The Man On The Flying Trapeze
    Composer(s): George Leybourne
    Performer(s): Walter O'Keefe
    and multiple other artists

Once I was happy, but now I'm forlorn
Like an old coat that is tattered and torn
Left on this world to fret and to mourn
Betrayed by a maid in her teens

The girl that I loved she was handsome
I tried all I knew her to please
But I could not please her one quarter so well
As the man upon the trapeze

He'd fly through the air with the greatest of ease
That daring young man on the flying trapeze
His movements were graceful, all girls he could please
And my love he purloined away

This young man by name was Signor Bona Slang
Tall, big and handsome, as well made as Chang
Where'er he appeared the hall loudly rang
With ovation from all people there

He'd smile from the bar on the people below
And one night he smiled on my love
She wink'd back at him and she shouted "Bravo"
As he hung by his nose up above

Her father and mother were both on my side
And very hard tried to make her my bride
Her father he sighed, and her mother she cried
To see her throw herself away

'Twas all no avail, she went there every night
And would throw him bouquets on the stage
Which caused him to meet her; how he ran me down
To tell you would take a whole page

One night I as usual went to her dear home
Found there her father and mother alone
I asked for my love, and soon they made known
To my horror that she'd run away

She'd packed up her box and eloped in the night
With him, with the greatest of ease
From two stories high he had lowered her down
To the ground on his flying trapeze

Some months after this I went to the Hall
Was greatly surprised to see on the wall
A bill in red letters, which did my heart gall
That she was appearing with him

He'd taught her gymnastics and dressed her in tights
To help him live at his ease
And made her assume a masculine name
And now she goes on the trapeze

She'd fly through the air with the greatest of ease
You'd think her the man young man on the flying trapeze
Her movements were graceful, all girls she could please
And that was the end of my love

Klik op de afbeelding om de link te volgen

Chick-A-Boom (Don't Ya Jes' Love It) Composer(s): Richard Delvy - Janis Gwin Performer(s): Daddy Dewdrop

Last night I had a crazy dream
About a chick in a black bikini
Oh she looked so good she couldn't be real
So she must be a magic genie
But then she disappeared around a corner
All I saw were three doors and the top of her bikini
I made it through the first door there was a party going on
I asked about the chick but what they said was this

    Chick-a-boom chick-a-boom don't ya jes' love it
    Chick-a-boom chick-a-boom don't ya jes' love it
    Chick-a-boom chick-a-boom don't ya jes' love it
    Chick-a-boom chick-a-boom-boom-boom

    I found the bottom half
    Behind the second door
Which took me to Africa I presume
This really far out cat was screaming half crazy
"Bomp boom a loo bom a long bam boo"
I said hey man cut that jive
And tell me where the chick went
But he looked at me as pleased as could be
And said a lotta words but I wonder what he meant

    Chick-a-boom chick-a-boom don't ya jes' love it
    Chick-a-boom chick-a-boom don't ya jes' love it
    Chick-a-boom chick-a-boom don't ya jes' love it
    Chick-a-boom chick-a-boom-boom-boom

Ah don't ya jes' love it
Ooh don't ya jes' love it
Don't ya love it don't ya love it
Oh yeah don't ya love jes' it
Don't ya jes' love it now

I opened the third door and there she was
And She whispered so sexy oh ooh
I tried to do the same and impress her with my style
But why this chick would never know

    Chick-a-boom chick-a-boom don't ya jes' love it
    Chick-a-boom chick-a-boom don't ya jes' love it
    Chick-a-boom chick-a-boom don't ya jes' love it
    Chick-a-boom chick-a-boom-boom-boom

    Don't ya know it

    Chick-a-boom chick-a-boom don't ya jes' love it
    Chick-a-boom chick-a-boom don't ya jes' love it
    Chick-a-boom chick-a-boom don't ya jes' love it
    Chick-a-boom chick-a-boom-boom-boom

The Man In The Moon Is A Lady
    Composer(s): Jerry Herman
    Performer(s): Bea Arthur

    Mame:
Oh, Vera, I can't wait to hear that Overture
    Tell me about the show!

    Vera:
Well, well, it's this terribly modern operetta about a lady astronomer
who make a universe shaking discovery

    Oooooh Aaaaaaaaah...

