Once I had my darlin' beside me
To brighten the night and the day
But now she has left me forever
The angels have led her away

I'm writing a letter to heaven
To one that I always will love
I'm sending my heart in this letter
In care of the angels above

My life is so empty without her
The world is so lonesome and grey
I'm sending my heart in this letter
And that's where it always will stay

I know that I'll miss her forever
And that I'll be true through the years
And that's why I'm writing this letter
With ink that is made from my tears
