Christmas Eve (Johnny Mathis)

Christmas Eve Composer(s): Allyn Ferguson - Sidney Shaw Performer(s): Johnny Mathis

Moonlight shining on the mistletoe
Carols singing in the snow
Soon will come the finest hour I know
It's Christmas eve

Candles lighting windows everywhere
Season's greetings fill the air
Santa travelling every thoroughfare
It's Christmas eve

There's a legend that some wise men say is true
Fall in love on Christmas eve and love lasts your whole life through
Winter evening of the holy birth
Night time full of joy and mirth
Goodwill to all and peace on earth
It's Christmas eve

Goodwill to all and peace on earth
It's Christmas eve

It's Always You

It's Always You
Composer(s): Jimmy Van Heusen; Johnny Burke
First recording/First release by: Bing Crosby - 1940/1941
Covered by multiple other artists

Whenever it's early twilight
I watch till a star breaks through
Funny it's not a star I see, it's always you

Whenever I roam through roses
And lately I often do
Funny it's not a rose I touch, it's always you

If a breeze caresses me, it's really you strolling by
If I hear a melody, it's merely the way you sigh

Wherever you are, you're near me
You dare me to be untrue
Funny, each time I fall in love, it's always you

Christmas Eve (Celine Dion)

Christmas Eve Composer(s): Maria Christensen - Curt Frasca Performer(s): Celine Dion; Keres Katia

Snow falling gently to the ground
'Tis the night before
And in my heart there is no doubt
That this is gonna be
The brightest holiday
'Cause here you are with me
Baby, baby, I can't wait
To spend this special time of year with someone who
Makes me feel the special way that you do
Walkin' with you in a winter's snow
Kissin' underneath the mistletoe
People smiling everywhere we go
It's Christmas Eve and they can see we're in love
Ooh, you make the season bright
With the lights reflected in your eyes
All my dreams are comin' true tonight
It's Christmas Eve and I can see we're in love
We'll stay up late tonight
Decorate the tree
Just look into my eyes
And I will tell you truthfully
That I don't need no Santa Claus
To hear my Christmas wish
I got you in my arms
And what could be a better gift

It's Always 4 A.M.

It's Always 4 A.M.
Composer(s): Sammy Cahn; Ron Anthony
Performer(s): Shirley Bassey
and multiple other artists

The world is cold, the night is still
The dream is old, and so's a thrill
Some cool DJ, begins to play, a Wes Montgomerys score
When you're all alone
It's always four a.m.
It had to last, it would go on
But once it's passed, it's passed and gone
You just pretend, it didn't end
But make believe the blower
When you're all alone
It's always four a.m.

Your thoughts take wings, but nothing brings
That needed bit of slumber
The phone then rings, your pour heart sings
You left the phone, wrong number
The sun is bright, the sky's a blaze
But still it's night, there are no days
And worst of all, right down the hall
There's laughter through the door
When you're all alone
It's always four a.m.

Your thoughts take wings, but nothing brings
That needed bit of slumber
The phone then rings, your pour heart sings
You left the phone, wrong number
The sun is bright, the sky's a blaze
But still it's night, there are no days
And worst of all, right down the hall
There's laughter through the door
When you're all alone
It's always four a.m.
When you're all alone
It's always four a.m.

I'm doing my Christmas dreaming
A little early this year
No sign of snow around
And yet I go around hearing
Jingle bells ringing in my ear

Christmas Dream

Christmas Dream Composer(s): Andrew Lloyd Weber - Tim Rice - André Heller Performer(s): Perry Como & The London Boy Singers; Simon Fisk; Maynard Williams

Watch me now, here I go!
All I need's a little snow
Starts me off, sets the theme, helps me dream my Christmas dream
Ev'ry year I dream it, hoping things will change
An end to the crying, the shouting, the dying
And I hope you will dream it too
It's Christmas, remember?
We've got to remember

So light the light
I'm home tonight.
I need you to warm me, to calm me, to love me
To help me to dream my Christmas dream

Crazy things said and done, ev'ry single day but one
Ev'ry night should, I believe, be the same as Christmas Eve
Nights should all be silent, days should all slow down
An end to the hurry, the noise and the worry
And I hope you believe that too
It's Christmas, remember?
Does no one remember?

