L'île

L'île
Composer(s): Brice - Michel Fugain
Performer(s): Michel Fugain

Bye Bye Blues

Bye Bye Blues
Composer(s): Fred Hamm; Dave Bennett;
Bert Lown; Chauncey Gray
Performer(s): Bert Kaempfert
and various other artists

I got a big surprise, when I saw you smile
I never dreamed that it could be
But now I realize since I saw you smile
There's only happiness for me
So...

Bye Bye Blues
Bye Bye Blues
Bells ring, birds sing
Sun is shining, no more pining
Just we two smiling through
Don't sigh, don't cry
Bye Bye Blues

The two of us together, just me and you
Will keep smil-in' smil-in' through
So don't you sigh, and don't you cry
Bye Bye Blues

Lilac Wine

Lilac Wine
Composer(s): James Alan Shelton
First performance: Hope Foye - 1950
Covered by multiple other artists

I lost myself on a cool damp night
Gave myself in that misty light
Was hypnotized by a strange delight
Under a lilac tree
I made wine from the lilac tree
Put my heart in its recipe
It makes me see what I want to see
and be what I want to be
When I think more than I want to think
Do things I never should do
I drink much more that I ought to drink
Because I brings me back you...

Lilac wine is sweet and heady, like my love
Lilac wine, I feel unsteady, like my love
Listen to me... I cannot see clearly
Isn't that she coming to me nearly here?
Lilac wine is sweet and heady where's my love?
Lilac wine, I feel unsteady, where's my love?
Listen to me, why is everything so hazy?
Isn't that she, or am I just going crazy, dear?
Lilac Wine, I feel unready for my love ...

Bye Bye Blackbird

Bye Bye Blackbird
Composer(s): Mort Dixon; Ray Henderson
Originally performed by: Gene Austin
Covered by various other artists

Blackbird, blackbird singing the blues all day
Right outside of my door
Blackbird, blackbird who do you sit and say
There's no sunshine in store

All thru the winter you hung around
Now I begin to feel homeward bound
Blackbird, blackbird gotta be on my way
Where there's sunshine galore

Pack up all my care and woe
Here I go, singing low
Bye bye blackbird
Where somebody waits for me
Sugar's sweet, so is she
Bye bye blackbird

No one here can love and understand me
Oh, what hard luck stories they all hand me
Make my bed and light the light
I'll arrive late tonight
Blackbird, bye bye

Bluebird bluebird calling me far away
I've been longing for you
Bluebird bluebird what do I hear you say
Skies are turning to blue

I'm like a flower that's fading here
Where ev'ry hour is one long tear
Bluebird bluebird this is my lucky day
Now my dreams will come true

Pack up all my care and woe
Here I go, singing low
Bye bye blackbird
Where somebody waits for me
Sugar's sweet, so is she
Bye bye blackbird

No one here can love and understand me
Oh, what hard luck stories they all hand me
Make my bed and light the light
I'll arrive late tonight
Blackbird, bye bye

Li'l Red Riding Hood

Li'l Red Riding Hood
((Danish Version: Ulven Peter (by Peter Belli & Les Rivals) - 1966))
Composer(s): Ronald Blackwell
First release by: Sam The Sham & The Pharoahs - 1966
Covered by multiple other artists

Owoooooooo!
Who's that I see walkin' in these woods?
Why, it's Little Red Riding Hood
Hey there Little Red Riding Hood
You sure are looking good
You're everything a big bad wolf could want
Listen to me

Little Red Riding Hood
I don't think little big girls should
Go walking in these spooky old woods alone
Owoooooooo!

What big eyes you have
The kind of eyes that drive wolves mad
So just to see that you don't get chased
I think I ought to walk with you for a ways

What full lips you have
They're sure to lure someone bad
So until you get to grandma's place
I think you ought to walk with me and be safe

I'm gonna keep my sheep suit on
Until I'm sure that you've been shown
That I can be trusted walking with you alone
Owoooooooo!

Little Red Riding Hood
I'd like to hold you if I could
But you might think I'm a big bad wolf so I won't
Owoooooooo!

What a big heart I have-the better to love you with
Little Red Riding Hood
Even bad wolves can be good
I'll try to be satisfied just to walk close by your side
Maybe you'll see things my way before we get to grandma's place

Little Red Riding Hood
You sure are looking good
You're everything that a big bad wolf could want
Owoooooooo! I mean baaaaaa! Baaa?

