America The Beautiful ((Adapted from: "Materna (by Samuel Augustus Ward) - 1882" and "America The Beautiful (by Katharine Lee Bates) - 1893")) Composer(s): Samuel Augustus Ward - Katharine Lee Bates First recording/First release by: Frank Sinatra & The Ken Lane Singers - 1945 Covered by multiple other artists
O beautiful for spacious skies For amber waves of grain For purple mountain majesties Above the fruited plain! America! America! God shed his grace on thee And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for pilgrim feet Whose stern impassioned stress A thoroughfare of freedom beat Across the wilderness! America! America! God mend thine every flaw Confirm thy soul in self-control Thy liberty in law!
O beautiful for heroes proved In liberating strife Who more than self their country loved And mercy more than life! America! America! May God thy gold refine Till all success be nobleness And every gain divine!
O beautiful for patriot dream That sees beyond the years Thine alabaster cities gleam Undimmed by human tears! America! America! God shed his grace on thee And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for halcyon skies For amber waves of grain For purple mountain majesties Above the enameled plain! America! America! God shed his grace on thee Till souls wax fair as earth and air And music-hearted sea!
O beautiful for pilgrims feet Whose stem impassioned stress A thoroughfare for freedom beat Across the wilderness! America! America! God shed his grace on thee Till paths be wrought through wilds of thought By pilgrim foot and knee!
O beautiful for glory-tale Of liberating strife When once and twice for man's avail Men lavished precious life! America! America! God shed his grace on thee Till selfish gain no longer stain The banner of the free!
O beautiful for patriot dream That sees beyond the years Thine alabaster cities gleam Undimmed by human tears! America! America! God shed his grace on thee Till nobler men keep once again Thy whiter jubilee!
Would You Catch A Falling Star Composer(s): Bobby Braddock Performer(s): John Anderson
You know the crowd was very small for a country music show But he faked a curtain call just like it was years ago And then a lady grabbed his arm as he staggered down the aisle And with all his country charm he addressed her with a smile
Would you catch a fallin' star before he crashes to the ground Don't you know how people are nobody loves you when you're down Pick me up and take me home and I'll bring my old guitar Sing a golden oldie song if you'll catch a fallin' star
He had a silver plated bus and a million country fans And now there's just a few of us and he drives a little van An' they were beating down his door the lovely women, left and right And now he's on the hardwood floor a-wonderin' where he'll spend the night
Would you catch a fallin' star before he crashes to the ground Don't you know how people are nobody loves you when you're down Pick me up and take me home and I'll bring my old guitar Sing a golden oldie song if you'll catch a fallin' star
Sing a golden oldie song if you'll catch a fallin' star
Would Jesus Wear A Rolex Composer(s): Margaret Archer; Chet Atkins Performer(s): Ray Stevens
Woke up this mornin' turned on my TV set There in livin' color was somethin' I can't forget This man was preachin' at me.. yeah.. layin' on the charm Asking me for 20 with 10,000 on his arm
He wore designer clothing and a big smile on his face Selling me salvation while they sang Amazing Grace Asking me for money when he had all the signs of weath Almost wrote a check out.. yeah.. but then I asked myself
Would He wear a pinky ring, would He drive a fancy car Would His wife wear furs and diamonds, would His dressing room have a star If he came back tomorrow there's something I'd like to know Would Jesus wear a rolex on His television show
Would Jesus be political if he came back to earth Have his second home in Palm Springs.. yeah.. but try to hide his worth Take money from those poor folks when He comes back again And admit He's talked to all those preachers who said they'd been-a talking to Him
Would He wear a pinky ring, would He drive a fancy car Would His wife wear furs and diamonds, would His dressing room have a star If he came back tomorrow there's something I'd like to know Could ya tell me - Would Jesus wear a rolex Would Jesus wear a rolex Would Jesus wear a rolex on His television show Would Jesus wear a rolex on His television show
Wot'cher! (Knocked 'Em In The Old Kent Road) From the movie "The Little Princess" (1939) Composer(s): Albert Chevalier; Charles Ingle Originally performed by: Shirley Temple Covered by various other artists
Last week down our alley came a toff Nice old geezer with a nasty cough Sees my missus, takes his topper off In a very gentlemanly way
"Wot cher!" all the neighbors cried "Who yer gonna meet, Bill Have yer bought the street, Bill"? Laugh! I thought I should've died Knocked 'em in the Old Kent Road
Ev'ry evenin' at the stroke of five Me and the missus takes a little drive You'd say, "Wonderful they're still alive" If you saw that little donkey go
When we starts the blessed donkey stops He won't move, so out I quickly lops Pals start whackin' him, when down he drops Someone says he wasn't made to go