The whole world needs a Christmas dream
We need it to warm us, to calm us, to love us
To help us to dream our Christmas dream

The whole world needs a Christmas dream
We need it to warm us, to calm us, to love us
We need it to warm us, to calm us, to love us
We need it to warm us, to calm us, to love us
To help us to dream our Christmas dream

It's All Right

It's All Right
Composer(s): Curtis Mayfield
First release by: The Impressions - 1963
Covered by multiple other artists

They say it's alright, they say it's alright
it's alright, have a good time,
cause it's alright, wo, it's alright

Now were gonna move real slow, when the lights are low
when you move it slow, it feels like mo'
cause it's alright, wo, it's alright

Now listen to the beat, and kinda tap your feet
you've got soul, everybody knows
that it's alright, wo, it's alright

When you wake up early in the morning
feeling sad like so many of us do
hum along a song, forget what's gone wrong
and surely something's gotta come to you

And you gotta say it's alright, you say it's alright, yea
it's alright, have a good time
cause it's alright, wo, it's alright

Everybody clap your hands, now give yourself a chance
you've got soul, everybody knows
that it's alright, wo, it's alright

Someday I'll find me a woman
who will love me and treat me real nice
when my loves gotta go, my love will hold
from morning, noon, and in the night

And she gonna say that it's alright, she'll say it's alright
it's alright, have a good time
cause it's alright, wo, it's alright

Everybody clap your hands, now give yourself a chance
you've got soul, everybody knows
that it's alright, wo, it's alright

You've got soul, everybody knows
that it's alright, wo, it's alright

Christmas Dinner, Country Style

Christmas Dinner, Country Style Composer(s): Ralph Freed - G. Saxon Performer(s): Bing Crosby

Mother, mother, everybody's starvin'
Mother, mother, let's eat

Hold your horses, got a million courses
And I'm fixin' a treat

Jeremiah, go and help your mother
Jay and Jonah, you too
Ezachiah, go and get your brother
Then fetch Jamie and Sue

Mother, mother, everybody's happy
Got a reason to smile

`Cause you know that I'm about to servin'
Christmas dinner country style
Christmas dinner country style

Everybody's sittin' by your head
We'll all say praise and then break bread

Put your napkin on your lap
While (?) is sided from the tap

Oh don't that turkey look divine
We'll promenade it down the line
Plenty off duck, well long (?) on white
So (?) plant it to your right

Now the sachet (?) hello met country ham
And double-sachet (?) ham
Swing to the left, and test that stuffin'
And swing to the right, a Huckleberry muffin

Time for your partner to reach across
And dosey-dose the cranberry sauce

Have another helpin' (?) one and all
And you in the roomer (?), swing to the ball
Pass a little rumsteak, if you please
And promenade the pretty bag-eyed (?) beast

When you all say cheese, dosey-dose
So much's turkey is about to explode
But you still gotta swing to the pickle twist
Choose your pie (?)

Oh dinner was grand, to say the least
So honour the lady who cooked the beast

Mother, mother, thank you for the dinner
All the fixin's were great

Nothin' to it, mighty glad to do it
Seeing how much you ate

Jeremiah, go and get your dinner
Come on father, let's eat (?)