    Vera:
I have a little secret I'd like to impart
That I hope doesn't give you too much of a start
Tho' it's shocking, it's completely true
I know it isn't gossip, or rumor, of course
For I've had it from quite a reliable source
And I'd like to pass it on to you

The man in the moon is a lady
A lady in lipstick and curls
The cow that jumped ovah cried
    "Jumpin' Jehovah
I think it's just one of the girls"
She winks at the stars from her bed of green cheese
    That isn't a night-gown
    It's a Saturn chemise
Oh, her friends are the stars and the planets
She sends the Big Dipper a kiss
    So don't ever offend her
    Remember her gender
The man in the moon is a miss

Chick, chick, chick, chick, chicken, lay a little egg for me Chick, chick, chick, chick, chicken, I want one for my tea Oh, I haven't had an egg since Easter (breakfast), and now it's half past three So, chick, chick, chick, chicken, lay a little egg for me

    Composer(s): Jim Post
    Performer(s): Friend & Lover;
    Dai Bass; Strawberry Zots

I think it's so groovy now
That people are finally getting together
I thinks it's so wonderful and how
That people are finally getting together
    Reach out in the darkness
    Reach out in the darkness
    Reach out in the darkness
And you may find a friend

I knew a man that I did not care for
And then one day this man gave me a call
We sat and talked about things on our mind
And now this man he is a friend of mine
    Don't be afraid of love
Don't be afraid, don't be afraid to love
    Everybody needs a little love
    Everybody needs somebody
That they can be thinking of

The Man In The Little White Suit
    Composer(s): Dallas Frazier
    Performer(s): Charlie Walker

    Smokin' cigarettes by the carton
    Drinkin' coffee by the pound
Slowly pullin' my hair out by the roots
Actin' funny, lookin' in a mirror
    Makin' faces like a clown
    Just sittin' here waitin' for
The man in the little white suit

Everybody told me you would drive me crazy
And they said you'd have me barkin' like a hound
But a fool in love ain't got the sense to listen
Now my barkin' is the gossip of the town

    Smokin' cigarettes by the carton
    Drinkin' coffee by the pound
Slowly pullin' my hair out by the roots
Actin' funny, lookin' in a mirror
    Making faces like a clown
    Just sittin' here waitin' for
The man in the little white suit

Just a crazy fool would believe the things you told me
I hate to say the fool is you know who
I'd sooner be the victim of a hangin'
Then be the fool I am because of you

    Smokin' cigarettes by the carton
    Drinkin' coffee by the pound
Slowly pullin' my hair out by the roots
Actin' funny, lookin' in a mirror
    Making faces like a clown
    Just sittin' here waitin' for
The man in the little white suit

Yeah, I'm sittin' here waitin' for the man in the little white suit

Chicago's alright to visit, but please don't hang around You'll find the smooth chicks and high slicks and boy, all those mellow fellows But when your bankroll is gone, you're just another chump, that's dropped in town! My first night in Chicago, my friends really treated me fine Then overnight, they all changed like daylight saving time And ev'rything I wanted, I had to lay my money down on the line I said, "Baby, you're so lovely, your eyes shine like the stars above you wear number three shoes, yes, and wear number five gloves" She said, "It's money I need, baby, I don't need love!" I said, "I could make you love me darlin', baby, I just bet I could you can learn to love me baby, I know you could" She says, "Lay your money down, babe, and make your bettin' good!" I said, "Let's go to New York, baby I'll buy you anything you lack I will give you plenty money, gonna buy you a nineteen forty-two Cadillac!" She says, "I'm sorry, this fine round body will be here when you get back!"

    Reach Out For Me
    Composer(s): Burt Bacharach; Hal David
    Performer(s): Dionne Warwick;
    and various other artists

When you go through a day
And the things that people say
They make you feel so small
    They make you feel that
Your heart will just never stop aching
And when you just can't accept the abuse you are taking
    Darlin' reach out for me

Don't you worry I'll see you through
You just have to reach out for me
I'll be there and I'll confort you
    Oh yes I will
    Comfort you and love you
    How I'm gonna love you

    When good friends prove untrue
And the things they do to you
They make you feel so bad
    They make you feel that
You haven't a reason for living
    So when you feel you
Could throw in the towel and just given in
    Darlin' reach out for me

Late in the evening, out on the square
A man in a raincoat, standing there
We met by the lamp where the newsboy cried
He stole my heart with his laughing eyes
    Mmmmm

He took me dancing, dancing 'til dawn
No happier couple had ever been born
I felt lke a queen and he was my king
He borrowed some money to buy me a ring
    Mmmmm

