Chain Of Fools

Chain Of Fools ((Italian Version: Ciao Ciao Ciao (Rocky Roberts & I Pirañas) - 1967)) Composer(s): Don Covay First release by: Aretha Franklin - 1967 Covered by multiple other artists

Chain, chain, chain (chain, chain, chain)
Chain, chain, chain (chain, chain, chain)
Chain, chain, chain (chain, chain, chain)
Chain of fools

For five long years I thought you were my man
But I found out I'm just a link in your chain.
You got me where you want me
I ain't nothin' but your fool
You treated me mean
Ooh, you treated me cruel

Chain, chain, chain (chain, chain, chain)
Chain of fools

Every chain has got a weak link
And I might be weak, child
But I'll give you strength

You told me to leave you alone
My father said, "Come on home"
My doctor said, "Take it easy"
But your lovin' is much too strong
I'm welded to your...

Chain, chain, chain (chain, chain, chain)
Chain of fools
Chain, chain, chain (chain, chain, chain)
Chain of fools

One of these mornings the chain is gonna break
But up until then I'm gonna take all I can take

(repeat):
Chain, chain, chain (chain, chain, chain)
Chain of fools
Chain, chain, chain (chain, chain, chain)
Chain of fools

Friend And A Lover

Friend And A Lover
Composer(s): Wes Farrell; Danny Janssen; Bobby Hart
Performer(s): David Cassidy & The Partridge Family

Na na na na na, na na na na na, na na na na na
Na na na na na na na, na na na na na, na na na na na
Na na na na na, na na na na na na na

Caught in a dead end, you took the wrong bend
To you I'm your friend, but I wanna be your lover
Caught in a hurricane, out in the cold rain
Couldn't make it much plainer, but you
Still can't discover that I wanna be your lover

Na na na na na, na na na na na, na na na na na
Na na na, na na na na, na na na na na
Na na na na na na na

Night and day, day and night, night and day and night
Whoa! I need you by my side
Inside, outside, upside down
Ev'rything is turned around without you

Up on a tight rope, below is no hope
'Cause I'm only a friend and I wanna be your lover
Caught in a landslide, feel like it's low tide
Well I swallowed my pride, but you
Still can't discover that I wanna be your lover

Na na na na na, na na na na na, na na na na na
Na na na, na na na na, na na na na na
Na na na na na, na na na na na na na na
Na na na na na na na na na, na na na na na
Na na na na na, na na na, na na na na

The Jogger

The Jogger
Composer(s): Shel Silverstein
Performer(s): Bobby Bare

Well, I’ve been a trucker now for 20 years
from the Charleston coast to the Jersey piers
An’ sharin’ the road with the race car nuts and loggers
Sunday drivers, scouts on hikes
Hells Angels on Harley bikes
I never met a roader I didn’t like, 'cept them joggers…

One day I’m rollin’ down 101, I got 18 wheels and a 14-ton
Radio playin’ a good ol’ country rocker
The day was surely a trucker’s dream
the sky was sunny and the air was clean
When up ahead on the road I seen one of them joggers

He was dressed like they do in baby blue
with shortie shorts and a headband too
I yelled "Sweetie, I bet that you are the hit of the men’s room locker
Well I’m a runnin’ late with an overload
so get your Adidas off a this road
I’m L.A. bound and I don’t slow down for dead raccoons or joggers"

"Well without breakin’ stride or losin' poise"
he said "You and that rig sure make some noise
But I can’t talk now, ‘cause I’m racin’ against the clocker
But it’s just nine miles to Forkers Leap
and if you ain’t afraid to race that heap
We’ll see how that ol’ rig holds up against a super jogger"

Race, I must be hearin’ wrong
the boy’s been runnin’ in the sun too long
The only place he’s a racin’ to is a doctor
But before I could say "Hey, thank ya, no"
that fool yells "Ready, get set, go"
And the race is on and we’re off and gone
me and that maniac jogger

I could’ve left him far behind
but I played with him like a fish on a line
And I stayed about a half a mile behind that sucker
Then I pushed her up to forty-five
and he sees me comin’ and he starts to fly
So I kicked her to sixty and shift to high
and finally catch that jogger, and it wasn’t easy

Now I’m doin’ eighty and I turned to check
and he’s stayin’ right with me neck in neck
His hearts a thumpin’ like an engine goin’ poo poon pucker… prooon!!
Then he yelled out
"I hope you’re set, cuz I ain’t shifted into second yet"
Then he unwinds and leaves me behind, eaten the dust of a jogger

Then I see him a joggin’ up into the sky and he yells
"Hey, thanks for the exercise’
And I hope that losin’ the race was not too shockin’
Ya see, my Dad says, ‘Heaven ain’t no place to run’
I try to be an obedient son
So I got to come down to earth to do my joggin’"

