It Came Out Of The Sky
    Composer(s): John Fogerty
First release by: Creedence Clearwater Revival - 1969
    Covered by multiple other artists

Oh, It Came Out Of The Sky, landed just a little south of Moline
Jody fell out of his tractor, couldn't believe what he seen
Laid on the ground and shook, fearing for his life
Then he ran all the way to town screaming "It Came Out Of The Sky"

Well, a crowd gathered 'round and a scientist said it was marsh gas
Spiro came and made a speech about raising the Mars tax
The Vatican said, "Woe, the Lord has come"
Hollywood rushed out an epic film
And Ronnie the Popular said it was a communist plot

Oh, the newspapers came and made Jody a national hero
Walter and Eric said they'd put him on a network T.V. show
The White House said, "Put the thing in the Blue Room"
The Vatican said, "No, it belongs to Rome"
And Jody said, "It's mine and you can have it for seventeen million"

Oh, It Came Out Of The Sky, landed just a little south of Moline
Jody fell out of his tractor, couldn't believe what he seen
Laid on the ground a shaking, fearing for his life
Then he ran all the way to town screaming "It Came Out Of The Sky"

    No Chemise, Please!
Composer(s): Jodi D'Amour; Arnold Goland; Gerry Granahan
    Performer(s): Gerry Granahan

I had a date for the hop last night
Up to her door everything seemed right
But to my surprise as I opened the door
I couldn't tell the front from the back
"'Cause she was wearin' a sack dress
    Whew what a mess!
The last time I saw her, man what a shape!!
And now she's got a shape like an egg!

No chemise, please, not for me, please
Well you can take back the sack, leave it hangin' on the rack
    And bring a sweater back!!

When we arrived at the hop
We started in doin' the stroll
I told her I wanted to stop
But she wanted rock and roll
I told her forty times and it really was a crime
I was talkin' to the back of her head!!

No chemise, please, not for me, please
Well you can take back the sack, leave it hangin' on the rack
    And bring a sweater back!!---yeah

Sure would like to find the creator
Who covered up my baby in this tent
    He musta been a woman-hater
I keep wonderin' where the wiggle went
So won't you change the fad, have pity on me please
Put 'er back in her dungarees

No chemise, please, not for me, please
Well you can take back the sack, leave it hangin' on the rack
    And bring a sweater back!!

No chemise, please, not for me, please
Well you can take back the sack, leave it hangin' on the rack
    Bring a sweater back!!

    Do Not Say Good-Bye
    Composer(s): Leonard Marx
    Performer(s): The Marx Brothers

You ask me why I feel so blue
You ask me why I cry
You ask me why I look so sad
You ask me why I sigh

You made me love you more and more
And now that we must part
The sunshine leaves, the sorrow comes
    Into my breaking heart

Don't say good-bye, Dear, please don't go away
I feel so lonesome, I want you to stay, my Dearie
When I am lonely, that's the time I sigh
I want you only, so do not say good-bye

I knew that sometime you would go
    And leave me all alone
I hoped in vain that you might stay
    And never, never roam

And though you promise to return
I know that you'll not find
The broken heart, the shattered life
    That you once left behind

Don't say good-bye, Dear, please don't go away
I feel so lonesome, I want you to stay, my Dearie
When I am lonely, that's the time I sigh
I want you only, so do not say good-bye

No Charge Composer(s): Harlan Howard First release by: Melba Montgomery - 1974 Covered by multiple other artists Versions In Other Languages: 1974 - Cadeau (by Marie Laforêt) 1978 - Ingen Regning (by Peter Belli)

My little boy came into the kitchen this evenin' While I was fixin' supper And he handed me a piece of paper he'd been writin' on And after wipin' my hands on my apron I read it - and this is what it said For mowin' the yard - five dollars And for makin' my own bed this week - one dollar And for goin' to the store - fifty cents An' playin' with little brother, while you went shoppin' - twenty-five cents Takin' out the trash - one dollar Gettin' a good report card - five dollars And for rakin' the yard - two dollars Total owed - fourteen seventy-five Well, I looked at 'im standin' there expectantly And a thousand mem'ries flashed through my mind So I picked up the pen, turnin' the paper over This is what I wrote For nine months I carried you Growin' inside me - No Charge For the nights I've sat up with you Doctored you, prayed for you - No Charge For the time and the tears And the cost through the years, there's No Charge When you add it all up The full cost of my love is No Charge For the nights filled with dread And the worries ahead - No Charge For advice and the knowledge And the cost of your college - No Charge For the toys, food and clothes and for wipin' your nose There's No Charge, son When you add it all up The full cost of my love, is - No Charge Well, when he finished readin' He had great big old tears in his eyes And he looked up at me and he said "Mama, I sure do love you" Then he took the pen And in great big letters He wrote: "Paid In Full" When you add it all up The cost of real love is - No Charge

