Hot Rod Race No.4 (aka The Guy In The Mercury) Composer(s): George Wilson Performer(s): Arkie Shibley
You've heard'a the guy an' his brother Joe who took off in their Ford from San Pedro an' how they raced through deserts wide with a Mercury that stayed right by their side
Now I'm the guy who was in that Merc an' I'm callin' myself all kind of a jerk for ever tryin' that kind've a race I might have known I'd lose my face
But the road was straight 'n' the road was wide 'n' me 'n' that Ford stayed side by side I stuck to him through thick an' thin but I knew all the time I's riskin' my skin
When the hopped-up Model-A blew a'past I wondered then how long it would last but I didn't have too long to wait to see what would happen, to learn my fate
The cop's heads, who spun in fright got on their bikes an' took to flight They came up behind me with a siren blast I knew right then my fun had passed
The guy in the Ford kept racin' on he was tryin' to catch that son-of-a-gun who was drivin' that hot rod Model-A but I didn't have a thing to say
Now I'm sittin' here alone in the klink with plenty of time to wonder and think I pace the floor, I frume an' fret I don't even have a cigarette
Oh, why did I ever get in that race to end up here in this awful place? Should have had more sense, is all I can say don't ever race with a kid in a hopped-up Model-A
A Little On The Lonely Side Composer(s): Frank Weldon - Dick Robertson - James Cavanaugh Performer(s): Harry Kaye and multiple other artists
Im a little on the lonely A little on the lonely side I keep thinking of you only And wishing you were by my side You know my dear when youre not here Theres no one to romance with So if Im seen with someone else Its just someone to dance with Every letter that you send me I read a dozen times or more Any wonder that I love you more and more Oh how I miss your tender kiss And long to hold you tight Im a little on the lonely side tonight
Hot Rod Race No.3 (aka Arkie Meets The Judge) Composer(s): Arkie Shibley; Leon Kelley; Jackie Hayes Performer(s): Arkie Shibley
Now me and my wife and my brother Joe were home asleep in San Pedro when the doorbell ring and I run to the door there stood a cop, and he sure was sore
"You're under arrest, you're goin' to the klink for wreckless drivin' and raisin' such a stink So grab your hat and hurry, too the judge wants to have a little talk with you"
He put me in the wagon and locked the door I thought I'd never see my wife no more The cops finally got me but what the heck me and the Mercury stayed neck-and-neck
We got to the station and he took me inside the cop he told me it was the end of the ride We went down the hall and opened the door and there was the judge in the middle of the floor
He took my driver license and all my money too and said "six months I'm a-givin' to you" But I don't care, but what the heck me and that Mercury stayed neck-and-neck
Now I'm a-sittin' in my cell, all broken-hearted and the six-months has barely started But I'm not the only one that's feelin' blue 'cause the guy that drove the Mercury is in here too
The cops is still looking both night and day for the kid in the hopped-up Model-A They say they'll catch him but I don't think it's so 'cause that Model-A can fairly go
Now I'll be outta here in some of these days 'n' I'll hunt the kid in the Model-A And he'll be the one that'll hafta pray 'cause I'm gonna get me a hopped-up Model-A
A Little Night Dancin' Composer(s): John Cougar Mellencamp Performer(s): John Cougar Mellencamp
Well west of Zion They got a hot spot brewing Handcuffs and kisses For the people who live there
Guitar player's playing Cinderella saying Hey boys get that spoon to my nose And we'll run through the midnight air
Night, night, whoa night dancin' Hey just a little, little, little night dancin' Night, night, whoa night dancin' Hey just a little, little, little night dancin'
Sodom and Gomorah They run the roadhouse They keep everything jumping As the drummer keeps the beat
And it's really something when those kids start bitchin' Yeah it starts me itching As I jump to my feet to go
Night, night, whoa night dancin' Hey just a little, little, little night dancin' Night, night, whoa night dancin' Hey just a little, little, little night dancin'
Night, night, whoa night dancin' Hey just a little, little, little night dancin' Night, night, whoa night dancin' Hey just a little, little, little night dancin'
Hot Rod Race No.2 Composer(s): Arkie Shibley; Leon Kelley; Jackie Hayes Performer(s): Arkie Shibley
Now me and my wife and my brother Joe are back home safe in San Pedro My tires are wore out 'n' my gas is low and my doggone Ford'll just barely go
My twin pipes are busted, I'm really in a rut one carburetors a'leakin and the other one's stuck my overdrive's slippin, it won't stand the pace my oil she's a drippin' outta the busted crankcase
The top is tore 'n' it shore does leak 'n' the springs are stickin' up through the seat The wind blew in and chilled my bride but me and that Mercury stayed side by side
Now she rattles and smokes like an old diesel truck I made it home though, I guess it was luck 'cause my bearings were busted, my radiator too and my fan belt was broke 'bout half in two
My brother's still pale 'n' my wife's still sick my old Ford's nothin' but a wreck but I don't worry for what the heck Me and that Mercury stayed neck-and-neck
A Ford's a good car, and mighty fast too but this one is shot 'n' there's nothin' ta do so I thought it over and here's what I'll do I'm gonna trade it off, now wouldn't you?
