What Kind Of Fool Am I? (Sammy Davis Jr.)

What Kind Of Fool Am I?
Composer(s): Leslie Bricusse; Anthony Newley
Performer(s): Sammy Davis Jr.;
and various other artists

What kind of fool am I
Who never fell in love
It seems that I'm the only one
that I have been thinking of

What kind of man is this?
An empty shell
A lonely cell in which
an empty heart must dwell

What kind of lips are these
That lied with every kiss
That whispered empty words of love
that left me alone like this

Why can't I fall in love
Like any other man
And maybe then I'll know what kind of fool I am

What kind of clown am I?
What do I know of life?
Why can't I cast away the mask of play
and live my life?

Why can't I fall in love
Till I don't give a damn
And maybe then
I'll know what kind of fool I am

After Five Long Years

After Five Long Years
Composer(s): Willie Dixon
Performer(s): Willie Dixon

After five long years I'm gonna make love
After five long years I'm gonna make love
After five long years I'm gonna make love
I'm gonna make love to you

After one long year I was watching you baby
After two long years you was driving me crazy
After three long years you know you still looked fine
After four long years I was out of my mind
After five long years I'm gonna make love to you

After one long year you had me lonesome and blue
After two long years I was begging you
After three long years you wouldn't change your mind
After four long years but I kept on trying
After five long years I'm gonna make love to you

After one long year I tried to be cool
After two long years I was just your tool
After three long years I was on the spot
After four long years well look what you got
After five long years I'm gonna make love to you

What Kind Of Fool Am I? (Rick Springfield)

What Kind Of Fool Am I?
Composer(s): Rick Springfield
Performer(s): Rick Springfield

I wonder who she’s seeing tonight
Is she really going out with him
He’s not her type
And doing all the things she used to do to me
Well, I’d say something to her
But I get so jealous
When I think of her loving somebody else
That I can’t think why we ever let go
I must have been crazy

Tell me what kind of fool am I
To just let go,
To just let go like that
What kind of fool am I
To lose you

She was cold sometimes
But she made me feel alive
She was such a spoiled baby
But baby, she could love
And she loved me like nobody ever will again
I thought we’d be together
When the world ran down
When the curtain fell and the lights came up
But the gods or whatever make the world go round
Shuffled when they should have cut

Tell me what kind of fool am I
To just let go
To just let go like that
What kind of fool am I
To lose you

Did it come too easy to the two of us
Did we go too wrong to ever make it right
Were we too busy checking out the left hand
That we didn’t see the right

Tell me what kind of fool am I
To just let go
To just let go like that
What kind of fool am I

Oh baby, please, oh baby, please come back
I meant to say in time
Baby we could work it out
But I never meant to say goodbye

Tell me what kind of fool am I
What kind of fool am I
What kind of fool am I
To lose you

After Effects (From Loving You)

After Effects (From Loving You)
Composer(s): Harry Mills
Performer(s): Ray Price

Nights are longer when you're blue and all alone
Seems eternity will pass before the dawn
I've tried ev'rything, but I can't seem to lose
All these after effects from lovin' you

Now I may tell myself that I'll find an easy way
To escape this misery from day to day
But my heart knows good and well, it's only you
Who can ease my troubled mind
And erase the pain they find
From the after effects of loving you

Now I may tell myself that I'll find an easy way
To escape this misery from day to day
But my heart knows good and well, it's only you
Who can ease my troubled mind
And erase the pain you find
From the after effects of loving you

What Kind Of Fool (Do You Think I Am)

What Kind Of Fool (Do You Think I Am)
Dutch Title: Wat Voor Een Gek Denk Je Dat Ik Ben
Composer(s): Ray Whitley
Performer(s): The Tams

What kind of fool do you think I am
You think you can go on seeing him
Darling after we made our plans
You said I'd be your number one man

What kind of fool (Do you think I am?)
Do you think I am now (Do you think I am?)

What kind of fool did you think I'd be
You said you really really loved me
Darling you run around all over town
You build me up then you let me down

What kind of fool (Do you think I am?)
Do you think I am now? (Do you think I am?)

I ain't gonna be your second choice
I've got to be your number one
Or I ain't gonna love you at all

Darling you run around all over town
You build me up then you let me down

What kind of fool (Do you think I am?)
Do you think I am now (Do you think I am?)
(Do you) Think I am?