But I'm still alone. Now the cards are all down
He's taken my money and skipped out of town
Now when I pass the place where we met
I'm wondering if I could forgive and forget
    Mmmmm

    I smile like Chicago
    She laughs like the breeze
I try so hard to charm her
    With minor mysteries
    I collide with her softness
    With whispers and pleas
    Echoes of the movements
    Delicate obscenties

It's a one quarter rain dance
    Half of it's prayer
    It's a simplest romance
    Rattles high in the air
    She's the gentlest pretender
    I'm a clown on a spree
    Still it's sweet to remember
    The way it might be

    I smile like Chicago

Make this world a better place
    If you can
    Reach out and touch

Make this world a better place

    (Just try)
Take a little time out of your busy day
    To give encouragement
To someone who's lost the way
    (Just try)
Or would I be talking to a stone
    If I asked you
To share a problem that's not your own
We can change things if we start giving
    Why don't you

    Reach out and touch
    Somebody's hand

    Reach out and touch
    Somebody's hand

    And he's down
Remember his shoes could fit your feet
    (Just try)
Try a little kindness you'll see
It's something that comes very naturally
We can change things if we start giving

Klik op de afbeelding om de link te volgen

The Man I Used To Be
    Composer(s): Richard Rodgers - Hammerstein
    Performer(s): Samuel Ramey

The man I used to be, a happy man was he
And aimless as a leaf in a gale
Whatever has become of that light-hearted bum
Who thought he had the world by the tail
The man I used to be, his life was gay and free
And aimless as a cloud in the sky
He thought he knew the game, then along came a dame
Who turned him into some other guy

I’ve got ambition now, I’ve got a mission now
I aim to reach the top of the tree
That other fly-by-night who looked so high by night
Has vanished like a sail on the sea
And I’ll never find that easy-living,
Easy-taking, easy-giving fellow that I used to call me
You can never find the man you used to be

    You’ve changed bub, you’ve changed a lot
And the gang you used to go with all concur
You’ve changed bub, you’re not yourself
If this is yourself, you’re not the man you were

The man I used to be would go to sleep at three
Or four a.m. or seven or nine
And when his weary head wasn’t near any bed
A table or chair would be fine
A man without a goal, a sort of friendly soul
He liked to play the role of a host
To any thirsty pal or a casual gal
Who’d stay to cook his coffee and toast

He was a ne’er-do-well who wouldn’t dare do well
He never saw the top of a tree
But kinda sad I was to be the cad I was
Dissolving like a sail on the sea
And I’ll never find that fatalistic,
Free-and-easy egotistic optimist who used to be me
You can never find the man you used to be

Chicago Composer(s): Graham Nash First release by: Graham Nash - 1971

Well your brother's bound and gagged
And they've chained him to a chair
Won't you please come to Chicago
    Just to sing
In a land that's known as freedom
How can such a thing be fair
Won't you please come to Chicago
    Show your face

    We can change the world
    Re-arrange the world
It's dying - to get better

    Politicians sit yourself down
    There's nothing for you here
Won't you please come to Chicago
    For a ride

Don't ask Jack to help you
Cause he'll turn the other ear
Won't you please come to Chicago
For the help that we can bring

    We can change the world
    Re-arrange the world
It's dying - if you believe in justice
It's dying - if you believe in freedom
It's dying - let a man rule his own life
It's dying - rules and regulations, who needs them
    Throw 'em out the door

    Somehow people must be free
I hope the day comes soon
Won't you please come to Chicago
    Show your face

From the bottom of the ocean
To the mountains of the moon
Won't you please come to Chicago
No one else can take your place

    We can change the world
    Re-arrange the world
It's dying - if you believe in justice
It's dying - if you believe in freedom
It's dying - let a man rule his own life
It's dying - rules and regulations, who needs them
    Throw 'em out the door

    The Man I Love
((Dutch Version: Man Van Mijn Hart (Greetje Kauffeld) - 1997))
Composer(s): George Gershwin - Ira Gershwin
First performance by: Fred & Adele Astaire - 1924
    Covered by multiple other artists

When the mellow moon begins to beam
Every night I dream a little dream
And of course Prince Charming is the theme
    The he, for me
Although I realize as well as you
It is seldom that a dream comes true
    To me it's clear
    That he'll appear

Some day he'll come along, the man I love
And he'll be big and strong, the man I love
And when he comes my way
I'll do my best to make him stay

He'll look at me and smile, I'll understand
And in a little while, he'll take my hand
    And though it seems absurd
I know we both won't say a word

Maybe I shall meet him Sunday
    Maybe Monday, maybe not
Still I'm sure to meet him one day
Maybe Tuesday will be my good news day

He'll build a little home just meant for two
From which I'll never roam, who would? would you?
    And so, all else above
I'm waiting for the man I love

    Chicago (That Toddling Town)
    Composer(s): Fred Fisher
First release by: The Bar Harbor Society Orchestra - 1922
    Covered by multiple other artists

I got the surprise, the surprise of my life
I had to stop and stare
I saw a man dancing with his own wife
    And you'll never guess where...