    It Better End Soon
    Performer(s): Chicago

    Can't stand it no more
    The people dying
Crying for help for so many years
    But nobody hears
    Better end soon my friend
It better end soon my friend

    Can't take it no more
    The people hating
    Hurting their brothers
    They don't understand
    They can't understand
    Better end soon my friend
    It better end soon

    Hey, everybody
    Won't you just look around
    Can't anybody see?
    Just what's going down
    Can't you take the time?
    Just to feel
Just to feel what is real
    If you do
Then you'll see that we got a raw deal
    They're killing everybody
    I wish it weren't true
They say we got to make war
    Or the economy will fall
    But if we don't stop
We won't be around no more
    They're ruining this world
    For you and me
    The big heads of state
    Won't let us be free
    They made the rules once
    But it didn't work out
    Now we must try again
    Before they kill us off
    No more dying!
    No more killing
    No more dying
    No more fighting
    We don't want to die
No, we don't want to die
    Please let's change it all
    Please let's make it all
    Good for the present
    And better for the future
    Let's just love one another
Let's show peace for each other
    We can make it happen
    Let's just make it happen
    We can change this world
    Please let's change this world
Please let's make it happen for our children
    For our women
    Change the world
    Please make it happen
    Come on
    Come on
    Please
    Come on
    It's up to me
    It's up to you
    So let's do it now
    Yeah
    Do it now

    Can't stand it no more
    The people cheating
    Burning each other
    They know it ain't right
    How can it be right
    Better end soon my friend
It better end soon my friend

    No Chain At All
    Composer(s): No Chain At All
    Performer(s): Roy Orbison

Most women want to chain you
    To promises and such
    They take a little freedom
Each time they let you touch

She didn't try to chain me
    That's why I turned around
She let me taste my freedom
    And now I'm homeward bound

You know I'm headed on back to her
    I'm hearing her call
The strongest chain in the world
Is no chain at all, at all
That's why I'm headed on back to her

    She won't make me crawl
The strongest chain in the world
    Is no chain at all

    At least one pretty woman
    In every sleepy town
    Would bargain with the lovin'
And try to tie me down

I took what I was offered
    Like most men probably would
    But teasing in my memory
    Was something twice as good

You know I'm headed on back to her
    I'm hearing her call
The strongest chain in the world
Is no chain at all, at all
That's why I'm headed on back to her
    She won't make me crawl
The strongest chain in the world
Is no chain at all, at all
That's why I'm headed on back to her
    Headed on back to her
    Loving my baby

    Darcy Farrow
    Composer(s): Steve Gillette; Tom Campbell
First release by: Ian & Sylvia - 1965
    Covered by multiple other artists

Where the Walker runs down to the Carson Valley plane
There lived a maiden, Darcy Farrow was her name
The daughter of old Dundee and a fair one was she
The sweetest flower that bloomed o'er the plain

Her voice was sweet as the sugar candy
Her touch was soft as a bed of goosedown
Her eyes shone bright like the pretty lights
That shine in the night out of Yerrington Town

She was courted by young Vandermere
And quite handsome was he, as I hear
He bought her silverrings and other lacy things
And she promised to wed before the snows fell that year

But her pony did stumble and she did fall
Her dying touched the hearts of us one and all
Young Vandy in his pain put a bullet through his brain
And they buried them together as the snow began to fall

They sing of Darcy Farrow where the Truckee runs through
They sing of her beauty in Virginia City too
At dusky sundown to her name they drink a round
And to young Vandy whose love was true

    Composer(s): C. Alfonso; Silvio Rodríguez
    Performer(s): Silvio Rodríguez

    Cuando te juegas bien
    (no sólo vida, sino buscando
    latitud y nombre)
comienzas a ganar la gran partida
lejos del animal, cerca del hombre

No basta presentar el pecho al plomo
    no basta enarbolar feroces lemas
la justicia azotar debe tu lomo
hasta llevarte allá, donde más quema