Darling you can't think that
Darling I'm no fool
What kind of foo-oo-ool

Grandpa Can't Fly His Kite

Grandpa Can't Fly His Kite
Composer(s): Clarence Carter - Pat Cooley
Performer(s): Clarence Carter

I went down to the bar to have myself a drink
'Cause Grandpa had given me some news and I had to think
The bartender said "Have a drink of gin, 'cause drinkin' gin ain't no sin"
But I told the bartender that drinkin' gin won't let your nature bend

Grandpa can't fly his kite
'Cause Grandma won't give it no tail, no
So you see, I've got to use what Mother Nature gave me
Before Father Time takes it away, yeah

The mother rabbit told the father rabbit
She said "Sex ain't nothin' but a habit"
The father rabbit told the mother rabbit
"Well, baby, shoot the habit to me rabbit"

The male bee makes love to the queen bee
Until she cries
He knows when he finishes makin' love to her
He's surely gonna die.

But you see, Grandpa can't fly his kite
'Cause Grandma won't give it no tail, no
So I'm gonna use what Mother Nature gave me
Before Father Time takes it away, yeah

I told you, I got sixteen inches
And it's four inches thick
And the first day I don't need love
I'll take gravely sick

I feel sorry for Grandpa
Because I know what he wants to do
And that's how come I came over to your house
Because I got to make love to you

You see, Grandpa can't fly his kite
'Cause Grandma won't give no tail, no, shake it
So I got to use what Mother Nature gave me
Before Father Time takes it away, yeah

I went to see my doctor, just the other day
He said, "Clar, you won't last too long if you don't slow down the pace"
I said, "Listen, doctor, good lovin' ain't no sin
But if that good stuff kill me, then let me go with the breeze"

Grandpa can't fly his kite
'Cause Grandma won't give no tail, no
So I got to use what Mother Nature gave me
Before Father Time takes it away, yeah

One more ...

Grandpa and Grandma were layin' in the bed
And Grandpa turned over, and this is what he said.
He said, "Wake up Grandma, don't sleep so damned sly
'Cause that ain't what you promised when we first laid down"

Grandpa can't fly his kite
'Cause Grandma won't give no tail, yeah, yeah, yeah
So I got to use what Mother Nature gave me
Before Father Time takes it away, yeah

What It Was, Was Football

What It Was, Was Football
Composer(s): Andy Griffith
Performer(s): Andy Griffith

It was back last October, I believe it was
We was going to hold a tent service off at this college town
and we got there about dinner time on Saturday
Different ones of us thought that we ought to get us a mouthful to eat
before we set up the tent
So we got off the truck and followed this little bunch of people
through this small little bitty patch of woods there
and we came up on a big sign that says
"Get something to Eat Here"

I went up and got me two hot dogs and a big orange drink
and before I could take a mouthful of that food
this whole raft of people come up around me
and got me to where I couldn't eat nothing, up like
and I dropped my big orange drink
Well, friends, they commenced to move
and there wasn't so much that I could do but move with them

Well, we commenced to go through all kinds of doors and gates and I don't know what all
and I looked up over one of 'em and it says, "North Gate"
We kept on a-going through there
and pretty soon we come up on a young boy and he says, "Ticket, please"
And I says, "Friend, I don't have a ticket
I don't even know where it is that I'm a-going!"
Well, he says, "Come on out as quick as you can"
And I says, "I'll do 'er; I'll turn right around the first chance I get"

Well, we kept on a-moving through there
and pretty soon everybody got where it was that they was a-going
because they parted and I could see pretty good
And what I seen was this whole raft of people a-sittin' on these two banks
and a-lookin at one another across this pretty little green cow pasture

Somebody had took and drawed white lines all over it and drove posts in it
and I don't know what all
and I looked down there and I seen five or six convicts a running up and down
and a-blowing whistles
And then I looked down there and I seen these pretty girls
wearin' these little bitty short dresses
and a-dancing around, and so I thought I'd sit down
and see what it was that was a-going to happen

About the time I got set down good I looked down there
and I seen thirty or forty men come a-runnin' out of one end
of a great big outhouse down there
and everybody where I was a-settin' got up and hollered!
And I asked this fella that was a sittin' beside of me
"Friend, what is it that they're a-hollerin' for?
Well, he whopped me on the back and he says
"Buddy, have a drink!" I says
"Well, I believe I will have another big orange
I got it and set back down

