    and multiple other artists

    Oh, Sister Josephine
What do all these policemen mean
By coming to the convent in a grim limousine
    After Sister Josephine?

    While you, Sister Josephine
You sit with your boots up on the altar screen
    You smoke one last cigar
What a funny nun you are

The policemen say that Josephine's a burglar in disguise
Big bad Norman - fifteen years on the run
The sisters disbelieve it: No, that can't be Josephine
Just think about her tenderness towards the younger nuns

    Oh, Sister Josephine
They're searching the chapel where you've been seen
The nooks and the crannies of the nun's canteen
    After Sister Josephine

    While you, Sister Josephine
    You sip one farewell Benedictine
    Before your au revoir
A right funny nun you are

Admittedly her hands are big and hairy
And embellished with a curious tattoo
Admittedly her voice is on the deep side
And she seems to shave more often than the other sisters do

    Oh, Sister Josephine
Founder of the convent pontoon team
They're looking through your bundles of rare magazines
    After Sister Josephine

    While you, Sister Josephine
You give a goodbye sniff of benzedrine
    To the convent budgerigar
A bloody funny nun you are

No longer will her snores ring through the chapel during prayers
Nor her lustful moanings fill the stilly night
No more empty bottles of altar wine come clunking from her cell
No longer will the cloister toilet seat stand upright

    Oh, Sister Josephine
Slipping through their fingers like vaseline
Leaving them to clutch your empty crinoline
    After Sister Josephine

    While you, Sister Josephine
Sprinting through the suburbs when last seen
Dressed only in your wimple and your rosary
A right funny nun you seem to be

    Phoenix
    Composer(s): Dan Fogelberg
    Performer(s): Dan Fogelberg

I have cried too...I have cried too long
I have cried too...I have cried too long
No more sorrow...got to carry on

Found deep water before I'd even learned to swim
Found deep water before I'd even learned to swim
Never thought I'd see the sun again
    Once I was a...once I was a man alone
    Once I was a...once I was a man alone
Now I've found a heart to call my home
Like a Phoenix I have risen from the flames
Like a Phoenix I have risen from the flames
No more living someone else's dreams

I have cried too...I have cried too long
I have cried too...I have cried too long
No more sorrow...got to carry on
You almost had me, old lady
You almost tied me down good
You played the lady in waiting
And I waited as long as I could
Too long the songs have been silent
Too long the strings have been still
I never knew what you wanted
And I guess that I never will
Like a Phoenix I have risen from the flames
Like a Phoenix I have risen from the flames
No more living someone else's dreams

I have cried too...I have cried too long
I have cried too...I have cried too long
No more sorrow...got to carry on

    Chance Of A Lifetime
First performance by: Pat McGeegan - 1968

One day, while I was out walking
I saw your face in the midst of a crowd
Here, I thought, is the chance of a lifetime
    I thought you'd stepped from a cloud

    Think of that wonderful meeting
oh... the sun shone down on us from above
Why should I be out walking that day
and get the chance of a lifetime of love?

Show me the way you are feeling
always tell me just what I should know
Oh... a guiding hand must have brought us together
but now that seems so long ago

You are the one I have dreamt of, oh...
I never thought my dreams would come true
All I want is the chance of a lifetime
the chance of a lifetime with you

Show me the way you are feeling
lways tell me just what I should know
Oh... a guiding hand must have brought us together
but now that seems so long ago

You are the one I have dreamt of
I never thought my dreams would come true
All I want is the chance of a lifetime
the chance of a lifetime with you

All I want is the chance of a lifetime
the chance of a lifetime with you

    Composer(s): Brice Homs; Michel Fugain
    Performer(s): Michel Fugain

    Sister Golden Hair
    Composer(s): Gerry Beckley
First release by: America - 1975

Well I tried to make it Sunday
But I got so damned depressed
That I set my sights on Monday
    And I got myself undressed
Uh I ain't ready for the altar
But I do agree there's times
When a woman sure can be a friend of mine

Well I keep on thinkin' 'bout you
    Sister golden, hair's a prize
And I just can't live without you
Can't you see it in my eyes
Uh I been one poor correspondent
And I been too, too hard to find
But it doesn't mean you ain't been on my mind

Will you meet me in the middle
Will you meet me in the air
Will you love me just a little
Just enough to show you care
Well I tried to fake it, I don't mind sayin'
    I just can't make it

Well I keep on thinkin' 'bout you
    Sister Golden-haired surprise
And I just can't live without you
Can't you see it in my eyes
Now I been one poor correspondent
And I been too, too hard to find
But it doesn't mean you ain't been on my mind

Will you meet me in the middle
Will you meet me in the air
Will you love me just a little
Just enough to show you care

