Si On Chantait

Si On Chantait
(Dutch Version: Oh, Wat Een Dag - 1974)
Composer(s): Étienne Roda-Gil; Julien Clerc
First release by: Julien Clerc - 1972

La grande ville
Mange la ville
La grande vie
Mange la vie...

Marie si belle
Marie vaisselle
Marie chandelle
Plume d'hirondelle...
Fleur sans colline
Pleur en cuisine
Marie sans fard
Fleur de brouillard...

Si on chantait...
Si on chantait
Si on chantait
Marie dìvine, si on chantait...

Ce qui me peine
N'est pas que je t'aime
Le temps se lasse
Le cœur efface
Parmi les femmes
Pourquoi le taire
Celles qui te ressemblent
Je les préfère...

Marie divine
Sans mousseline
Dans ta cuisine
Je t'imagine...

Si on chantait...
Si on chantait
Si on chantait
Marie dìvine, si on chantait...

Deux et deux quatre
quatre et quatre huit
huit et huit font seize...
Répétez! dit le maître
Deux et deux quatre
quatre et quatre huit
huit et huit font seize
Mais voilà l'oiseau-lyre
qui passe dans le ciel
l'enfant le voit
l'enfant l'entend
l'enfant l'appelle
Sauve-moi
Joue avec moi
oiseau!
Alors l'oiseau descend

L'encre redevient eau
Les pupitres redeviennent arbres
La craie redevient falaise
Le porte-plume redevient oiseau

Oh, Wat Een Dag

Oh, Wat Een Dag
(Adapted from: Si On Chantait - 1972)
Composer(s): Étienne Roda-Gil; Julien Clerc; Herman Pieter de Boer
Performer(s): Conny Vandenbos - 1974

Over het land
Huppelt het licht
Kaatst door de ruit
Op je gezicht
Kom overeind
Trek gauw wat aan
Geef me je hand
Laten we gaan

Ogen vol zon
Vogelenzang
Wind op je wang
Wind in je haar
Oh wat een dag
Oh wat een dag
Hmm wat een dag
Oh wat een dag
Lalalala
Ik voel me licht
Lalalala
Een dag die duizelt in je hoofd
Een dag waarin je weer gelooft
Oh wat een dag vandaag

En in het bos
Geurt de jasmijn
Vlak voor ons uit
Hipt een konijn
Kijk om je heen
Dit is het uur
Voel wat ik voel
Hmmm moeder natuur

Ogen vol zon
Vogelenzang
Wind op je wang
Wind in je haar
Oh wat een dag
Oh wat een dag
Hmm wat een dag
Oh wat een dag
Lalalala
Ik voel me licht
Lalalala
Een dag die duizelt in je hoofd
Een dag waarin je weer gelooft
Oh wat een dag vandaag...

Le Bon Temps Qui Passe

Le Bon Temps Qui Passe
(Adapted from: Come Early Morning - 1972)
Composer(s): Bob McDill; Eddy Mitchell
Performer(s): Eddy Mitchell - 1976

J'ai travaillé
Très dur toute la journée
Dans les champs
Oh!

Oh!
Était bien fermée
J'ai aperçu
Le camion du fermier
J'aurais dû te prévenir avant d'arriver

Le bon temps qui passe
Et me dépasse

Et me dépasse

Drive it, baby, Drive your big love game
Pagan baby, What you got, I need
Don't be saving, Spread your love on me

Aah! Mm-mm-mm!

Pagan Baby, Now won't you rock with me?
Pagan baby, Lay your love on me

Yeah, yeah!
Aah! Hey, hey!

Aah! Hey! Yeah!
Hey! Hey! Haaaaaaay!