When I got there again I seen
that the men had got in two little bitty bunches down there
real close together, and they voted
They elected one man apiece
and them two men come out in the middle of that cow pasture
and shook hands like they hadn't seen one another in a long time
Then a convict came over to where they was a-standin'
and he took out a quarter and they commenced to odd man right there!
After a while I seen what it was they was odd-manning for
It was that both bunchesfull of them wanted this funny lookin little pumpkin to play with
And I know, friends, that they couldn't eat it because they kicked it the whole evenin'
and it never busted

Both bunchesful wanted that thing
One bunch got it and it made the other bunch just as mad as they could be!
Friends, I seen that evenin' the awfulest fight that I ever have seen in all my life !!
They would run at one -another and kick one- another
and throw one another down and stomp on one another
and grind their feet in one another and I don't know what all
and just as fast as one of 'em would get hurt
they'd take him off and run another one on!!

Well, they done that as long as I set there, but pretty soon this boy that had said
"Ticket, please." He come up to me and said
"Friend, you're gonna have to leave because it is that you don't have a ticket"
And I says, "Well, all right"
And I got up and left

I don't know friends, to this day
what it was that they was a doin' down there, but I have studied about it
I think it was that it's some kindly of a contest
where they see which bunchful of them men can take that pumpkin
and run from one end of that cow pasture to the other
without gettin' knocked down or steppin' in somethin'

After Dark

After Dark
Composer(s): Barry Gibb
Performer(s): Andy Gibb

There's not anything I would not do to ease your troubled mind
Where you are, there is a different feeling
I wake up, I'm on the ceilin', opens up your eyes
What a shape! Someone you can't forget for any time
Oh, let me show you mine, immediately

After dark where the lights start fading sweet and low
I wanna be there, I wanna be there
We leave immediately
After dark where the lights start fading sweet and low
I wanna be there, I wanna be there
We leave immediately
After dark

There is no limit that I would not go
if I could lie beside
Where you are, there is a different out there
Love in the jungle can be hard to realize
What a shape ! Someone you can't forget for any time
Oh, let me show you mine immediately

After dark where the lights are fading sweet and low
I wanna be there, I wanna be there
We leave immediately
After dark where the lights are fading sweet and low
I wanna be there, I wanna be there
We leave immediately
After dark

There is not anything I would not do to ease your troubled mind
Where you are, there is a different feeling
I wake up, I'm on the ceilin', opens up your eyes
What a shape! Someone you can't forget for any time
Oh, let me show you mine immediately

After dark where the lights start fading sweet and low
I wanna be there, I wanna be there
We leave immediately
After dark where the lights start fading sweet and low
I wanna be there, I wanna be there
We leave immediately
After dark

After dark where the lights start fading sweet and low
I wanna be there, I wanna be there
We leave immediately
After dark where the lights start fading sweet and low
I wanna be there, I wanna be there
We leave immediately
After dark ...

What It Is

What It Is
Composer(s): Mark Knopfler
Performer(s): Mark Knopfler

The drinking dens are spilling out
There’s staggering in the square
There’s lads and lasses falling about
And a crackling in the air
Down around the dungeon doors
The shelters in the queues
Everybody’s looking for
Somebody’s arms to fall into
And it’s what it is
It’s what it is now

There’s frost on the graves and the monuments
But the taverns are warm in town
People curse the government
And shovel hot food down
The lights are out in city hall
The castle and the keep
The moon shines down upon it all
The legless and asleep

And it’s cold on a tollgate
With the wagons creeping through
Cold on a tollgate
God knows what I could do with you
And it’s what it is
It’s what it is now

The garrison sleeps and the citadel
With the ghosts and the ancient stones
High on the parapet
A scottish piper stands alone
And high on the wind
The highland drums begin to roll
And something from the past just comes
And stares into my soul

And it’s cold on a tollgate
Where the caledonian blues
Cold on a tollgate
God knows what I could do with you
And it’s what it is
It’s what it is now
What it is
It’s what it is now

There’s a chink of light
There’s a burning wick
There’s a lantern in the tower
Wee willie winkie with a candlestick
Still writing songs in the wee wee hours
On charlotte street I take
A walking stick from my hotel
The ghost of dirty dick
Is still in search of little nell
And it’s what it is
It’s what it is now
Oh it’s what it is
What it is now