    Philosopher
    Composer(s): P. Papini; J. Schwartz
    Performer(s): Yellowstone & Voice

All of the children in the park
Searching the sculpture to find where you are
All of the blind men in the dark follow you
Do you know where you go?
All of the travelers on the road
Put down the burdens to see where you go
All of the mortals with their loss
    Follow you anywhere, follow you
Do you know where you go?
    Philosopher
If he should turn his head around
He will see they’re all about
All of these people falling down
    Philosopher
Can you survive the world you teach?
And can we live the world you preach?
All of your people out of reach
All of the people wanting more
    Needing to follow a philosopher
All of the wealthy and the poor
    Follow you anywhere, follow you
Do you know where you go?
    Philosopher
If he should turn his head around
He will see they’re all about
All of these people falling down
    Philosopher
Can you survive the world you teach?
And can we live the world you preach?
All of your people out of reach

    Stress
First performance by: Odd Børre - 1968

Tid... tid... tid... tid... tid, siste bussen går

Sa... sa... sa... sa... sa... sa... saker jeg sku'
Pra... pra... pra... pra... pra... pratet med deg om

Men... men... men... men... men... men alt de der må
Ven... ven... ven... ven... vente til vi ses i -
Gjen... gjen... gjen... gjen... gjen, siste bussen går

    Philadelphia Lawyer (aka Reno Blues)
    Composer(s): Woody Guthrie
    Performer(s): Woody Guthrie;
    and various other artists

    Way out in Reno Nevada
    Where romance blooms and fades
    A great Philadelphia lawyer
Was in love with a Hollywood maid

Come love and we will wander
Down where the lights are bright
I'll win you a divorce from your husband
And we can get married tonight

Now, Bill was a gun totin' cowboy
Ten notches were carved on his gun
And all the boys around Reno
    Left Wild Bill's maiden alone

One night when he was returning
From riding the range in the cold
He dreamed of his Hollywood sweetheart
Her love was as lasting as gold

As he drew near her window
Two shadows he saw in the shade
    Twas a great Philadelphia lawyer
Making love to Bill's Hollywood maid

The night was as still as the desert
    The moon hanging high overhead
Bill listened awhile to the window
He could hear every word that was said

Your hands are so pretty and lovely
Your form so rare and divine
Come go with me to the city
And leave this wild cowboy behind

    Tonight back in old Pennsylvania
    Among those beautiful pines
    There's one less Philadelphia lawyer
    In old Philadelphia tonight

Noah is fixing the pump in the rain
    He brings us no shame
We always knew that he always knew

    Up over the hill
Jovial neighbors come down when they will
    With stories to tell
    Sometimes they do
    Yes sometimes we do
    We have a rocking chair
Each of us rocks his share
    Eating muffin buns and berries
    By the steamy kitchen window
    Sometimes we do
    Our tongues turn blue

    Sisotowbell Lane
Anywhere else now would seem very strange
    The seasons are changing
    Everyday in everyway
    Sometimes it is spring
    Sometimes it is not anything
    A poet can sing
    Sometimes we try
    Yes we always try
    We have a rocking chair
    Somedays we rock and stare
At the woodlands and the grasslands
and the badlands 'cross the river
    Sometimes we do
    We like the view

    Sisotowbell Lane
Go to the city you'll come back again
    To wade thru the grain
    You always do
    Yes we always do
    Come back to the stars
Sweet well water and pickling jars

    We'll lend you the car
    We always do
    Yes sometimes we do
    We have a rocking chair
    Someone is always there
    Rocking rhythms while they're waiting
with the candle in the window

    We wait for youSisotowbell Lane

I used to be a rolling stone
You know if the cause was right
I'd leave to find the answer on the road
I used to be a heart beating for someone
    But the times have changed
The less I say the more my work gets done

`Cause I live and breathe this Philadelphia freedom
From the day that I was born I've waved the flag
Philadelphia freedom took me knee-high to a man
Yeah gave me peace of mind my daddy never had

Oh Philadelphia freedom shine on me, I love you
Shine a light through the eyes of the ones left behind
Shine a light shine a light
Shine a light won't you shine a light
Philadelphia freedom I love you, yes I do

If you choose to you can live your life alone
    Some people choose the city
Some others choose the good old family home
I like living easy without family ties
Till the whippoorwill of freedom zapped me
    Right between the eyes

    Sir William Gower
    (Traditional)
    Performer(s): Fairport Convention

I am a sailor, both stout and strong
To a goodly vessel I do belong
Well guard and anchored and well equipped
Sir William Gower and a very fine ship

Our captain in his cabin lay
When a dreadful voice to him did say
"This night with me in the deep you'll be
So prepare yourself and your company"