I'm too full of turkey and the stuffin'
I ain't takin' chance
It's a very, very merry Christmas
Got a reason to smile

Mother, mother, everybody loved your

It's Almost Tomorrow

It's Almost Tomorrow
Composer(s): Gene Adkinson; Wade Buff
Performer(s): The Dream Weavers
and multiple other artists

My dearest, my darling, tomorrow is near
The sun will bring showers of sadness I fear
You lips won't be smiling, your eyes will not shine
For I know tomorrow that your love won't be mine

It's almost tomorrow, but what can I do
Your kisses all tell me that your love is untrue
I'll love you forever till stars cease to shine
And hope someday darling, that you'll always be mine

You heart was so warm dear, It now has turned cold
You no longer love me, for your memories grow old
It's almost tomorrow, for here comes the sun
But still I am hoping that tomorrow won't come

It's almost tomorrow, but what can I do
Your kisses all tell me that your love is untrue
I'll love you forever, till stars cease to shine
And hope someday darling, that you'll always be mine

That's Where My Money Goes (Loverboy)

That's Where My Money Goes
Composer(s): Alfie Zappacosta - Paul Dean - Gerald O'Brian
Performer(s): Loverboy

She's so fine, she's so eccentric
And what she buys, must be authentic
I paid up, to keep her down
I go crazy when she's not around, yeah, yeah

She's got me in the palm of her hand
But please understand
No one ever made me feel
Quite like a man
She does, oh ya
You see that little girl of mine
That's where my money goes
That's where my money goes

And I work hard (he works hard) I work overtime
It's no good, cause I can't save a dime
When I have it, I got to spend it
On my baby
'Cause I'm so dependent... ya... on love...

My friends tell me I'm out of my mind
But it's not a crime
I'II do anything to keep that girl all mine
Oh ya, all mine
She's satisfied and it shows
That's where my money goes
That's where my money goes

So take it all baby

... Now listen

My friends tell me I'm out of my mind
But it's not a crime
I'll do anything to keep that girl all mine
Oh ya, I know
She's satisfied and it shows
She's satisfied and it shows

That's where my money goes (That's where his money goes)
That's where my money goes
(That's where his money goes)
That's where my money goes (That's where his money goes)
That's where my money goes (That's where his money goes)
I'll tell ya'
She's satisfied and it shows
That's where my money goes
(That's where his money goes)
That's where my money goes
(That's where his money goes)
That's where my money goes (That's where his money goes)
That's where my money goes
That's where his money goes
Bye, bye, money, hello happiness

It's All Your Fault
Composer(s): Lamont Dozier; Brian Holland; Edward Holland Jr.
Performer(s): The Supremes

Baby, it's all your fault
You made me love you
You made me need you

Baby, it's all your fault
I keep tellin' myself
I need you and no one else

'Cause your lips
Has the kiss of fire
That takes hold to my
My every desire
When you take me in your arms
And hold me close
My heart tells me
It's you I need the most

Ooh baby, ooh baby, ooh my baby

Sweet words you speak
Is like a melody
They go on and on
Like an old sweet song
Just echoing
All through my heart
Just makes you a part
A part of me, sweetheart

Baby, it's all your fault
You made me love you
You made me need you

You've got me in your power
And there I'll remain
'Cause in my heart I know
I don't want to change

And baby, it's all your fault
I can't help myself
Oh no, I can't help myself
Ooh baby, ooh baby, ooh my baby

Christmas Dinner

Christmas Dinner Composer(s): Noel Paul Stookey Performer(s): Peter, Paul and Mary

And it came to pass on a Christmas evening
While all the doors were shuttered tight
Outside standing, lonely boy-child
Cold and shivering in the night

On the street, every window
Save but one, was gleaming bright
And to this window walked the boy-child
Peeking in saw, candle light

Through other windows he had looked at turkeys
Ducks and geese, cherry pies
But through this window saw a grey-haired lady
Table bare and tears in her eyes

Into his coat reached the boy-child
Knowing well there was little there
He took from his pocket, his own Christmas dinner
A bit of cheese, some bread to share

His outstretched hands held the food and they trembled
As the door, it opened wide
Said he, "Would you share with me Christmas dinner"
Gently said she, "Come inside"

The grey-haired lady brought forth to the table
Glasses two and her last drop of wine
Said she, "Here's a toast to everyone's Christmas
and especially, yours and mine"

And it came to pass on that Christmas evening
While all the doors were shuttered tight
That in that town, the happiest Christmas
Was shared by candle light

It's All Up To You

It's All Up To You
Performer(s): Jim Capaldi

Everyday I watched you walkin'; walkin' by my window pane
From the first time that I saw you baby, I knew I'd never be the same