After All You Said

After All You Said
Composer(s): Roger Steen - Fee Waybill
Performer(s): The Tubes

I guess you're still too wild
after all you said
and did not mean

What hides behind the smile
after all you said
and made believe

Riding line doesn't sound so bad
Just the wide open spaces
Lots of time to reflect the past
Lots of time to forget your face

Someone
I thought we talked about it all
Somewhere
Who wrote the writing on the wall
Somehow
It just took some time to reveal
Someone
The lies were painfully real

Imagine for so long
after all you said
and would not say
Illusions are all wrong
after all you said
and could explain

Riding line doesn't sound so bad
Just the wide open spaces

Someone
I thought we talked about it all
Somewhere
Who wrote the writing on the wall
Somehow
It just took some time to reveal
Someone
The lies were painfully real

No more tears
after all you said

Can't expect the clouds to clear
if you're left in darkness
Your reflection's not in the mirror
I suspect you're heartless

What Is Wrong, What Is Right

What Is Wrong, What Is Right
Composer(s): Keith Hopwood; Derek Leckenby; Harvey Lisberg
Performer(s): Herman's Hermits

She's stroking her cat with her silken fingers
A would-be charmer whose life's incomplete
I'm working so hard to try and get to know her
Her parents say who she sees and who she meets

Always on her own
Walking through the city
Doesn't want to know
If anyone should try to pick her up
She'll put them down

She only drinks at the dining table
She's not allowed to stay up late at night
Her only joy is the riding stable
Her parents say what is wrong and what is right

Always on her own
Walking through the city
Doesn't want to know
If anyone should try to pick her up
She'll put them down

The day will come when she'll see the time she's wasted
She's twenty-one and without their guiding light
There's so many things that she's never tasted
Who'll be there to say what is wrong and what is right

After All This Time

After All This Time
Composer(s): Tony Hadley - S. Tongue
Performer(s): Tony Hadley

Your promises are perfect
Your courage makes so strong
Holding on to something
How can this dream be wrong, oh

When you trust somebody
And all the thoughts they hold
Through good or bad you follow
Cause of the love you show

Oh it must be there for love
You know it must be there for love

After all this time
I can see the world so clearly
After all this time
After all this time
After all this time

Where ever life can take us
Whatever road you try
No matter what the reason
We're always by your side, oh

You felt the world against you
And you know we feel it too
But now we come together
Our spirit pulls us through

Oh it must be there for love
You know it must be there for love

After all this time
I can see the world so clearly
After all this time
After all this time
After all this time

Oh you know they say
That faith can save the day
And so it must be there for love
It must be there for love

And though you feel her pain
There's nothing you can say
But I'll still be there for love
I'll still be there for love
Must be there for love

After all this time
After all this time
After all this time
After all this time

After all this time
I can see the world so clearly
After all this time
After all this time
After all this time

What Is True?

What Is True?
Composer(s): Sandy Denny
Performer(s): Fairport Convention

Silver tongues are speaking long and hard into the night
I must be myself and I'll do alright
Oh, please my darling, do not make me sad
Late at night nobody really wants to feel that bad
The rain it beats impatiently upon the window pane
I must close my ears or I'll go insane
Can't you be a gentle breeze or silent as a snowfall
Won't you try and listen for the voice behind the wall
It cries to you

chorus:
Even though it only ever whispers part of what it knows
And it's never ventured through the locks
Where the brazen river flows
It's the fingerprint which is never made
It's the perfume of a rose
And it is there if you are searching
But the moment must be right
As the night is black, as the day is white
Please my friend, help to make me glad
Help me find the one and only thing I've never had
What is true

chorus

After All These Years (Norma Zimmer)

After All These Years
Composer(s): Fred Spielman - Janice Torre
Performer(s): Norma Zimmer

After all these years, after all my tears
After all the lonely days I’ve known
Now I have a son, such a tiny one
Like a little doll, but a baby all my own
Now my world is bright
Things have turned out right
After all my doubts and all my fears
You belong to me and we’ll live happily
Together ever after all these years

You belong to me and we’ll live happily
Together ever after all these years

What Is This Thing Called Love?

What Is This Thing Called Love?
Composer(s): Cole Porter
Performer(s): Frank Sinatra

I was a humdrum person
Leading a life apart
When love flew in through my window wide
And quickened my hum-drum heart
Love flew in through my window
I was so happy then
But after love had stayed a little while
Love flew out again

What is this thing called love?
This funny thing called love?
Just who can solve its mystery?
Why should it make a fool of me?
I saw you there one wonderful day
You took my heart and threw it away
That's why I ask the Lord in Heaven above
What is this thing called love?