The sky grew dark and the sea grew still
Though the men were fearful and the air was chill
Sir William rose to meet his men
Saying "Hear me now for I'll not speak again"

"I loved my mother when she was alive
And to my sister I gave babies five
I killed my wife and her children three
So I now must face what has come for me"

"You'll lash a timber close to my side
And throw me out on the water wide
And if I swim then let me be
But if I sink them pray for me"

So we tied his head and we tied his feet
And around his middle a winding sheet
At every knot the sea did stir
    Grew ready for the murderer

And then we saw his open grave
The likeness of a single wave
That swept our ship from her stern to her bow
And bore away Sir William Gower

My Philly filly from old P A

    Man, she's a dilly, hey!

When she's dancin', she can really go
Twistin' or a-boppin', she steals the show
Looks so neat, walkin' down the street
She's my filly and she can't be beat
    Philadelphia filly
    Man, she's a dilly, no!

When she kisses, she makes a smack
Makes a shiver run up my back
Dressed for a weddin' or in old blue jeans
Sweetest gal that you've ever seen
    Philadelphia filly
    Man, she's a dilly, hey!

Number one rocker all over this land
Swingin' to the music on the big bandstand
Speaking in class or doin' handjive
    Makes everybody just come alive

    Man she's a dilly, hey!

    Phenomenal Cat
    Composer(s): Ray Davies
    Performer(s): The Kinks

    A long, long time ago
In the land of idiot boys
There lived a cat, a phenomenal cat
Who loved to wallow all day

    No one bothered him
As he sat, content in his tree.
He just lived to eat 'cause it kept him fat
And that's how he wanted to stay

Though he was big and fat
All the world was good to him,
And he pointed out on the map
All the places he had been
Kathmandu, The Scilley Isles and Sahara, too

    Fum, fum, diddle-um di
La la la la, la-la la la
La la la la, la-la la la la
La la la la-la la la

    Once when he was thin
He had flown to old Hong Kong
And had learned the secret of life
And the sea and the sky beyond
So he gave up his diet and sat in a tree
    And ate himself through eternity

    Fum, fum, diddle-um di
La la la la la-la la la
La la la la, la-la la la la
La la la la-la la la
    Fum, fum, diddle-um di
    Fum, fum, diddle-um di

    Sir Patrick Spens
    (Traditional)
    Performer(s): Ewan MacColl - 1951
    and multiple other artists

The King sits in Dunfirmline town, drinking of the blood-red wine
"Where can I get a steely skipper to sail this might boat of mine?"

Then up there spoke a bonny boy, sitting at the King's right knee
"Sir Patrick Spens is the very best seaman that ever sailed upon the sea"

The King has written a broad letter and sealed it up with his own right hand
Sending word unto Sir Patrick to come to him at his command

"An enemy then this must be who told the lie concerning me
For I was never a very good seaman, nor ever do intend to be"

"Last night I saw the new moon clear with the new moon in her hair
And that is a sign since we were born that means there'll be a deadly storm"

They had not sailed upon the deep a day, a day but barely free
When loud and boisterous blew the winds and loud and noisy blew the sea

Then up there came a mermaiden, a comb and glass all in her hand
"Here's to you my merry young men for you'll not see dry land again"

"Long may my lady stand with a lantern in her hand
Before she sees my bonny ship come sailing homeward to dry land"

Forty miles off Aberdeen, the waters fifty fathoms deep
There lies good Sir Patrick Spens with the Scots lords at his feet

    Performer(s): Gary Wright

I'm not trying to fool you
    I'm just trying to explain
How my love for you is more than mystifyin'
Oh baby, my love is blind

In the light, it smiles from your face
I feel the space where love is inside
The light, it smiles from your face
    Melts my mind away

Once I thought I loved you
While I really was trying to find
A way of touching my own reality
    Oh baby, I'm still trying

In the light, it smiles from your face
I feel the space where love is inside
The light, it smiles from your face
    Melts my mind away
    Hey, hey, hey

Let me learn to know you
Can you show me a sign tonight
I do believe I need to be near you now
    Oh baby, love shines

In the light, it smiles from your face
I feel the space where love is inside
The light, it smiles from your face
    Melts my mind away

The light, it smiles from your face
Fix me the space where love is inside
The light, it smiles from your face
    Melts my mind away

    La Source
Composer(s): Guy Bonnet; Henri Djian; Daniel Faure
First performance by: Isabelle Aubret - 1968

    D'une fille qu'on y trouva

    Performer(s): Sarah Brightman;
    and various other artists

    Christine:
In sleep he sang to me, in dreams he came....
that voice which calls to me and speaks my name...
And do I dream again? For now I find
the Phantom of the Opera is there - inside my mind...