I wanna give you my lovin'
Could you ever love me too?
But you never seem to notice me, or what I'm goin' through
It's all up to you

Everyday I hope you see me, maybe look at me and smile
But you always seem to look right through me
I just break down and cry

I wanna give you my lovin'
Could you ever love me too?
But you never seem to notice me, or what I'm goin' through
It's all up to you

I wanna give you my lovin'
Could you ever love me too?
But you never seem to notice me, or what I'm goin' through
It's all up to you

Come on down to my street baby
and let me make you feel a part of everything I have to offer you
of everything inside my heart

I wanna give you my lovin'
Could you ever love me too?
But you never seem to notice me, or what I'm goin' through
It's all up to you

I would give you the sunlight baby, to keep you warm the days grow cold
And the love we have together darling
It will never grow old any more
Oh baby, it's all up to you

Christmas Day In The Workhouse

Christmas Day In The Workhouse
Composer(s): George R. Sims
Performer(s): John Moffatt

It is Christmas Day in the workhouse
And the cold, bare walls are bright
With garlands of green and holly
Ad the place is a pleasant sight
For with clean-washed hands and faces
In a long and hungry line
The paupers sit at the table
For this is the hour they dine

And the guardians and their ladies
Although the wind is east
Have come in their furs and wrappers
To watch their charges feast
To smile and be condescending
Put pudding on pauper plates
To be hosts at the workhouse banquet
They've paid for — with the rates

Oh, the paupers are meek and lowly
With their "Thank'ee kindly, mum's!'"
So long as they fill their stomachs
What matter it whence it comes!
But one of the old men mutters
And pushes his plate aside
"Great God!" he cries, "but it chokes me!
For this is the day she died!"

The guardians gazed in horror
The master's face went white
"Did a pauper refuse the pudding?"
"Could their ears believe aright?"
Then the ladies clutched their husbands
Thinking the man would die
Struck by a bolt, or something
By the outraged One on high

But the pauper sat for a moment
Then rose 'mid silence grim
For the others had ceased to chatter
And trembled in every limb
He looked at the guardians' ladies
Then, eyeing their lords, he said
"I eat not the food of villains
Whose hands are foul and red

"Whose victims cry for vengeance
From their dark, unhallowed graves"
"He's drunk!" said the workhouse master
"Or else he's mad and raves"
"Not drunk or mad," cried the pauper
"But only a haunted beast
Who, torn by the hounds and mangled
Declines the vulture's feast

"I care not a curse for the guardians
And I won't be dragged away
Just let me have the fit out
It's only on Christmas Day
That the black past comes to goad me
And prey on my burning brain
I'll tell you the rest in a whisper
I swear I won't shout again

"Keep your hands off me, curse you!
Hear me right out to the end
You come here to see how paupers
The season of Christmas spend
You come here to watch us feeding
As they watched the captured beast
Here's why a penniless pauper
Spits on your paltry feast

"Do you think I will take your bounty
And let you smile and think
You're doing a noble action
With the parish's meat and drink?
Where is my wife, you traitors
The poor old wife you slew?
Yes, by the God above me
My Nance was killed by you!

'Last winter my wife lay dying
Starved in a filthy den
I had never been to the parish
I came to the parish then
I swallowed my pride in coming
For ere the ruin came
I held up my head as a trader
And I bore a spotless name

"I came to the parish, craving
Bread for a starving wife
Bread for the woman who'd loved me
Through fifty years of life
And what do you think they told me
Mocking my awful grief
That 'the House' was open to us
But they wouldn't give 'out relief'

"I slunk to the filthy alley
'Twas a cold, raw Christmas Eve
And the bakers' shops were open
Tempting a man to thieve
But I clenched my fists together
Holding my head awry
So I came to her empty-handed
And mournfully told her why

"Then I told her the house was open
She had heard of the ways of that
For her bloodless cheeks went crimson
and up in her rags she sat
Crying, 'Bide the Christmas here, John
We've never had one apart
I think I can bear the hunger
The other would break my heart'