"Wot cher!" all the neighbors cried "Who yer gonna meet, Bill Have yer bought the street, Bill"? Laugh! I thought I should've died Knocked 'em in the Old Kent Road
Wot Composer(s): Ray Burns; Captain Sensible Originally performed by: Captain Sensible Covered by: Lismore
When I woke up this morning I was feelin' fine But this cat starts banging man what a swine So I called reception but to no avail That's why I'm telling you this sorry tale It went bang - I said shut up
It went bang - I said rap up Well I'm aware that the guy must do his work But the piledriver man drove me berserk He said captain I said wot
He said captain I said wot
He said captain I said wot
He said captain I said wot d'ya want
Once a lifetime twice a day If you don't work you get no pay
I been to the east I been to the west
But the girls I like best are the ones undressed
Well hello Adam where you been? I said a'stand aside 'cause I'm feelin' mean
I've had a gutful of you and I'm feelin' bad 'Cause you're an ugly old pirate and ain't I glad He said captain I said wot

Worry Composer(s): Paul Rodgers Performer(s): Free
If it's the cold black night that's eating up your heart the cold damp sweat keep you and sleep apart The ticking clock just watching on the table the wind that howls as much as it is able
Then worry baby worry there's a reason for you to there's a silent, deadly message in the wind that's meant for you
And the sleeping streets have closed their tired eyes The fear that creeps Will move & slowly rise your beating heart will hammer at your breast your aching brain will cry aloud for rest
Worry baby worry there's a reason for you to there's a silent, deadly message in the wind that's meant for you
Worry baby worry there's a reason for you to there's a silent, deadly message in the wind that's meant for you
Worried Life Blues Performer(s): Bessie Smith & James P. Johnson
I lived a life but nothing I've gained Each day I'm full of sorrow and pain No one seems enough for poor me To give me a word of sympathy Oh me, oh my Wonder what will the end be Oh me, oh my Wonder what will become of poor me
No father to guide, no mother to care Must bear my troubles all alone Not even a brother to help me share This burden I must bear alone Oh me, oh my Wonder what will the end be Oh me, oh my Wonder what will become of poor me
I'm sittin' and thinkin' of the days gone by They fills my heart with pain I'm too weak to stand and too strong to lie But I'm forgettin' it all in vain Oh me, oh my Wonder what will the end be Oh me, oh my Wonder what will become of poor me
I've travelled and wandered almost everywhere To get a little joy from life Still I've gained but worries and despair Still struggling in this world of strife Oh me, oh my Wonder what will the end be Oh me, oh my Wonder what will become of poor me
Worried, yes I'm worried Because she just told me goodbye Tell me what on earth am I to do Worried, yes I'm worried Because she just walked out on me Worried, disapointed, sad and blue
I feel just like I wanna die I know I've got a right to cry Lovin' her is all I want to do Worried, yes I'm worried And I've got a right to be She means more than this whole wide world to me
I feel just like I wanna die I know I've got a right to cry Lovin' her is all I want to do Worried, yes I'm worried And I've got a right to be She means more than this whole wide world to me
Worn Down Piano Originally performed by: Mark & Clark Band
Each Tuesday morning, they'd all stand in line the auction would open promptly at nine The gavel came down on the auctioneer's block and the bidding began on a grandfather's clock
Next up for bids in the rear of the room a piano worn down and a bit out of tune. Who'll start the bidding?, the auctioneer cried No voices rang out, so just put it aside
Shouts filled the room and the auction went on when the cries of the crowd were stopped by a song Everyone turned to the rear of the room to that worn down piano, a bit out of tune
Oh the days long ago when the crowds came around to hear that piano ring out with sound but the crowds have all gone and the symphony's through and the piano cries out: 'let me play once for you'
A man with a torn coat and a hole in one shoe sat playing the song that nobody knew The music rang out and that song filled the room from that worn down piano, a bit out of tune
Then from the crowd a man shouted a bid One thousand dollars for that piano I'll give Two thousand, Three thousand, and the bidding went on as the man in the torn coat kept playing that song
The bidding grew tense each bid more and more 'til the five thousand figure rang out from the floor the man in the torn coat just sat there and stared playing that song as if no-one were there
Oh the days long ago when the crowds came around to hear that piano ring out with sound but the crowds have all gone and the symphony's through and the piano cries out: let me play once for you
The man in the torn coat played as if to say I too want you, piano but I've nothing to pay I'd give all I own if you could be mine but all I can bid is this bottle of wine
The sound of the gavel rang out through the air the auctioneer cried: Top that bid if you dare Just give him the piano, maestro play on but where has the man, in the torn coat gone?