You gave me days of sunshine
You gave me nights of cheer
You made my life an enchanted dream
'Til somebody else came near
Somebody else came near you
I felt the winter's chill
And now I sit and wonder night and day
Why I love you still?

After All These Years
Composer(s): B. Coleman - O. Kennedy
Performer(s): Foster & Allen
and multiple other artists

My darling come to me
Sit you down easily
And rest awhile near the soft fire light
Cold is the night

But warm is my heart with pride
Having you by my side
You're still my guiding light
After a-all these years

Your soft assuring ways
The rock I lean on
Saw me through my darkest days
When all hope had go-o-one

You're still the only one
I'll ever hold near
And I love you
After a-all these years

Time from me passes on
And I'm growing old
A lifetime nearly gone
I cannot unfold, nights dark and cold

But warm is your hand in mine
Feeble with aimless time
The light of love still shines
After a-all these years

Your soft assuring ways
The rock I lean on
Saw me through my darkest days
When all hope had go-o-one

You're still the only one
I'll ever hold near
And I love you
After a-all these years

Time from me passes on
And I'm growing old
A lifetime nearly gone
I cannot unfold, nights dark and cold

But warm is your hand in mine
Feeble with aimless time
The light of love still shines

What Is There To Say?

What Is There To Say?
Composer(s): Vernon Duke; E.Y. "Yip" Harburg
Performer(s): Ella Fitzgerald

Darling, pardon my confusion
But are you an optical illusion?
And if not, then what on earth are you doing to me?
If my speech is willy nilly
It's because I cannot guild the lilly
I should love to sing your praises
But phrases and words are silly

What is there to say?
And what is there to do?
The dream I've been seeking has, practic'ly speaking
Come true

What is there to say?
And how will I pull through?
I knew in a moment contentment and home meant just you

You are so lovable, so livable
Your beauty is just unforgiveable
You're made to marvel at, and words to that effect

What is there to say?
And what is there to do?
My heart's in a deadlock
I'd even face wedlock with you

I knew in a moment contentment and home meant just you, so
What is there to say?
And what is there to do?
My heart's in a deadlock
I'd even face wedlock with you

After All The Time

After All The Time
Performer(s): Pedro Aznar

After all the time that has passed
The wound remains inside and hasn't healed
How crazy are the things
that the soul whimsically decides to keep

After my thoughts denied you
after my heart grew silent
the coals are still red
how useless it is to try to forget

I saw you in a dream again, yesterday
I must confess
Only by singing I could talk to you
Good morning, heartache
Here we go again
After such a long time
After such a long time

After all the wind that blew
the ship remains still and did not sink
It doesn't moor in any port
nor will it go to open sea, it waited for you

After all the time that has passed
I know there is no meeting between us
This song belongs to you
keep it before it runs away
just like you did

What Is Soul?

What Is Soul?
Composer(s): Bob Gallo; Ben E. King
Performer(s): Ben E. King;
and various other artists

What is soul?
What is soul, babe?

Some few people really know
It's deep within us, it doesn't show
A soul is somethin' that comes from deep inside
But a soul is a somethin' that you can't hide

What is soul?
What is soul, babe?

Search your heart, go deep down low
Way down there you'll find your soul
Come near girl, you look so cold
Touch my hand and warm your soul

Baby, baby, what's wrong with you
You don't know what I'm going through
Hold me so tight, so tight I can't breath
Can't you feel it girl?
Don't you know what I mean?
This is soul!

This is soul!
Feel the soul, babe!
What is soul, babe?
Don't you know?
What is soul, babe? ....

After All The Good Is Gone

After All The Good Is Gone
Composer(s): Floyd Cramer - Conway Twitty
Performer(s): Conway Twitty
and multiple other artists

Today I got a letter from someone
Just a friend we knew some time ago
And as I read between the lines
I began to realize
He didn't know I'd lost you
A long long time ago
Oh, I, just can't make it any longer
Everything I do is always wrong
I'm just living a lie
And there's no use in trying
To keep hanging on
After all the good is gone

Lord I wish that I could die
And there's no use in trying
To keep hanging on
After all the good is gone