A veces defender a un compañero
de la calumnia, es más que ir a la guerra
A veces la verdad de largo vuelo
es lo más cotidiano de la tierra

    and various other artists

No arms can ever hold you
    Like these arms of mine
No heart can ever love you
    Like this heart of mine

My dreams can all come true
    If you'll care for me

This love that I feel for you
    Was just meant to be

No lips can ever kiss you
    Like these lips of mine
    No one can ever offer
    What I offer you

My heart, my love are yours
    Til the end of time
No arms can ever hold you
    Like these arms of mine

No lips can ever kiss you
    Like these lips of mine
    No one can ever offer
    What I offer you

My heart, my love are yours
    Til the end of time
No arms can ever hold you

    Composer(s): Cy Coleman; Carolyn Leigh
First release by: Tony Bennett - 1958
    Covered by multiple other artists

    My height, just average
    My weight, just average
My IQ is like you'd estimate, just average
But evidently she does not agree
Consequently if I seem at sea...

    It amazes me
    It simply amazes me
What she sees in me dazzles me
    Dazes me
That I've learned to clip my wings
    And soften my ways
These are ordinary things unworthy of praize
Yet she praizes my just knowing I try for
When so many would, if they could, die for her
I'm the one who's worthy, wize
    And nothing much fazes me
But to see me in her eyes.....

    It just amazes me

    Baby, frozen tears
It was hard through the years
I never give up never one of my dreams
And deep inside is my love still alive
And God only knows that I can't let you go
Whem I'm in love, it will be for ever
I gave you my heart forever and ever

No arms can ever hold you more than I do
No man can never love you, oh, babe, it's true
No arms can ever hold you more than I do
You came to me from heaven
    Girl, it's true
And if I ever lose your love
And if I ever lose your heart
Oh baby, I'm dying for your love

    Baby, now I'm alone
And I try to be strong
But my baby I cry silent tears without a cry
And I can't hold on to the feeling that's gone
And there's nothing to lose 'cause I'm playing the fool
When I'm in love it will be for better
Gave you my heart forever and ever

And if I ever lose your love
If I ever lose your heart
Baby, I'm dying for your love
And if I ever lose your smile
If I ever lose your heart
    Everbody needs someone to love
    And I say

Cigarettes, Cigars Composer(s): Mack Gordon - Harry Revel Performer(s): Ruth Etting; Florence Desmond

I was one of those hicks That came here from the sticks Trying to find the kind of fame The name of Broadway stands for I was one of those fools Who dreamed of riches and jewels Now I awake, find my mistake I'll get a break, Broadway's a fake! I work in a speak that's dim and dingy Where standers are pretenders, cheap and stingy All I smell is rotten scotch and ginger Cigarettes, cigars! Now I've learned what smoking coke and snow means Among the guys who've never learned what "no" means You ask me do I know what making dough means Cigarettes, cigars! To heaven I just send up My lonely plea Is this where I must end up Oh, good Lord, answer me! Every evening as the night life dies out I walk home to sleep and weep my eyes out Can't you hear a broken heart that cries out Cigarettes, cigars! Cigarettes, cigars! Say, have you ever seen Broadway when its glamour is gone When the nightclubs are closing and the whole world is dozing and sleeping until the dawn? Why, all its glory and splendor and marvelous sights They all fade out together as they turn out the lights With street beggars mumbling, milk wagons rumbling, dream castles tumbling in the air Oh, it's lonesome and weary, friendless and dreary, a pitiful sight of despair! Every evening as the night life dies out I walk home to sleep and weep my eyes out Can't you hear a broken heart that cries out Cigarettes, cigars! Cigarettes! Cigars! Cigarettes! Cigars!

    No Anchovies, Please
    Composer(s): Justman; Wolf
    Performer(s): J. Geils Band

This is the story of a young couple in Portland, Maine

While waiting for her husband Don to return home from work
she reaches for a can of anchovies
As she spreads the tiny fish across a piece of lettuce
she notices a small note at the bottom of the can
Written on it is a telephone number
Curious, she dials, and is told
"Don't move, lady, we'll be right over"
Placing the phone back on the hook
she turns to see three smartly dressed men standing in her kitchen doorway
Before she realizes what is happening to her
she is rolled tightly in long sheets of cellophane
transported to an international airport, and placed on a waiting jet-liner
All this being too much for her to comprehend, she passes out

Upon awakening, she finds herself in a strange, foreign speaking nation
("Dalas nekcihc dna tihs nekcihc neewteb ecnereffid eht wonk ot suineg a ekat t'nseod ti")
    Alone, fearing her escape impossible
she seeks comfort in the arms of a confidential agent
With the trace of her kiss still warm upon his lips
he betrays her to the hands of three scientists
who are engaged in diabolical avant-garde experiments
previously performed only on insects and other small, meaningless creatures
Using her as their subject, they are delighted with the results
For the first time, a human being is transformed into a ("shhh... it's secret")

    Meanwhile, back in Portland, Maine...