Well that’s the story, take it or leave it
my trucker buddies, they believe it
So do them race car nuts and Harley hoggers
And I’m still drivin’ much the same
'cept I don’t call nobody names
And I tip my hat each time I pass one of them good old joggers

Hey, there’s one now
Hey, everybody hangin’ in there
It wasn’t…

Chain Lightning

Chain Lightning Composer(s): Walter Becker - Donald Fagen Performer(s): Steely Dan and multiple other artists

Some turnout, a hundred grand
Get with it we'll shake his hand
Don't bother to understand
Don't question the little man
Be part of the brotherhood
Yes it's chain lightning
It feels so good

Hush brother, we cross the square
Act natural like you don't care
Turn slowly and comb your hair
Don't trouble the midnight air
We're standing just where he stood
It was chain lightning
It feels so good

The Jitney Man

The Jitney Man
Composer(s): Earl Hines - Gerald Valentine
Performer(s): Earl Hines & His Orch.
and multiple other artists

I'm the jitney man
A regular jockey I am
Any place you want to go
I can take you fast or slow
Boodle-e-a-da-a-day
I'm the jitney man

Oh, I can drive I can
Behind this wheel I'm the man
Take it easy in your seat
Everything will be all reet
Holly-la-ally-ah
I'm the jitney man!

You don't even have to call
Look like you're going somewhere
And I'll be there with the door wide open
Waiting to take your fare

I'm the jitney man
Take you and bring you, my friend
I'm always up and down the street
A jitney driver's got to eat
Boo-deedle-a-dee-ah
I'm the jitney man!

Chain Gang Blues

Chain Gang Blues
Composer(s): Spencer Williams
Performer(s): Ma Rainey

Working on the chain gang was not reserved for men alone
Women and young girls could be sentenced too to work on the "county road"
as Ma Rainey sings here

The judge found me guilty, the clerk he wrote it down
The judge found me guilty, the clerk he wrote it down
Just a poor gal in trouble, I know I'm county road bound

Many days of sorrow, many nights of woe
Many days of sorrow, many nights of woe
And a ball and chain everywhere I go

Chains on my feet, padlock on my hand
Chains on my feet, padlock on my hand
It's all on account of stealing a woman's man

It was early this morning that I had my trial
It was early this morning that I had my trial
Ninety days on the county road, and judge didn't even smile

The Jarrow Song

The Jarrow Song
Composer(s): Alan Price
Performer(s): Alan Price; Crashed Out

My name is Geordie McIntyre
An' the Bairns don't even have a fire
So the wife says "Geordie, go to London Town!"
And if they don't give us half a chance
Don't even give us a second glance
Then Geordie, with my blessings, burn them down

Come on follow the Geordie boys
They'll fill your heart with joy
They're marching for their freedom now
Come on follow the Jarrow lads
They'll make your heart feel glad
They're singing now, yes now is the hour

My name is little Billy White
And I know what's wrong and I know what's right
An' the wife says "Geordie, go to London Town!"
An' if they don't give us a couple of bob
Won't even give you a decent job
Then Geordie, with my blessings, burn them down

Come on follow the Geordie boys
They'll fill your heart with joy
They're marching for their freedom now
Come on follow the Jarrow lads
The joy'll make your heart feel glad
They're singing now, yes now is the hour

Well I can hear them an' I can feel them
An' it's as just as if they were here today
I can see them, I can feel them
An' I'm thinking nothing's changed much today

Not all came here to stay their way and die
But they would come and hit you in the eye
Now's the time to realize that time goes on
Nothin' changes, changes, changes

Now I can feel them, I can see them
An' it's as just as if they were here today
I can feel them and I need them
An' I'm thinking nothing's changed much today

Not all that people stay their way and die
But they would come and hit you in the eye
Now's the time to realize that time goes on
And nothin' changes, changes, changes

My name is little Alan Price
I tried to be nice all of my life
But I'm afraid that up to date it doesn't work
Because when you lay some money down
The people try to put you down
Now where do I stand, either side or not

Come on follow this Geordie boy
He'll try and fill your heart with joy
We're marching for our freedom now
Come on follow this Jarrow lad
He'll try and make your heart feel glad
We're sayin' it now, yes now is the hour

Chain Gang (Eddy Mitchell)

Chain Gang ((Adapted from: Chain Gang (English Version) (Sam Cooke) - 1960)) Composer(s): Sam Cooke - Eddy Mitchell Performer(s): Eddy Mitchell - 1963

De douleur je crie...

La, au bout de la terre
Se trouve Chain Gang
La prison de l'Enfer
C'est le nom de Chain Gang

De douleur je crie...