Come Early Morning

Come Early Morning
(French Version: Le Bon Temps Qui Passe - 1976)
Composer(s): Bob McDill
First release by: Bob McDill - 1972
Covered by multiple other artists

I been a walkin'
Walkin' in the moonlight
Trippin' in the starlight
Lord
And I'm feelin' down
Walkin' in the shadows

Sneakin' down a side road
Come early mornin'
I'll be there on the edge of town

'Cause I was a thinkin'
Thinkin' 'bout a good thing
Thinkin' 'bout a sweet gleam
Mmm in my honeys eyes
And I was a sinkin'
Feelin' kind a lonesome
Come early mornin'
I'll be home with my honey's side

I have drifted up across the mountain
I have stumbled down the other side
I've been temted tried and troubled
Come early mornin'
I'll be home and satisfied

She gimme little lovin'
Gimme little sunshine
Make me have a good time
Lord
When I'm feelin' blue
And I can't refuse her
I wouldn't misuse her
Come early mornin'
I'll be home with my honey dew

I have drifted up across the mountain
I have stumbled down the other side
I've been tempted tried and troubled
Come early mornin'
I'll be home and satisfied

Paff, Der Zauberdrachen

Paff, Der Zauberdrachen
English Title: Puff (The Magic Dragon)
Composer(s): Leonard Lipton; Fred Oldörp; Peter Yarrow
Performer(s): Marlene Dietrich

Paff, der Zauberdrachen
Lebte am Meer
Auf einem Inselparadies
Doch das ist schon lange her

Der kleine Jackie Paper
Liebte den Paff so sehr
Und ritt auf Paff vergnügt und froh
Oft über Land und Meer

Paff, der Zauberdrachen
Lebte am Meer
Auf einem Inselparadies
Doch das ist schon lange her

Und lockte sie die Ferne
Schwamm Paff bis nach Shanghai
Von seinem Rücken rief dann laut
Der Jackie froh "Ahoi"

Die Schiffe der Piraten
Die nahmen gleich Reißaus
Und alle riefen "Paff in Sicht
Wir segeln schnell nach Haus"

Paff, der Zauberdrachen
Lebte am Meer
Auf einem Inselparadies
Doch das ist schon lange her

Ein Drachen, der lebt ewig
Doch kleine Boys, oh nein
Und so kam für Paff der Tag
Und er war ganz allein

Jackie kam nie wieder
Einsam lag Paff am Strand
Und hieb mit seinem Drachenschwanz
Hoch in die Luft den Sand

Er weinte Drachentränen
Traurig war sein Blick
Doch seine Tränen brachten ihm
Den Jackie nie zurück

Weil er mit Klein-Jackie
Den besten Freund verlor
Schloß er sich in die Höhle ein
Und kam nie mehr hervor

Paff, der Zauberdrachen
Lebte am Meer
Auf einem Inselparadies
Doch das ist schon lange her

Si Nous Mourons

Si Nous Mourons
Performer(s): Jean Ferrat

Composer(s): Nicola Di Bari; Emanuele Fragione;
Bernandino Morichelli; Saveiro Pitarresi
Performer(s): Nicola Di Bari

hai vent'anni ormai cosa aspetti ancora
hai la tua valigia
e' giunta l'ora di partire
come un grande amico
che di colpo ti abbandona
me ne sono andato
sapessi come mi ritorni in mente
insieme a lei
paese dove si nasce
sei come il primo amore
non ti si puo' scordare
paese son stato ingrato
lei non mangiava
se non ero ritornato
paese lei non capiva
che in fondo in fondo
non si vive solo per amore
no lei non lo sa
paese mio questa e' la verita'
ringraziando il cielo
posso dire e' andata bene
resti sempre e solo tu
paese dove si nasce
sei come il primo amore
non ti si puo' scordare
paese son stato ingrato
lei non dormiva
se non ero ritornato
paese lei non capiva
che in fondo in fondo
non si vive solo per amore
no lei non lo sa
paese mio questa e' la verita'

Doin' It The Hard Way

Doin' It The Hard Way Composer(s): Jimmy Van Heusen - Johnny Burke Performer(s): Betty Hutton

At the early age of three
It first occured to me
A girl should always try to improve herself
While the others played with toys
I practiced charm and poise
And finished Dr. Elliot's five foot shell
I exercised each morning
Cold creamed my face each night
Saw my dentist twice a year
Curbed my appetite
And so I modestly admit
It didn't help one single bit!

Some girls can make any man dream
By flashing an innocent gleam
Me, I do and hiccup, curl my upper lip up
Light a roman candle and scream
I have to do it the hard way!