Her husband Don, now chain-smoking 40 packs of cigarettes a day
sits at a local bar and has a few beers with the regulars
Bored, everyone's attention turns to the television set that just hangs from the wall
    ("Welcome to Bowling for Dollars")
    Suddenly, crazy Al says
"S-say, Don, there sure is something familiar about that bowling ball"
To which a terrified Don replies
    "Oh my God!
    That bowling ball!
    It's my wife!"

And the lesson we learn from this story is
next time you place your order
    don't forget to say
    "No anchovies please"

    It All Depends On You
Composer(s): Lew Brown; Buddy DeSylva; Ray Henderson
First performance by: Al Jolson (Stage Production) - 1925
    Covered by multiple other artists

    Lovers depend on moonlight
    For a love affair
    Babies depend on mothers
    For their tender care
    Flowers depend on sunshine
    And the morning dew
    Each thing depends on something
    And I depend on you

I can be happy, I can be sad
I can be good or I can be bad
    It all depends on you
I can be lonely out in a crowd
I can be humble, I can be proud
    It all depends on you
I can save money, or spend it
Go right on living, or end it
    You're to blame, Honey
    For what I do
I know that I can be beggar
    I can be King
I can be almost any old thing
    It all depends on you

Isn't it sweet to know, Dear
    You can help me on
Wouldn't it hurt to know, Dear
    All my hopes were gone
Wouldn't it make you proud, Dear
    If I made a name
But if I failed to win, dear
Would you want all the blame

I can be happy, I can be sad
I can be good or I can be bad
    It all depends on you
I can be lonely out in a crowd
I can be humble, I can be proud
    It all depends on you
I can save money, or spend it
Go right on living, or end it
    You're to blame, honey
    For what I do
I know that I can be beggar
    I can be King
I can be almost any old thing
    It all depends on you
Yes, it all depends on you

    Son dos letras solamente
Las que estan entre tu y yo
    Son dos letras solamente
    Y que juntas dicen no

    No, no, no
    Que bonita es la palabra
    No, no, no
Si me dices no te vayas
    No, no, no
Pero en cambio yo me muero
Si me dices no te quiero
    No, no, no, no, no

    Nunca digas no te quiero
    Porque matas nuestro amor
    Dime siempre no te olvido
Porque asi me gusta el no

But I Do, You Know I Do!
    Composer(s): Gus Kahn; Walter Donaldson
    Performer(s): Ruth Etting

I keep trying to, I'm just dying to
Get you out of my mind
But that's hard to do with somebody you love
I've denied it, I've tried to hide it
    But every evening I find
You're the one that I keep thinking of

I shouldn't mind if you find someone new
But I do, you know I do
    I shouldn't care if you're here or you're there
But I do, you know I do

I know you love to flit around
While I just sit around and wonder
    What's become of you
    I know that I shouldn't mope
    Shouldn't hope you're lonesome, too
But I do, you know I do

I keep saying and I keep praying
    That I'll forget you somehow
But the more I try seems the more that I pine
While you're dancing and out romancing
With those you care about now
Do you think of days when you were mine

I shouldn't mind if you find someone new
But I do, you know I do
    I shouldn't care if you're here or you're there
But I do, you know I do

I know you love to flit around
While I just sit around and wonder
    What's become of you
    I know that I shouldn't mope
    Shouldn't hope you're lonesome, too
But I do, you know I do, do, do, do, do

    Composer(s): Luis Eduardo Aute
    Performer(s): Luis Eduardo Aute

Hay un niño en la playa
    detenido en la orilla
    hay un niño que grita
    con profunda agonía

    Entre mares de infamia
    y una arena sin vida
    hay un niño que grita
    su dolor noche y día

    Performer(s): Scorpions

    Yeah!

    Takes my dinner
    Drinks my beer
    Spends my money
    But I don't care

    She's my love
    She's my dear
    Lovely Sarah
    I miss her

    Ahhh!
    Yeah!