Il n'y a pas de ciel
Au-dessus de Chain Gang
Le soleil et la mer
Sont bien loin de Chain Gang

Nous sommes des centaines
Ignorant, quand notre peine
Sera-t-elle enfin finie
Pour faire naître la vie
Les jours auront passé
Le temps semble s'arrêter
Il n'y a pas de ciel
Au-dessus de Chain Gang
Le soleil et la mer
Sont bien loin de Chain Gang
Et mon cœur te dit
Veux-tu de moi?
Il ne me reste que toi
Tu ne peux m'abandonner
Je ne pourrai t'oublier
Si un jour tu voyais
La prison de Chain Gang
Alors tu comprendrais
Quelle était ma peine
De douleur, tu crieras
Ma, ma, ma, ma, ma vie
Est vraiment finie
Est-il vrai que le paradis
N'est pas fait pour les maudits?
Oooh, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma vie
Est vraiment finie...

Friday I'm In Love

Friday I'm In Love
Spanish Title: Viernes Voy Por Ti
Composer(s): Perry Bamonte; Simon Gallup;
Robert Smith; Porl Thompson; Boris Williams
Performer(s): The Cure

I don't care if Monday's blue
Tuesday's grey and Wednesday too
Thursday I don't care about you
it's Friday I'm in love

Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday Wednesday break my heart
Thursday doesn't even start
it's Friday I'm in love

Saturday wait
and Sunday always comes too late
but Friday never hesitate...

I don't care if Monday's black
Tuesday Wednesday heart attack
Thursday never looking back
it's Friday I'm in love

Monday you can hold your head
Tuesday Wednesday stay in bed
or Thursday watch the walls instead
it's Friday I'm in love

Saturday wait
and Sunday always comes too late
but Friday never hesitate...

dressed up to the eyes
it's a wonderful surprise
to see your shoes and your spirits rise
throwing out your frown
and just smiling at the sound
and as sleek as a shriek
spinning round and round
always take a big bite
it's such a gorgeous sight
to see you in the middle of the night
you can never get enough
enough of this stuff
it's Friday
I'm in love

The Japanese Sandman

The Japanese Sandman
Composer(s): Raymond B. Egan - Richard A. Whiting

Won't you stretch imagination for the moment and come with me
Let us hasten to a nation lying over the western sea
Hide behind the cherry blossoms here's a sight that will please your eyes
There's a baby with a lady of Japan singing lullabies
Night winds breath her sighs here's the Japanese

Just as silent as we came we'll leave the land of the painted fan
Wander lightly or you'll wake the little people of old Japan
May repose and pleasant dreaming be their share while the hours are small
Like an echo of the song I hear the Japanese Sandman
call new days near for all here's the Japanese

Sandman sneaking on with the dew just an old second hand man
He'll buy your old day from you
he will take every sorrow of the day that is through
and he'll give you tomorrow just to start a life anew
then you'll be a bit older in the dawn when you wake
and you'll be a bit bolder with the new day you make
here's the Japanese Sandman trade him silver for gold
just an old second hand man trading new days for old

Friday
Composer(s): J.J. Cale
Performer(s): J.J. Cale

Monday morning comes too early
Work my back to the bone
All day
Monday I keep thinking "weekend’s coming, gonna go home"
Tuesday I hate, oh tuesday
Ain’t no girls on the streets
Tuesday it ain’t good for nothing
Drinking beer and watching tv
Friday, friday evening
Come on friday, it’s been too long
Friday, friday evening
Come on friday, I wanna go home
Wednesday’s hump day, hump day’s wednesday
Over the hump, the week’s half-gone
If I had my pay on wednesday I’d hang out, the hump day’s gone
Thursday, you know I feel better
I can see the end in sight
Think I’ll write myself a letter
Help myself through the night

Chahut-Bahut

Chahut-Bahut
Composer(s): Guy Béart
Performer(s): Guy Béart

Grand-père est prolétaire
Papa consommateur
Moi je suis contestataire
Voici pourquoi quand il s'agit de déménager
Le bahut de la salle-à-manger

Quel chahut on a eu

Chahut-bahut, chahut-bahut
Chahut-bahut, chahut-bahut

Grand-mère lit son bréviaire
Maman l'Observateur
Moi je suis contestataire
Sacré bahut quand on se mit à l'emporter
Chacun tira de son côté

Quel chahut on a eu
Chahut-bahut, chahut-bahut
Chahut-bahut, chahut-bahut

Enfin vaille que vaille
Le bahut s'ébranla
En faisant trembler les murailles
Ne me demandez pas comment il arriva
Cahin-caha dans le brouhaha

Quel chahut on a eu
Pour déplacer l'bahut
On en discutait encore
Lorsque soudain comme je l'avais prévu
Dans un grand chahut-bahut
Le revoici qui traverse le plafond
Et tranche la discussion
Et l'bahut on l'a eu à peine sur les bras
Qu'toute la maison s'effondra
Et l'bahut on l'a eu à peine sur les bras
Qu'toute la maison s'effondra