The guy that gets it, he's gonna be sore an' he won't like me any more but why should I worry, for what the heck me and that Mercury stayed neck-and-neck
But we had a good race 'n' I'll remember the day that me and that Mercury went out to play an' there's one more thing I'd like to say don't try to beat a kid in a hopped-up Model-A
A Little More Wine Composer(s): Chris Youlden Performer(s): Savoy Brown
Oh, I'd be a rich man if I had all the money I owe But to have that much I oughta' help them sell my soul One and one make two, two and two make four That figure don't drive the rent man from the door
Just got time for a little more wine Just got time for a little more wine
One day I'll see my way to clear up the trouble and strife I'll get a little joy, a little joy in my life I think about the good times, the memories don't come [clear] I feel like I'm goin', I'm goin' just a little down [hill/here?]
I just got time for a little more wine I just got time for a little more wine
But when I do remember the hopes I used to have My face lights up and I crack a little smile When I reach the end of my workin' life I'll sit and say 'I wonder was it all worthwhile?'
I just got time for a little more wine I just got time for a little more wine
But when I do remember the hopes I used to have My face lights up and I crack a little smile When I reach the end of my workin' life I'll sit and say 'I wonder was it all worthwhile?'
Just got time for a little more wine Just got time for a little more wine
Hot Rod Race Composer(s): George Wilson Performer(s): Arkie Shibley; and various other artists
Now me and my wife and my brother Joe took off in my Ford from San Pedro We hadn't much gas 'n' the tires was low but the doggone Ford could really go
Now along about the middle of the night we were rippin' along like white folks might when a Mercury behind he blinked his lights and he honked his horn and he flew outside
We had twin pipes and a Columbia butt you people may think that I'm in a rut but to you folks who don't dig the jive that's two carburetors and an overdrive
We made grease spots outta many good town and left the cops heads spinnin' round 'n' round They wouldn't chase, they'd run and hide but me and that Mercury stayed side by side
Now we were Ford men and we likely knew that we would race until somethin' blew and we thought it over now, wouldn't you?
I looked down at my lovely bride her face was blue, I thought she'd died We left streaks through towns about forty feet wide but me and that Mercury stayed side by side
My brother was pale, he said he was sick he said he was just a nervous wreck But why should I worry, for what the heck me and that Mercury was still neck-and-neck
Now on through the deserts we did glide a-flyin' low and a-flyin' wide me an' that Mercury was a-takin' a ride and we stayed exactly side by side
Now I looked in my mirror and I saw somethin' comin' I thought it was a plane by the way it was a-runnin' It was a-hummin' along at a terrible pace and I knew right then it was the end of the race
When it flew by us, I turned the other way the guy in the Mercury had nothin' to say for it was a kid, in a hopped up Model-A
Little More Love Composer(s): John Farrar Performer(s): Olivia Newton-John
Night is draggin' her feet I wait alone in the heat I know, know that you'll have your way Till you have to go home No's a word I can't say
Cause it gets me nowhere to tell you no And it gets me nowhere to make you go Will a little more love make you start depending Will a little more love bring a happy ending Will a little more love make it right? Will a little more love make it right?
