreekt en uitlegt wat Father Quadras India bereikt in India. De opbrengst van een actie door de school werd geschonken om het project te steunen.

Dit jaar konden we zorgen voor waterzuiveringsinstallaties in 2 scholen en bijdragen voor meisjes in Ballari.

Mei: 2de ‘Quiz me to school’ met een deelname van 23 ploegen.

Inmiddels heeft Father Vincent de coördinatie van de projecten overgenomen, van Father Francis.

Oktober vertrekken enkele bestuursleden voor de derde keer naar India om daar de verschillende missieposten te bezoeken. Het project sponsort ondertussen ook kinderen in Ballari en Kamalapur.

November ‘Namasté – Eet je mee?’ Wederom zorgden enkele kookvaders voor een heerlijke maaltijd met een Indisch tintje. Na het eten werd verslag uitgebracht van het bezoek aan India.

10 maart: 3de ‘Quiz me to school’. Ook deze keer weer een succes met 23 ploegen.

NB: alle bezoeken aan India zijn steeds volledig op eigen kosten. Er worden geen fondsen van Father Quadras India gebruikt – noch in België noch in India – om de ontstane onkosten te vergoeden.

First foster parent evening results in 86 children getting a foster parent!

Berit Grahl’s first visit to the India project. The first stone of the Multi-Purpose Hall is laid in Maski. Already 124 happy children!

After completion of the MPH Father Santan Quadras is transferred to Harapur, 14 km south of Maski. Now the project supports already 167 children.

Berit Grahl’s second visit to India. 300 kg of second-hand clothes are send to India. The MPH is officially inaugurated by Berit.

4^th foster parent evening with 102 foster parents. Nearly 300 children are in the project.

Mission Harapur is completed. A totally new drink water project is started.

Thanks to a generous donation from a foster parent a little playground can be installed in both Maski and Harapur, which will be finished by the end of the year.

Berit Grahl goes to India for the 3^rd time to film and take pictures of the children.

Father Santan Quadras visits Belgium during 1 month to make contacts and collect money to be able to build a MPH in Harapur. 124 kg of toys are collected for the children in the missions.

A last shipment of 860 kg of clothes and blankets is made possible thanks to World Mission Help and India organisation Wanakam.

On the 16^th of October Father Quadras (45 years old) gets killed in a tragic car accident.

398 children are now sponsored! The FSMH (Father Santan Memorial Hall) in Harapur is completed for 85%, thanks to the Mission group Onze Lieve Vrouw van Smarten in Merksem and several personal gifts.

Father Santan Quadras is succeeded by Father Arokianathan in Harapur and Father Marc Moras in Maski.

In March there is a fundraising play and a 6^th foster parent meeting is organised.

In November Berit Grahl and 3 foster parents visit India. They are the guests of Father Marc Moras and Father Arokianathan and visit the missions and several villages. They all get a very warm welcome by the children and their parents.

On demand of several foster parents and list holders the non-profit organisation Father Quadras India is installed. This organisation, totally separate and independent from Ankura Gnanodaya, will continue the same work with the same aim!

To raise some money a comedy takes place in October. The benefit is of course for ‘our’ children in India.

October - November there is a performance by 2 choirs of children and youngsters.

Five foster parents are staying 1 month in Maski and Harapur.

Father Moras visits Belgium from August 15 till September 15.

An Indian evening is organised twice and on the 31^st of August a very successful art market is organised in Wilgenhof, Merksem.

After a short illness the founder of the project Berit Grahl dies at the age of 52.

In December Margriet Dedroog, chairman of Father Quadras India, and a foster parent visit India and meet Father Lourdusamy in Maski and Father Maxim Dias in Harapur. These new Fathers who will take care of the missions for the next five years.

Works have started to build a protective wall around the mission in Maski. Those works are carried out by the parents of the children so that they can earn some additional money.

In April there is a fundraising play in the Augustijner Theater in Antwerp.

The wall around the mission in Maski, which was started last year, is now completed. In Harapur additional lighting has been installed for the safety of the children.

March: Father Quadras India is present at the Global Fiesta in Merksem.

April – May: Father Lourdusamy visits Belgium. There is a “Meet and Greet Father Lourdusamy” in Wilgenhof, Merksem with the performance of the choir of St. Franciscus andthe children choir “Doremikes”.

In May there is a performance by the Sint Franciscus choir with a selection of songs of Armand Preud’homme and of famous opera choirs. The children choir ‘Doremikes’ sings and dances.

December closes the year with Christmas play in Vaarttheater in Schoten.

January – February some foster parents visit the missions.

September: fund raising event “Merksem sings for India”. A very nice afternoon where famous songs are sung with musical accompaniment. Afterwards there is a bread meal.

Father Francis is appointed by the bishop as coordinator for all foster parent project is the Ballari diocese.

November: Indian dinner “Salamat Makan” at the Wilgenhof. The meal is prepared by volunteers, several of them are foster parents.

December: tragi-comedy performed by Augustijnertheater. The bare winter conditions can’t keep the fans home.

In the missions the infrastructure is improved to avoid that the electric current falls out.

November: foster parent meeting with cheese and wine. Foster parents also report on their visit to Maski and Harapur from October 27 – November 10!

This year safety works are done in the boarding to protect the children for animals and intruders. Also a sanitary bloc is installed.

June: Thanks to the gifts of many foster parents and sponsors the roof of the MPH in Maski is completely renewed.

November: meeting with foster parents. Foster parents were asked to make cake or pie. What a result!

November: 'Father Quadras has got talent'. Foster parent meeting with performances of foster parents, children and friends.

End of December: 2 members of the board visit children and families in India .

March: ‘India in words and pictures’ a report by the board members on their visit to the missions.

November: foster parents day “Come and eat” a delicious Indian meal prepared by several foster parents.

This year it was possible to take care of solar energy lighting as well as a system that ensures permanent power availability.

Foster parent day in September: “Father Quadras India tastes”. Dishes prepared by Indian volunteers, dances and henna.

To improve the security of the children the Indian Government has imposed the installation of CCV (closed circuit video) in all schools. Our project could participate in the costs of this installation.

May: “Quiz me to school” – a family quiz with the participation of teams. Because of the enthusiastic reactions a second edition is planned for next year.

September: Father Francis visits Belgium. On the 18^th he leads the mass in O.L. Vrouw van Smarten and then meets with foster parents during a “Meet and greet”.

On the 20^th he visits “De Es” a Steiner high school in Berchem where he meets with the students and tells them what Father Quadras achieves in India. An event organised afterwards by the school results in a gift to the project.

This year it was possible to fund water purification systems for 2 schools and support the costs of a girls school in Ballari.

May: second edition of “Quiz me to school” with 23 teams participating.

Meanwhile Father Vincent has taken over the coordination of the projects from Father Francis.

October: board members visit India for the third time to meet the new fathers and new mission posts. The project now also sponsors children in Ballari and Kamalapur.

November: once again some foster parents have prepared a delicious meal with Indian accents. After the meal the board members report on their visit to India.

March: third edition of “Quiz me to school” and again 23 teams participate/

Planned in October: a cheese and wine evening for the foster parents and friends of the project.

PS: all visits to India are always at own expense. No funds of Father Quadras India are used – either in Belgium or in India – to compensate the costs incurred for or during the trip.