Chicago, Chicago -- that toddlin' town, that toddlin' town
Chicago, Chicago -- I'll show you around -- I love it
Betcha bottom dollar you'll lose your blues
    In Chicago, Chicago
The town that Billy Sunday could not shut down

On State Street, that great street
I just want to stay, I just want to stay
They do things they don't do on Broadway, say
They have the time, the time of their life
I saw a man who danced with his wife
In Chicago ... Chicago ... Chicago, Chicago
Free and easy town, brassy, breezy town
    Chicago ... Chicago
Let me cool my heels right down at Marshall Field
    Come and walk with
Along the lake, to the drake
Hollar and hoot, all through the loop
Shout out now to Mrs. O'Leary's cow
    No she-she, life is peachy
Chicago ... we'll meet at the Pump Room Ambassador East
    To say the least
On shishkabob and breast of squab we will feed and get free
Don't tell me sin is rampid and right
Think of that man who danced with his wife
    In Chicago ... Chicago ...
I feel sympathy for that wonderful, windy town!

    Reach for tomorrow
    today belongs to the past
the golden hopes of you yesterdays
can all be yours at last

    Reach for tomorrow
and keep your head in the sky
    you may get hurt
    in a thousand ways
but give it one more try

    Have no regret about
    forget about
    the chances you missed
    in days to come
    I know there's something
    better than this

    Reach for tomorrow
and keep your dreams ever new
no matter how many times it seems
that dreams are not for you

    Reach for tomorrow
    And make them all come...true

    Man From Snowy River
    Composer(s): A.B. Paterson
    Performer(s): Slim Dusty

There was movement at the station, for the word had passed around
That the colt from old Regret had got away
And had joined the wild bush horses -- he was worth a thousand pound
So all the cracks had gathered to the fray
All the tried and noted riders from the stations near and far
Had mustered at the homestead overnight
For the bushmen love hard riding where the wild bush horses are
And the stock-horse snuffs the battle with delight

There was Harrison, who made his pile when Pardon won the cup
The old man with his hair as white as snow
But few could ride beside him when his blood was fairly up
He would go wherever horse and man could go
And Clancy of the Overflow came down to lend a hand
No better horseman ever held the reins
For never horse could throw him while the saddle-girths would stand
He learnt to ride while droving on the plains

And one was there, a stripling on a small and weedy beast
He was something like a racehorse undersized
With a touch of Timor pony -- three parts thoroughbred at least
And such as are by mountain horsemen prized
He was hard and tough and wiry -- just the sort that won't say die
There was courage in his quick impatient tread
And he bore the badge of gameness in his bright and fiery eye
And the proud and lofty carriage of his head

But still so slight and weedy, one would doubt his power to stay
And the old man said, `That horse will never do
For a long and tiring gallop -- lad, you'd better stop away
Those hills are far too rough for such as you'
So he waited sad and wistful -- only Clancy stood his friend
`I think we ought to let him come,' he said
`I warrant he'll be with us when he's wanted at the end
For both his horse and he are mountain bred

`He hails from Snowy River, up by Kosciusko's side
Where the hills are twice as steep and twice as rough
Where a horse's hoofs strike firelight from the flint stones every stride
The man that holds his own is good enough
And the Snowy River riders on the mountains make their home
Where the river runs those giant hills between
I have seen full many horsemen since I first commenced to roam
But nowhere yet such horsemen have I seen'

So he went -- they found the horses by the big mimosa clump
They raced away towards the mountain's brow
And the old man gave his orders, `Boys, go at them from the jump
No use to try for fancy riding now
And, Clancy, you must wheel them, try and wheel them to the right
Ride boldly, lad, and never fear the spills
For never yet was rider that could keep the mob in sight
If once they gain the shelter of those hills'