Some girls can wear any old rags
And capture the wolves and the stags
Me, I dress in sables, walk across the tables
Waving three American flags
I have to do it the hard way

Let's say there's a dance
They're playing a waltz
And I want romance
That's when I begin turning sommersalts

Some girls can keep men on their toes
By smiling and throwing a rose
Me, I wrack my noodle, whistle "Yankee Doodle"
Balancing a broom on my nose
Oh Ima telling you why!
I have to do it the hard way
I have to do it the hard way

Suppose there's a park
A boy on a bench
I'm out for a lark
So I make him fall with a monkey wrench

When someone like Hedy Lamarr
Steps into the swankiest bar
All the fellas get up
Light her cigarette up
Me, I'd have to smoke a cigar
And then they call me a car

Dr., is there a chance for me?
Can't you cure this insanity?
I'm tired of tearing up the town being one of the sights
Wearing funny hats trimmed in neon lights
Why must all I always be bettered and scorned
Doin' everything the hard way?

Padre Of Old San Antone

Padre Of Old San Antone
Composer(s): Tim Spencer
Performer(s): Jim Reeves; Richard O'Brien

I strolled to an old mission garden
And as I was kneeling alone
An arm gently fell on my shoulder
It was the Padre of Old San Antone

We went for a walk in the garden
And as we were talking alone
He told why he came to the mission
To the mission in Old San Antone

Then the chapel bells, they rang
And an angel chorus sang
Mi amor del cielo, my love from the sky
From the sky

Then he kneeled down to pray in the garden
And whispered, mi amor, mi corazón, my love, my heart
Then I knew that his love was an angel
The Padre of Old San Antone

Then the chapel bells, they rang
And an angel chorus sang
Mi amor del cielo
From the sky

Then he kneeled down to pray in the garden
And whispered, mi amor, mi corazon
Then I knew that his love was an angel
The Padre of Old San Antone

Permíteme sufrir como has sufrido

Do It To Someone You Love

Do It To Someone You Love Composer(s): Tom T. Hall Performer(s): Tom T. Hall and multiple other artists

The words I love you come easy
To the lips of a liar or a fool
If love talking is what you're thinking of
Then do it to someone you love

Do it to someone you love
Some little things to let them know
They're all you're thinking of
This day and time a little thing
You do could mean so much
So do it to someone you love

A smile comes easy to a strange hello
To someone that you never met
But an old love don't need that smile
It glows with just a touch
So do it to someone you love

Do it to someone you love...

Padre

Padre
Composer(s): Jacques Larue; Alain Romans; Paul Francis Webster
Performer(s): Elvis Presley;
and various other artists

Padre, padre
In my grief I turn to you

The day that we wed you blessed us and said
"May heaven bestow you grace"
There in that holy place
We shared our first embrace

Our cottage was small but richer than all
The palaces of a king
All day the birds would sing
Our hearts were full of Spring

Padre, Padre
What happened to our love so true?
Padre, Padre
In my grief I turn to you

Then she came along and sang him her song
And won him with honeyed lies
She of the golden eyes
Not it's my heart that cries

So I kneel and pray the hours away
And weary my heart has grown
Wond'ring where love has flown
Counting my tears alone

Padre, Padre
Please tell me where my love can be
Padre, Padre
Pray ... for my love ... and me

Si No Oigo A Mi Corazón

Si No Oigo A Mi Corazón
Composer(s): Pedro Aznar
Performer(s): Pedro Aznar

si no oigo a mi corazón

Paddy McGinty's Goat

Paddy McGinty's Goat
(Traditional)
Performer(s): Val Doonican

Mister Patrick McGinty, an Irishman of note
Came into a fortune, so bought himself a goat
Said he, "Sure, of goat's milk I mean to have my fill!"
But when he got his Nanny home, he found it was a Bill

And now all the ladies who live in Killaloo
Are all wearing bustles like their mothers used to do
They each wear a bolster beneath the petticoat
And leave the rest to Providence and Paddy McGinty's goat!

