Death Of An Unpopular Poet Composer(s): Jimmy Buffett Performer(s): Jimmy Buffett
I once knew a poet Who lived before his time He and his dog Spooner Would listen while he'd rhyme Words to make ya happy Words to make you cry Then one day the poet suddenly did die
But he left behind a closet Filled with verse and rhyme And through some strange transaction One was printed in the Times And everybody's searchin' For the king of undergound Well they found him down in Florida With a tombstone for a crown
Everybody knows a line From his book that cost four ninety-nine I wonder if he knows he's doin' Quite this fine
'Cause his books are all best sellers And his poems were turned to song Had his brother on a talk show Though they never got along And now he's called immortal Yes he's even taught in school They say he used his talents A most proficient tool
But he left all of his royalties To Spooner his ol' hound Growin' old on steak and bacon In a doghouse ten feet 'round And everybody wonders Did he really lose his mind No he was just a poet who lived before his time He was just a poet who lived before his time
Glad To Know You Composer(s): Ian Dury - Chaz Jankel Performer(s): Chaz Jankel; Kitty Grant
You wander in upon my life and haven't lost me yet Said the turkey to the carving knife "What you give is what you get" A fresh and mildly summers day, we thought would never end Said the bloodhound to the stack of bay "I thought you were my friend"
I thought you were my friend Glad to know you, and our way of welcome Pleased to meet you
We laugh and cry as lovers will And howl at many moons Said the waiter as he wrote the bill "Please return the spoons" As hand in hand we wander on Through life's own wondrous maze Said Robin Hood to Little John "There must be other ways"
There must be other ways Glad to know you, a way of saying welcome Pleased to meet you Pleased to meet you
We rest and kissed and talked and strolled and buried precious idle Said knife and fork to sausage roll "It's prickly in the middle" And thus it seems come rain and shine, the patience still unfolds Said the piker upon the Anglers Line "I wish that I'd been told"
I wish that I'd been told Glad to know you, and your very welcome Pleased to meet you
I wish that I'd been told Glad to know you, and your very welcome Pleased to meet you
I wish that I'd been told Glad to know you, our way of saying welcome Pleased to meet you Pleased to meet you
I wish that I'd been told Glad to know you, and our way of welcome
Death Of A Salesman
Composer(s): Saul Broudy - Steve Burgh - Steve Goodman - Jeff Gutcheon - Lew London - Jim Rothermel
Performer(s): Steve Goodman
A traveling salesman stopped for gas, as it was getting late He sure was getting tired, and it was snowing on the Interstate He says, "Will you fill her up, my friend, and see if my oil's alright And do you know a place where a tired-out traveling man might spend the night?"
The attendant winked at him and says, "I'll bet you've been around Well the man who puts up lodgers here is known as Farmer Brown You'll find him in that old stone house that's just at the edge of town And he has a fifteen-year-old daughter who likes to fool around"
The salesman winked right back at him and a smile came to his lips He paid for the gas and the oil and then he gave that man a tip He started out and pushed that old gas pedal down to the floor He was off like a bat and in nothing flat he was at the farmer's door
The door opened up and a beautiful girl says, "Won't you come on it?" That traveling salesman's tongue was hanging out like Rin-Tin-Tin "That old gas station attendant said I would find you here And do you have a suitable room you could rent to me, my dear?"
"Alas, kind sir, I'm sorry but the last one's gone, you see So if you want to spend the night, you'll have to sleep with me" He says, "How fortuitous, my pretty little miss!" And he throws his arms around her and he gives that girl a kiss
Now her warm and tender ruby lips he scarcely could believe And he never saw the hammer she had hidden up her sleeve She said, "I'm geting sleepy. It's time to go to bed" And as they turned to climb the stairs she whupped him on the head
The very next day, the salesman's car, with brand new license plates Was sitting at Farmer Brown's Gas Station out on the Interstate So all you traveling salesmen who might be passing through Better watch your step or the traveling salesman joke will be on you!

Another Saturday night, and I ain't got nobody I got some money 'cause I just got paid Now how I wish I had someone to talk to I'm in an awful way

It's hard on a fella' when he don't know his way around If I don't find me a honey to help me spend my money I'm gonna' have to blow this town
Another Saturday night, and I ain't got nobody I got some money 'cause I just got paid Now how I wish I had someone to talk to I'm in an awful way

You Composer(s): Phil Cody - Neil Sedaka Performer(s): Neil Sedaka
I'm in love with you, each and every day And I can't remember my life another way!
Like a child hangin' on the tremblin' hands Snuggled in against the cold, I know The world turns left to right The best part of my life is you!
Like a gentle breath of hope in the night You bring my little secret longings to light! Ooh, nobody can make it happen like you Nobody but you!
Promises may break and the sky might fall Love may last for ever, or maybe not at all!
Like a shell tumblin' upon the tide A kid upon a giddy ride That's me! At home or out to sea I always want to be With you!
Like a gentle breath of hope in the night You bring my little secret longings to light! Ooh, nobody can make it happen like you Nobody but you!
Like a child hangin' on the tremblin' hands Snuggled in against the cold, I know The world turns left to right The best part of my life is you!
Like a gentle breath of hope in the night You bring my little secret longings to light! Ooh, nobody can make it happen like you Nobody but you! Nobody but you!