Where, where did my innocence go? How, how was a young girl to know? I'm trapped, trapped in the spell of your eyes In the warmth of your arms In the web of your lies
But it gets me nowhere to tell you no And it gets me nowhere to make you go Will a little more love make you start depending Will a little more love bring a happy ending Will a little more love make it right? Will a little more love make it right?
Hot Rod Lincoln Composer(s): Charlie Ryan; W.S. Stevenson Performer(s): Charlie Ryan; and various other artists
My pappy said "Son, you're gonna drive me to drinkin' if you don't stop drivin' that Hot Rod Lincoln"
Have you heard the story of the hot rod race where the Fords 'n' Lincolns was settin' the pace? That story is true, I'm here to say that I was drivin' that Model-A
It's got a Lincoln motor and it's really souped up that Model-A body makes it look like a pup It's got eight cylinders and uses 'em all got overdrive, just won't stall
With a four-barrel carb and a dual exhaust with 4-11 gears you can really get lost Got safety tubes but I ain't scared the brakes are good, tires fair
Pulled outta San Pedro late one night the moon 'n' the stars was shinin' bright We was drivin' up Grapevine hill passin' cars like they was standin' still
All of a sudden in the wink of an eye Cadillac sedan passed us by I said "Boys that's the mark for me" by then the tailight was all you could see
Now the fellas ribbed me for bein' behind so I thought I'd make the Lincoln unwind Took my foot off the gas'n'man alive I shoved it on down into overdrive
Wound it up to a hunderd an' ten my speedometer said that I hit top end My foot was glued like lead to the floor that's all there is an' there ain't no more
Now the boys all thought I'd lost my sense them telephone poles looked like a picket fence They said "slow down, I see spots" the lines on the road just looked like dots
Took a corner'n'side-swiped a truck crossed my fingers just for luck My fenders was clickin' the guardrail posts the guy beside me was white as a ghost
Smoke was comin' from outta the back when started t' gain on that Cadillac Knew I could catch him, I thought I could pass don'tcha by then we'd be low on gas
We had flames comin' from outta the side you could feel the tension, man whatta ride I said "look out boys, I got a license to fly" and that Caddy pulled over and let us by
Now all of a sudden she started knockin' down in the dip she started to rock And I looked in the mirror, a red light was blinkin' the cops was after my hot rod Lincoln
They arrested me 'n' they put me in jail 'n they called my pappy to throw my bail 'n he said "son you're gonna drive me ta drinkin' if you don't stop drivin' that hot rod Lincoln
A Little Lovin' Composer(s): Neil Sedaka - Phil Cody Performer(s): Neil Sedaka
Mama raised me to be a man Told me, son ya have to understand Learn to get while the gettin's good And bring it back to the neighborhood
And I swear, I was there, tell me why should I lie I just wanna say, a little lovin' goes a long long way
Uncle Henry and cousin Grace Used to weekend at our place Grace and I would go behind the barn We almost burned the damn thing down
And I swear, I was there, tell me why should I lie I just wanna say, a little lovin' goes a long long way
Oooh! I need your lovin', just a little lovin' I need your lovin', just a little lovin' A little lovin' each and every day A little lovin' goes a long long way, long way...
I knew a woman from New Orleans Her old man used to treat her mean And she would come to me for sympathy Southern comfort and ecstasy
And I swear, I was there, tell me why should I lie I just wanna say, a little lovin' goes a long long way Do it now!