So Clancy rode to wheel them -- he was racing on the wing
Where the best and boldest riders take their place
And he raced his stock-horse past them, and he made the ranges ring
With the stockwhip, as he met them face to face
Then they halted for a moment, while he swung the dreaded lash
But they saw their well-loved mountain full in view
And they charged beneath the stockwhip with a sharp and sudden dash
And off into the mountain scrub they flew

Then fast the horsemen followed, where the gorges deep and black
Resounded to the thunder of their tread
And the stockwhips woke the echoes, and they fiercely answered back
From cliffs and crags that beetled overhead
And upward, ever upward, the wild horses held their way
Where mountain ash and kurrajong grew wide
And the old man muttered fiercely, `We may bid the mob good day
NO man can hold them down the other side'

When they reached the mountain's summit, even Clancy took a pull
It well might make the boldest hold their breath
The wild hop scrub grew thickly, and the hidden ground was full
Of wombat holes, and any slip was death
But the man from Snowy River let the pony have his head
And he swung his stockwhip round and gave a cheer
And he raced him down the mountain like a torrent down its bed
While the others stood and watched in very fear

He sent the flint stones flying, but the pony kept his feet
He cleared the fallen timber in his stride
And the man from Snowy River never shifted in his seat
It was grand to see that mountain horseman ride
Through the stringy barks and saplings, on the rough and broken ground
Down the hillside at a racing pace he went
And he never drew the bridle till he landed safe and sound
At the bottom of that terrible descent

He was right among the horses as they climbed the further hill
And the watchers on the mountain standing mute
Saw him ply the stockwhip fiercely, he was right among them still
As he raced across the clearing in pursuit
Then they lost him for a moment, where two mountain gullies met
In the ranges, but a final glimpse reveals
On a dim and distant hillside the wild horses racing yet
With the man from Snowy River at their heels

And he ran them single-handed till their sides were white with foam
He followed like a bloodhound on their track
Till they halted cowed and beaten, then he turned their heads for home
And alone and unassisted brought them back
But his hardy mountain pony he could scarcely raise a trot
He was blood from hip to shoulder from the spur
But his pluck was still undaunted, and his courage fiery hot
For never yet was mountain horse a cur

And down by Kosciusko, where the pine-clad ridges raise
Their torn and rugged battlements on high
Where the air is clear as crystal, and the white stars fairly blaze
At midnight in the cold and frosty sky
And where around the Overflow the reedbeds sweep and sway
To the breezes, and the rolling plains are wide
The man from Snowy River is a household word to-day
And the stockmen tell the story of his ride

Chi ((Adapted from: Qui (Charles Aznavour) - 1963)) Composer(s): Charles Aznavour Performer(s): Charles Aznavour - 1963/1964

Versions In Other Languages: 1967 - Quien (Charles Aznavour) 1968 - Who (Will Take My Place) (Dusty Springfield)

    Chi ti aprira' le labbra
    E nel possederti ti sorprendera'
    Perche' ti rinnovi
    E con lui tu trovi
    Orizzonti nuovi di felicita'?

    Chi rubera' il mio posto
    Pur nel piu' nascosto
    Sogno che tu fai
    Quando, dominata
    Nuovamente amata
    Con una risata
    Mi distruggerai?

    Chi tendera' la mano
    In cui mi annullero'?
    Chi ti stara' vicino
    Quando non ci saro'?
    Chi della tua dolcezza
    Con una carezza approfittera'
E con un addio coprira' l'oblio
    Quello che fu mio
    Quando me ne andro'?

E' sempre viva tra di noi
    Un'assurda felicita'
    Nonostante lo scarto fra
    Le nostre eta'
Ma fino a quando me ne andro'
    E un altro ti contemplera'
    Una domanda i miei pensieri
    Assillera'

    Chi senza che protesti
    Rifara' quei gesti
    Riservati a me
    Quando tu mi attendi
    Quando tu mi prendi
    Palpiti e ti tendi nell'offriti a me?

    Chi scoprira' le risa
    La follia improvvisa
    E la serieta'
    E berra' l'essenza
    Della tua presenza
    Che la mia partenza
    Gli concedera'?

    Chi lo potrebbe dire?
    Chi mai lo scoprira'?
    E io devo soffrire
    Per chi ti prendera'
    Con un nuovo "ti amo"
    E con quel "ti amo"
    Che ti stordira'
    Nel dormirti accanto
Dopo che avrai pianto di felicita'
    Mi riseppellira'