It's a quarter past five and the bidding is done everything's sold and now leave one by one The auction is over and left in that room is that worn down piano, still a bit out of tune
Oh the days long ago when the crowds came around to hear that piano ring out with sound but the crowds have all gone and the symphony's through and the piano cries out: let me once play for you
World Turning Composer(s): Lindsey Buckingham; Christine McVie Originally performed by: Fleetwood Mac Covered by various other artists
Everybody's trying to say I'm wrong I just wanna be back where I belong world turning...... I gotta get my feet back on the ground world turning....... everybody's got me down maybe I'm wrong, but who's to say what's right? I need somebody to help me thru the night
World On A String Composer(s): Neil Young Originally performed by: Neil Young Covered by: Nils Lofgren
You know I lose, you know I win you know I call for the shape I'm in It's just a game you see me play only real in the way that I feel from day to day
Although the answer is not unknown I'm searchin', searchin', and how I've grown It's not all right to say goodbye and the world on a string doesn't mean a thing
No, the world on a string doesn't mean a thing It's only real in the way that I feel from day to day Day to day
World In Flames Spanish Title: Mundo En Llamas Performer(s): Pedro Aznar
When your heart breaks up and you see only darkness When you no longer have any will or strength to go on When everything becomes a farce that you don't care to decipher Sinking in front of a beach with no lighthouse, no home, no final destination
Walking amidst a thousand faces, between unspoken words The same doubt in their throats: how did they get here Everyone carries a shadow that they wish weren't there The pain that names everyone worse than loneliness is to lose humanity
How to live in a world in flames without having your heart turn to ice How to write a new plot Feeling that as your life pulses, it lives in me
When we no longer find anything or anyone else to conquer and our hunger, still dissatisfied, has nothing left to devastate To tie ourselves to the past, we need only remember but the future is more cumbersome and today is the time to think what kind of tomorrow will come
How to live in a world in flames without having your heart turn to ice How to write more than just tragedy Feeling that as my life pulses, it lives in you
World Away From Me Composer(s): Woody Guthrie Performer(s): Arlo Guthrie
I've been keeping on the run I've been traveling with the sun I've been singing all my life and getting by Got to keep up with what's goung on In this place I've been so long And I guess I'll just keep singing all my life
And it's so good to come home To a woman all alone Forgeting how hnd loneliness can be She will take me from this world Then she'll gently take the world away from me
l'll be coming home at night While the kids are sleeping tight She'll be lit by firelight and looking fine And the kids jump out of bed Hello Daddy, what did you get Did you think of anything on down the line
She'll be talking with her smile Saying, honey, wait awhile The kids have missed you, soon they'll be asleep She will take me from this world Then she'll gently take the world away from me
Oh the prophets and the sages And the wise men through the ages All that's written down on pages from above Just can't adequately describe What I'm feeling here inside It's just useless to be living without love
And I'll take her by her hand Just a woman and a man Without trying to understand what we should be She will take me from this world Then she'll gently take the world away from me
Working On The Road Composer(s): Alvin Lee Performer(s): Ten Years After
I've been working on the road about fifteen years Been blowing my mind, I've been blasting my ears Don't you know, babe? I've been sleeping all day and working all night I made a lot of money, but it don't feel right Don't you know, babe?
Well, I've seen the world and it's seen me In a strange kind of way I guess I'm free Don't you know, babe? Well, I've seen it bad and I've seen it good But, now, I want to clear my blood Don't you know, babe?
I've got a feeling for home Somewhere that I call my own
Well, I tried to live the way I should I've shed some tears and sweated blood Don't you know, babe? And I think it's time I took a break 'Cause I have took all I can take Don't you know, babe?
I've got a feeling for home Somewhere that I call my own Take me home, babe