    Phantom:
Sing once again with me our strange duet...
My power over you grows stronger yet...
And though you turn from me,to glance behind,
the Phantom of the Opera is there - inside your mind...

    Christine:
Those who have seen your face
    draw back in fear...
I am the mask you wear...

    Phantom:
    It's me they hear...

    Both:
You're/my spirit and you're/my voice, in one combined:
the Phantom of the Opera is there - inside your/my mind...

    Chorus:
He's there, the Phantom of the Opera...
Beware the Phantom of the Opera...

    Phantom:
    In all your fantasies
    you always knew
    that man and mystery...

    Christine:
    ...were both in you...

    Both:
    And in this labyrinth
    where night is blind
the Phantom of the Opera is there/here
    inside your/my mind...

    Phantom:
    Sing my Angel of Music!
    He's there
    The Phantom of the Opera....

    Sir Joseph
    Performer(s): Gilbert & Sullivan

    When I was a lad I served a term
As office boy to an Attorney's firm
I cleaned the windows and I swept the floor
And I polished up the handle of the big front door
I polished up that handle so carefullee
That now I am the Ruler of the Queen's Navee!

    He polished, ...

As office boy I made such a mark
That they gave me the post of a junior clerk
I served the writs with a smile so bland
And I copied all the letters in a big round hand
I copied all the letters in a hand so free
That now I am the Ruler of the Queen's Navee!

    He copied, ...

In serving writs I made such a name
That an articled clerk I soon became
I wore clean collars and a brand-new suit
For the pass examination at the Institute
And that pass examination did so well for me
That now I am the Ruler of the Queen's Navee!

    And that pass examination, ...

Of legal knowledge I acquired such a grip
That they took me into the partnership
And that junior partnership, I ween
Was the only ship that I ever had seen
But that kind of ship so suited me
That now I am the Ruler of the Queen's Navee!

    But that kind, ...

I grew so rich that I was sent
By a pocket borough into Parliament
I always voted at my party's call
And I never thought of thinking for myself at all
I thought so little, they rewarded me
By making me the Ruler of the Queen's Navee!

    He thought so little, ...

Now landsmen all, whoever you may be
If you want to rise to the top of the tree
If your soul isn't fettered to an office stool
Be careful to be guided by this golden rule
Stick close to your desks and never go to sea
And you all may be rulers of the Queen's Navee!

    Stick close, ...

Big Joe ... And Phantom 309
    Composer(s): Tommy Faile
First release by: Red Sovine - 1967
    Covered by multiple other artists

I was out on the West Coast, tryin' to make a buck
And things didn't work out, I was down on my luck
Got tired a-roamin' and bummin' around
So I started thumbin' back East, toward my home town

Made a lot of miles, the first two days
And I figured I'd be home in week, if my luck held out this way
But, the third night I got stranded, way out of town
At a cold, lonely crossroads, rain was pourin' down

I was hungry and freezin', done caught a chill
When the lights of a big semi topped the hill
Lord, I sure was glad to hear them air brakes come on
And I climbed in that cab, where I knew it'd be warm

At the wheel sit a big man, he weighed about two-ten
He stuck out his hand and said with a grin
Big Joe's the name, I told him mine
And he said: The name of my rig is Phantom 309

I asked him why he called his rig such a name
He said: Son, this old Mack can put 'em all to shame
There ain't a driver, or a rig, a-runnin' any line
that seen nothin' but taillights from Phantom 309

Well, we rode and talked the better part of the night
When the lights of a truck stop came in sight
He said: I'm sorry son, this is as far as you go
'Cause, I gotta make a turn, just on up the road

Well, he tossed me a dime as he pulled her in low
And said: Have yourself a cup on old Big Joe
When Joe and his rig roared out in the night
In nothin' flat, he was clean out of sight

Well, I went inside and ordered me a cup
Told the waiter Big Joe was settin' me up
Aw!, you coulda heard a pin drop, it got deathly quiet
And the waiter's face turned kinda white

Well, did I say something wrong? I said with a halfway grin
He said: Naw, this happens every now and then
Ever' driver in here knows Big Joe
But son, let me tell you what happened about ten years ago

At the crossroads tonight, where you flagged him down
There was a bus load of kids, a comin' from town
And they were right in the middle, when Big Joe topped the hill
It could have been slaughter, but he turned his wheels

Well, Joe lost control, went into a skid
And gave his life to save that bunch-a kids
And there at that crossroads, was the end of the line
For Big Joe and phantom 309

But, every now and then, some hiker'll come by
And like you, Big Joe'll give 'em a ride
Here, have another cup and forget about the dime
Keep it as a souvenir, from Big Joe and Phantom 309!