Oooh! I need your lovin', just a little lovin' I need your lovin', just a little lovin' A little lovin' each and every day A little lovin' goes a long long way now
I need your lovin', just a little lovin' I need your lovin', just a little lovin' A little lovin' each and every day A little lovin' goes a long long way
Hot River Composer(s): Carla Bley Performer(s): Nick Mason
Do you long to cavort? Here's a new water sport That you ought to try It's a Fahrenheit dream Hot and covered with steam You won't be bored Do you want to get wet? Are you starting to sweat? Slip over the side Now we're caught in a swell Here's where Heaven and Hell Start to collide
It's slippery and slimy Reach over here and tie me I'm so warm I can hardly move Mother never told me I'd need someone to hold me But where I'm from the rivers are all cold
It's a fisherman's dream Dinner's already steamed And ready to eat When you feel your resolve Is about to dissolve Then stop for a treat In a river of steam Nothing seems too obscene So let down your hair While you drift through a trough Slip your bathing suit off And really get clean
You can do your laundry While your thoughts are wandering And you watch the passing swimmer's poach You don't need no Sterno In Dante's Inferno It's thermohydriatically controlled
You can't stay in too long 'Cause the heat is too strong You're starting to slide Grab ahold of the rope Throw your soap in the boat Climb over the side We can come back for more When we start to get bored There's nothing as wild As a Hot River swim On the volcanic rim
Hot Patootie - Bless My Soul (aka Whatever Happened To Saturday Night?) Composer(s): Richard O'Brien Performer(s): Meat Loaf; and various other artists
Eddie: Whatever happened to Saturday night? When you dressed up sharp and you felt alright It don't seem the same since cosmic light Came into my life, I thought I was divine I used to go for a ride with a chick who'd go And listen to the music on the radio A saxophone was blowing on a Rock and Roll show We climbed in the back seat, really had a good time Hot patootie, bless my soul Really love that Rock and Roll
(Hot patootie, bless my soul) (I really love that Rock and Roll) (Hot patootie, bless my soul) (I really love that Rock and Roll) (Hot patootie, bless my soul) (I really love that Rock and Roll)
Eddie: My head used to swim from the perfume I smelled My hands kinda fumbled with her white plastic belt I'd taste her baby pink lipstick and that's when I'd melt She'd whisper in my ear tonight she really was mine Get back in front and put some hair oil on Buddy Holly was singing his very last song With your arms around your girl, you try to sing along It felt pretty good.....Whoo! Really had a good time Hot patootie, bless my soul Really love that Rock and Roll

A Little Love And Understanding ((French Version: Un Peu D'amour Et D'amitié (by Gilbert Bécaud)) Composer(s): Louis Amade - Gilbert Bécaud - Marcel Stellman Performer(s): Bing Crosby; LadybiRdS
You're on your own And what you need's A little love and understanding, hee-hee-hee A little warmth to tell your soul A gentle bird that softly sings, hee-hee-hee-hee
Each night my voice happens to sneak Through your transistor radio, ho-ho-ho I'm just a secret you can keep And no one ever needs to know
You're in that city far away I'm on the ship way out at sea You got some problems you can't face So leave them behind, any place
For out of sight is out of mind And in time, and in time, and in time, and in time, and in time You'll find peace of mind Ho-ho-kay-ay (okay), good, good
You're room is like a desert isle You often filled with silent tears, hmm-hmm-hmm So grab your coat, put on a smile Go out and buy yourself some cheer, hee-hee-hee-hee Why sit there thinking of the past Recounting empty days gone by, hah-hah-hah When you should make each moment last It isn't hard to do, just try
Drink to the city far away To all the sailors 'way at sea All those problems you can't face So leave them behind, any place
For out of sight is out of mind And in time, and in time, and in time, and in time, and in time You'll find peace of mind O-kay, hm-hm, (okay), good

Who's that knocking on my door It's gotta be a quarter to four Is it you again coming 'round for more Well you can love me tonight if you want But in the morning make sure you're gone I'm talkin' to you Hot legs, wearing me out Hot legs, you can scream and shout Hot legs, are you still in school I love you honey
Gotta most persuasive tongue You promise all kinds of fun But what you don't understand I'm a working man Gonna need a shot of vitamin E By the time you're finished with me I'm talking to you Hot legs, you're an alley cat Hot legs, you scratch my back Hot legs, bring your mother too I love you honey
Imagine how my daddy felt in your jet black suspender belt Seventeen years old He's touching sixty four
You got legs right up to your neck You're making me a physical wreck I'm talking to you Hot legs, in your satin shoes Hot legs, are you still in school Hot legs, you're making me a fool I love you honey
Hot legs, making your mark Hot legs, keep my pencil sharp Hot legs, keep your hands to yourself I love you honey Hot legs, you're wearing me out Hot legs, you can scream and shout Hot legs, you're still in school I love you honey