J'suis baptisée à la bière
Ma nourrice
Sans malice
Me gavait de grosses saucisses
Elle voulait que je grandisse
J'ai grandit et me voilà

Avec ma petite plume et mon chapeau
Mes grandes nattes et ma culotte de peau
Dans les tavernes de Munich
Dès que j'arrive, c'est la panique
yawol

On me fait grimper sur un tonneau
Et je chant comme un petit oiseau
Un grand pichet dans chaque main
On chante, on danse jusqu 'au matin

Ein, suein, grosi, ein, suein, grosi

The Raspberry Song

The Raspberry Song ((aka Everything Is Fresh Today (Jack Hodges))
Composer(s): Milligan
Performer(s): The Goons

(Moriarty)
Oh, oh! Let me out -- my only crime is eating

(Secombe)
Don't worry -- I'll give the screws a song
The warden won't mind

(Bloodnok)
No -- he's doing bird as well
Maestro

(Moriarty)
Take your partners for the ball and chain one step
One, two, three

(Bloodnok)
May I have this dance warden, you can hold my ball

(Secombe)
In a little prison where I'm locked in there is a most pecular fellow
His name is Eccles and he's is in cell nine
But his voice is soft and mellow
He keeps a fruit cart in his cell, and all the convicts knows it
He doesn't sing or rave about his fruit -- he simply blows it

(Bloodnok)
He's doing it all night long

(Secombe)
It's better than any song
No, it isn't very pretty, but you've got to admit it's cute

(Bloodnok)
Never, never

(Secombe)
So all together let it go -- eat more fruit!

(Bloodnok)
Don't tell me he's come to stay

(Secombe)
Let the wardens hear him say
Fruit's in season! Let's be merry!
Apples, plums and the old raspberry
Everything is fresh today

(Bloodnok)
Don't let him get near me, please!

(Secombe)
Every Friday night when work is done
He does not wastes a minute
To the prison warden he hurries 'round where he sings just like a linnet
To hear him blow a melody its great, you can't deny it
And if you've nothing else to do, we'd like the screws to try it

(Bloodnok)
No more, please!

(Secombe)
Get ready and do it now

(Eccles)
The crazy man, you know how

(Bloodnok)
God knows it isn't very pretty

(Secombe)
You've got to admit it's cute

(Bloodnok)
Well...

(Secombe)
All together let it go -- eat more fruit

(Bloodnok)
There isn't a cure they say!

(Secombe)
Let the screws all hear him say

(Eccles)
Don't eat farm laid [wow!]

(Secombe)
Every thing is fresh today

(Bluebottle)
Hello everybody, remember me, Bluebottle?
I'm fourteen now and I have got boils...
Though I don't look very pretty, I'm wearing my new brown suit
The only trouble with it is when I go outside I'm struck by fruit

(Bloodnok)
Don't point him at him I say

(Secombe)
It's a treat to hear him play
Fruit's in season, plums and berries
Apples, pears and the old raspberry

(All)
Everything is fresh to day

(Bloodnok)
Someone open a window, please!

The Itsy Bitsy Spider

The Itsy Bitsy Spider
Composer(s): Carly Simon
Performer(s): Carly Simon

The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout
Down came the rain and washed the spider out
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain
And the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the spout again

I believe in love
And who knows where or when
Bit it's comin' around again

The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout
Down came the rain and washed the spider out
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain
And the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the spout again

I know nothin' stays the same
But if you're willing to play the game
It's comin' around again

The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout
Down came the rain and washed the spider out
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain
And the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the spout again

Chagall

Chagall Composer(s): Jean Ferrat Performer(s): Jean Ferrat

Tous les animaux et les candelabres
Le violon-coq et le bouc-bouquet
Sont du mariage

L'ange à la fenêtre où sèche le linge
Derrière la vitre installe un pays
Dans le paysage

Mon peintre amer odeur d'amandes

Les danseurs ont bu le grand soleil rouge
Qui se fera lune avant bien longtemps
Sur les marécages

Et le cheval-chèvre assis dans la neige
Aimerait parler avec les poissons
Qui sont trop sauvages

Mon peintre amer odeur d'amandes

Le peintre est assis quelque part dans l'ombre
À quoi rêve-t-il sinon des amants
Sur leur beau nuage

Au-dessus des toits à l'horizontale
Dans leurs habits neufs avant d'être nus
Comme leurs visages

Mon peintre amer odeur d'amandes

Marchez sur les mains perdez votre tête
Le ciel est un cirque où tout est jonglé
Et le vent voyage

Tous les animaux et les candelabres
Le violon-coq et le bouc-bouquet
Sont du mariage

Mon peintre amer odeur d'amandes