"All through that eve I watched her
Holding her hand in mine
Praying the Lord and weeping
Till my lips were salt as brine
I asked her once if she hungered
And as she answered 'No'
T'he moon shone in at the window
Set in a wreath of snow

"Then the room was bathed in glory
And I saw in my darling's eyes
The faraway look of wonder
That comes when the spirit flies
And her lips were parched and parted
And her reason came and went
For she raved of our home in Devon
Where our happiest years were spent

"And the accents, long forgotten
Came back to the tongue once more
For she talked like the country lassie
I woo'd by the Devon shore
Then she rose to her feet and trembled
And fell on the rags and moaned
And, 'Give me a crust — I'm famished
For the love of God!' she groaned

"I rushed from the room like a madman
And flew to the workhouse gate
Crying, 'Food for a dying woman!'
And the answer came, 'Too late'
They drove me away with curses
Then I fought with a dog in the street
And tore from the mongrel's clutches
A crust he was trying to eat

"Back through the filthy byways!
Back through the trampled slush!
Up to the crazy garret
Wrapped in an awful hush
My heart sank down at the threshold
And I paused with a sudden thrill
For there, in the silv'ry moonlight
My Nance lay, cold and still

"Up to the blackened ceiling
The sunken eyes were cast
I knew on those lips, all bloodless
My name had been the last
She called for her absent husband
O God! had I but known!
Had called in vain, and, in anguish
Had died in that den — alone

"Yes, there, in a land of plenty
Lay a loving woman dead
Cruelly starved and murdered
for a loaf of the parish bread
At yonder gate, last Christmas
I craved for a human life
You, who would feed us paupers
What of my murdered wife!"

'There, get ye gone to your dinners
Don't mind me in the least
Think of the happy paupers
Eating your Christmas feast
And when you recount their blessings
In your smug parochial way
Say what you did for me, too
Only last Christmas Day"

It's All Right With Me

It's All Right With Me
Composer(s): Cole Porter
Performer(s): Bob Manning - 1953
and multiple other artists

It's the wrong time and the wrong place
Though your face is charming it's the wrong face
It's not his face, but such a charming face
That it's all right with me.

It's the wrong song in the wrong style
Though your smile is lovely it's the wrong smile
It's not his smile, but such a lovely smile
That it's all right with me.

You can't know how happy I am that we met
I`m strangely attracted to you
There is someone I'm trying so hard to forget
Don't you want to forget someone to?

You can't know how happy I am that we met
I`m strangely attracted to you
There is someone I'm trying so hard to forget
Don't you want to forget someone to?

It's the wrong game, with the wrong chips
Though you lips are tempting they're the wrong lips
They're not his lips but they're such Tempting lips
That if some night you are free
Well it's all right, yes it's all right
Baby don't you know it's all right with me

Christmas Day In The Cookhouse

Christmas Day In The Cookhouse
Performer(s): Billy Bennett

'Twas Christmas Day in the cookhouse
And the place was clean and tidy
The soldiers were eating their pancakes...
I'm a liar... that was Good Friday

In the oven a turkey was sizzling
And to make it look posh, I suppose
They fetched the Battalion Barber
To shingle it's parson's nose!

Potatoes were cooked in their jackets
And carrots in pants - how unique!
A sheep's head was baked with the eyes in
As it had to see them through the week

At one o'clock 'Dinner Up' sounded
The sight made an old soldier blush
They were dishing out Guinness for nothing
And fifteen got killed in the rush!

A jazz band played in the mess-room
A fine lot of messers it's true
We told them to go and play Ludo
And they all answered 'Fishcakes' to you!