Another Rainy Day In New York City Composer(s): Eric Faulkner - Stuart "Woody" Wood Performer(s): Bay City Rollers
Listen to the radio A voice on the early show says I'm not alone It's just another rainy day in New York City And the rain comes pouring down Like early morning strangers we had nothing left to say but "See you round"
And I think of the night when it all felt so right How was I supposed to know? Now your feeling's gone 'cos when I call on the phone You told the operator say "Sorry, no-one's home"
It's another rainy day in New York City At night those city lights they sure look pretty I held my candle to the wind and watched my dreams just sail away With another rainy day in New York City
To think that only yesterday Life was such an easy game that I could play Now it's another rainy day in New York City And the rain comes pouring down
So I'm on my own and the radio says That the sun ain't gonna shine With the words you said spinnin' round in my head You know I can't find a way to get you out of my mind.
It's another rainy day in New York City At night those city lights they sure look pretty I held my candle to the wind and watched my dreams just sail away With another rainy day in New York City
It's another rainy day in New York City At night those city lights they sure look pretty ...

But don't, don't lead me on don't love me tonight if tomorrow you'll be gone If you don't mean the things that you say please don't, don't lead me on
If you don't mean the things that you say oh don't, don't lead me on

Another Rag Composer(s): D.A. Esrom - Theodore Morse
What's that tune I'm hearing everywhere? What's that sound a floating in the air? What's that music all the brass bands play? Hear it in the morning every night and day. 'Taint like music Mister Wagner wrote Got a funny, sneaky minor note, if you ask what they are playing Everybody will be saying, "It's another rag, that's all"
That's some tune, it's got some feeling too You don't know just what has happened to you Starts you jumping like a big jumping Jack sending chills a running up and down your back It's a lovey dovery sort of a strain Make you do things that you can't explain When the violins are scraping Then you'll know there's no escaping From another raggy rag
Another rag, another raggy rag Another tune to set you spoony soon Another crazy tune, another lazy tune It's a slippy, dippy, creepy, sleepy "get you going rag Another strain, another raggy strain A hum and buzz just like a Pullman train stop! (stop) look! (look) Come on and listen That's it! (That's that) Don't you know what that is? Why, that's another rag, a raggy rag
Dear Yoko Composer(s): John Lennon Performer(s): John Lennon
Even after all these years I miss you when you're not here I wish you were here my dear Yoko Even if it's just a day I miss you when you're away I wish you were here today dear Yoko Even if it's just one night I miss you and it don't feel right I wish you were here tonight dear Yoko Even if it's just one hour I wilt just like a fading flower Ain't nothing in the world like our love dear Yoko Oh Yoko I'll never, ever, ever, ever, ever gonna let you go Oh Yoko I'll never, ever, ever, ever, ever gonna let you go Even when I'm miles at sea And nowhere is the place to be Your spirit's watching over me dear Yoko Even when I watch T.V. There's a hole where you're supposed to be There's nobody lying next to me dear Yoko Oh Yoko I'll never, ever, ever, ever, ever gonna let you go Oh Yoko I'll never, ever, ever, ever, ever gonna let you go Even after all this time I miss you like the sun don't shine Without I'm a one track mind dear Yoko After all is really said and done The two of us are really one The goddess really smiled upon our love dear Yoko
Rain Composer(s): Parfitt Performer(s): Status Quo
How can I see what I'm needing for How can I give what I gave before How can you tell me that you want me to stay How can I stay when I'm trying to say That I can't live without the rain Yes I can't live without the rain
How can I feel what I'm trying to feel How can I move when I'm heel to heel You're always shouting about the doubt in my eyes But I can't answer 'cos my eyes are so dry Now I can't live without the rain Yes I can't live without the rain
Now I can't live without the rain That's falling on my head Rain that's falling on my head Rain that's falling Rain that's falling Rain that's falling on my head
I started thinking back to you know when I'd like to send a line but then again How can I write you when there ain't no light? I'm feeling tired tonight but that is all right Now I can't live without the rain Yes I can't live without the rain