Missis Burke to her daughter said, "Listen, Mary Jane
Now who was the man you were cuddling in the lane?
He'd long wiry whiskers all hanging from his chin"
"Twas only Pat McGinty's goat", she answer'd with a grin

Then she went away from the village in disgrace
She came back with powder and paint upon her face
She'd rings on her fingers, and she wore a sable coat
You bet your life they never came from Paddy McGinty's goat

Little Norah McCarthy the knot was going to tie
She washed all her trousseau and hung it out to dry
Then up came the goat and he saw the bits of white
He chewed up all her falderals, and on her wedding night

"Oh turn out the gas quick!" she shouted out to Pat
For though l'm your bride, sure l'm not worth looking at
I'd got two of ev'rything, I told you when I wrote
But now I've one of nothing, all thro' Paddy McGinty's goat'

Mickey Riley he went to the races t'other day
He won twenty dollars and shouted, "Hip Hooray!!"
He held up the note, shouting "Look what I've got!"
The goat came up and grabbed at it and swallowed all the lot

"He's eaten my banknote," said Mickey, with the hump
They ran for the doctor, he brought a stomach pump
He pumped and he pumped for that twenty dollar note
But all he got was ninepence out of Paddy McGinty's goat

Now old Paddy's Goat had a wonderous appetite
and one day for breakfast he ate some dynamite
A whole box of matches he swallowed all serene
and then he went and gobbled up a quart of paraffin

He sat by the fireside, he didn't give a hang
swallowed a spark and exploded and exploded with a bang
SO if you go to heaven you can bet a dollar note....
that the Angel with the whiskers on is Paddy McGinty's Goat

The End

Do You Ever Fool Around?

Do You Ever Fool Around? Composer(s): Don Griffin - Jerry Strickland Performer(s): Joe Stampley; Moe Bandy

If the time and the place was right
Would you meet me some time late at night
And make love like we both need to
Is this something we could do
It takes a lotta nerve to take a chance
It would be worth it for the sweetest romance
Hope we can get together come time
Now here's the question that's on my mind
Do you ever fool around
Could you lay your wings aside
Does an angel ever touch the ground
Do you ever fool around
I know this would be a first time thing
To make love outside your ring
You're not free and you have your doubts
But with this feeling we'll work it out
'Cause there's a need deep inside that's yours
You won't say yes but you won't say no
And no matter how hard you try

You can't hide the want that's in your eyes
Do you ever fool around
Could you lay your wings aside
Does an angel ever touch the ground
Do you ever fool around

Paddlin' Madelin' Home

Paddlin' Madelin' Home
Composer(s): Harry Woods
Performer(s): Cliff "Ukelele Ike" Edwards;
and various other artists

I love a girl named Madelin'
I know she loves me, too
For ev'ry night the moon is bright
She rides in my canoe

At midnight on the river
I heard her father call
But she don't care and I don't care
If we get back at all

'Cause when I'm paddlin' Madelin' home
Gee! When I'm paddlin' Madelin' home
First I drift with the tide
Then pull for the shore
I hug her and kiss her
And paddle some more

Then I keep paddlin' Madelin' home
Until I find a spot where we're alone
Oh! She never says "No"
So I kiss her and go
Paddlin' Madelin'
Sweet sweet Madelin'
Paddlin' Madelin' home

'Cause when I'm paddlin' Madelin' home
Gee! When I'm paddlin' Madelin' home
First I kiss her a while
And when I get through
I paddle for one mile
And drift back for two

Then I keep paddlin' Madelin' home
Until I find a spot where we're alone
Oh! If she'd only say "Throw your paddles away"
Paddlin' Madelin'
Sweet sweet Madelin'
Paddlin' Madelin' home

Padam ... Padam

Padam ... Padam
Composer(s): Henri Contet; Norbert Glanzberg
Performer(s): Edith Piaf;
and various other artists

Padam...padam...padam...
Il arrive en courant derrière moi
Padam...padam...padam...
Il me fait le coup du souviens-toi
Padam...padam...padam...
Mes vingt ans font battre tambour
Je vois s'entrebattre des gestes
Toute la comédie des amours
Sur cet air qui va toujours
Padam...padam...padam...
Des "je t'aime" de quatorze-juillet
Padam...padam...padam...
Des "toujours" qu'on achète au rabais
Padam...padam...padam...