In came the old Sergeant Major
He'd walked all the way from his billet
His toes were turned in, his chest was turned out
With his head back in case he'd spill it

He wished all the troops 'Merry Xmas'
Including the poor Orderly Man
Some said 'Good Old Sergeant Major'
But others said 'San Fairy Arm'

Then up spoke one ancient warrior
His whiskers a nest for the sparrows
The old man had first joined the army
When the troops used to use bows and arrows

His grey eyes were flashing with anger
He threw down his pudden' and cursed
'You dare to wish me a Happy New Year
Well, just hear my story first

Ten years ago, as the crow flies
I came here with my darling bride
It was Christmas Day in the Waxworks
So it must be the same outside

We asked for some food, we were starving
You gave us pease pudden' and pork
My poor wife went to the Infirmary
With a pain in her Belle of New York

You're the man that stopped bacon from shrinking
By making the cook fry with Lux
And you wound up the cuckoo clock backwards
And now it goes'oo' fore it'cucks'

So thank you, and bless you, and blow you
You just take these curses from me
May your wife give you nothing for dinner
And then warm it up for your tea

Whatever you eat, may it always repeat
Be it soup, fish, entree, or horse doovers
May blue bottles and flies descend from the skies
And use your bald head for manoeuvres

May the patent expire on your evening dress shoes
May your Marcel waves all come uncurled
May your flannel shirt shrink up the back of your neck
And expose your deceit to the world

And now that I've told you my story
I'll walk to the clink by the gate
And as for your old Xmas Pudden'
Stick that - on the next fellow's plate'

It's All Over Now, Baby Blue

It's All Over Now, Baby Blue
(Swedish Version: Sakta Lägger Båten Ut Från Land - 1978)
Composer(s): Bob Dylan
First release by: Bob Dylan - 1965
Covered by multiple other artists

You must leave now, take what you need, you think will last
But whatever you wish to keep, you better grab it fast
Yonder stands your orphan with his gun
Crying like a fire in the sun
Look out the saints are comin' through
And it's all over now, Baby Blue

The highway is for gamblers, better use your sense
Take what you have gathered from coincidence
The empty-handed painter from your streets
Is drawing crazy patterns on your sheets
This sky, too, is folding under you
And it's all over now, Baby Blue

All your seasick sailors, they are rowing home
All your reindeer armies, are all going home
The lover who just walked out your door
Has taken all his blankets from the floor
The carpet, too, is moving under you
And it's all over now, Baby Blue

Leave your stepping stones behind, something calls for you
Forget the dead you've left, they will not follow you
The vagabond who's rapping at your door
Is standing in the clothes that you once wore
Strike another match, go start anew

Christmas Day (The Beach Boys)

Christmas Day
Composer(s): Brian Wilson
Performer(s): The Beach Boys; Husky Team

The Christmas spirit grows with each new day
And it's so close but seems so far away
And yet it comes only once a year
And 'fore you know it, it's already here
The streets are filled with laughter
And so many hearts are gay

Everybody helps to make the spirit bright
The houses turn on their Christmas lights at night
It's worth the wait the whole year through
Just to make happy someone like you
And I'll never outgrow the thrill of Christmas day

It's worth the wait the whole year through
Just to make happy someone like you
And I'll never outgrow the thrill of Christmas day

It's worth the wait the whole year through
Just to make happy someone like you

It's All Over Now (The Valentinos)

It's All Over Now
(French Version: Entre Nous C'est Fini - 1964)
Composer(s): Bobby Womack; Shirley Jean Womack
First release by: The Valentinos - 1964
Covered by multiple other artists

Well, baby used to stay out all night long
She made me cry, she done me wrong
She hurt my eyes open, that's no lie
Tables turn and now her turn to cry

Because I used to love her, but it's all over now
Because I used to love her, but it's all over now

Well, she used to run around with every man in town
She spent all my money, playing her high class game
She put me out, it was a pity how I cried
Tables turn and now her turn to cry

Because I used to love her, but it's all over now
Because I used to love her, but it's all over now

Well, I used to walk in the morning, get my breakfast in bed
When I'd gotten worried she'd ease my aching head
But now she's here and there, with every man in town
Still trying to take me for that same old clown

Because I used to love her, but it's all over now
Because I used to love her, but it's all over now
Because I used to love her, but it's all over now
Because I used to love her, but it's all over now