Bye Bye Barbara

Bye Bye Barbara
Composer(s): Jack Segal; Paul Vance
Performer(s): Johnny Mathis

Never more to hurt me deep, bye bye Barbara
Never more to make me weep, bye bye Barbara
I have gone in the search of a much truer love than your own

I’ll find me one who understands, bye bye Barbara
Holds my heart in tender hands, bye bye Barbara
I have gone in the search of a much truer love than I’ve known

Just read my note on your door
Just goodbye – nothing more
It’s better to leave you this way
You couldn’t change, I couldn’t stay

Never more to hurt me deep, bye bye Barbara
Never more to make me weep, bye bye Barbara
Since you are what you are
You’ll not very long be alone
I have gone in the search of a much truer love than your own

((Adapted from: Li'l Red Riding Hood (by Sam The Sham & The Pharoahs) - 1966))
Composer(s): Ronald Blackwell - Thøger Olesen
Performer(s): Peter Belli & Les Rivals - 1966

Li'l Ole Kiss Of Fire

Li'l Ole Kiss Of Fire
Composer(s): Lester Allen - Robert Hill
Performer(s): Homer & Jethro

I touch your lips, that's when the trouble starts a-brewin'
I can't resist the brand of 'bacca you are chewin'
And though my heart goes boom, just like a blown out tyre
I'm just plumb crazy for your li'l ole kiss of fire

Just like a calf, you've got me roped and tied and branded
You'd make a fortune with your kissin' if you canned it
And though I know you're true to Lem and Zeke and Willie
I'm still plumb silly for your li'l ole kiss of fire

The flames are flyin', I'm on the pan a-fryin'
What good is there denyin', a-sighin' and a-cryin'
The flame is spurtin', my darlin', I'm a-hurtin'
If I must burn, then darlin', bake me like a bun
'Til I'm well done, 'til I'm well done, oh-oh-oh Lord

Give me your lips and watch me sizzle like a cinder
Just one more kiss and I'll go flyin' out the winder
You got me on the griddle and I'll always be there
Yes, what put me there, your li'l ole kiss of fire

You got a pucker like a possum eatin' 'simmons
The way you kiss, you must have practiced on some lemons
And when you kiss me, you set my mouth on fire
Dadburn that cigar and your li'l ole kiss of fire

Bye, O baby bunting

To get a little rabbit skin
To wrap his baby bunting in

To get a little lambie skin
To wrap his baby bunting in

Bye, O baby bunting
Daddy's gone a hunting
A rosy wisp of cloud to win
To wrap his baby bunting in

Composer(s): Neal Hefti
Performer(s): Count Basie
and multiple other artists

Don't need no palace paved with gold
Don't need more cash than banks can hold
When I get to feelin' a feelin'
For something there ain't too much of
My sweet li'l darlin' gives me her love

Don't catch me chasin' round at night
I'm not impressed by glamour sights
Li'l darlin' may not be as pretty
As some other gals you can see
But my li'l darlin' only loves me

We-e-ell, you know you took my heart and broke it apart
Why didn't I, baby, yeah yeah, didn't I know from the start?
You know you took my love, threw it away
Now you're gonna want my love today
Well, bye bye baby

Well I thought your love was oh so true
And you know me, baby, started lovin' you
You know you took my love, threw it away
Now you're gonna want my love today
Well, bye bye baby
Wo

(x2):
Your love was sweet as wine, any I know so
Don't come back runnin' or knockin' on my front door
Well you said that I was your only girl
& there was no other, yeah, in this whole wide world
You know you took my love, threw it away
Now you're gonna want my love today
Well, bye bye baby

Wo bye bye baby, don't you know oh
Bye bye baby, wo, don't need your love
Yeah yeah, I don't want you, baby
Bye bye baby, yeah, bye bye baby

Bye Bye Baby (Marilyn Monroe & Jane Russell)

Bye Bye Baby
Composer(s): Jule Styne; Leo Robin
Performer(s): Marilyn Monroe & Jane Russell

Jane:
Bye, bye, baby
Remember you're my baby
When they give you the eye
Although I know that you care
Won't you write and declare
That though on the loose
You are still on the square

I'll be gloomy
But send that rainbow to me
Then my shadows will fly
Though you'll be gone for a while
I know that I'll be smilin'
With my baby by and by, and by
With my baby by and by

(In the sweet by and by)
(Bye, bye, baby, bye, bye, baby, bye, bye)
(We will meet on the beautiful shore)
(Bye, bye pretty baby)
(You better remember you're my baby)
(When they give you the eye, my my)
(Although I know that you care)
(Won't you write and declare)
(Declare that though on the loose)
(You are still staying on the square)

Jane:
I'll be gloomy
(But send that rainbow to me)

Jane & Chorus:
Then my shadows will fly
Though you'll be gone for awhile
I know that I'll be smiling
With my baby by and by
Jane:
And by
With my baby, by and by

Marilyn:
I'll be in my room alone
Every post meridian
And I'll be with my diary
And that book by Mister Gideon

Bye, bye, baby
Remember you're my baby
When they give you the eye
And just to show that I care
I will write and declare
That I'm on the loose
But I'll stay on the square

I'll be lonely
But even though I'm lonely
There'll be no other guy
Though I'll be gone for a while
I know that I'll be smiling
With my baby by and by, and by
With my baby, by and by

(I'll be gloomy)
(But send that rainbow to me)
(Then my shadows will fly)
(Though you'll be gone for a while)
(I know that I'll be smiling)
(With my baby bye and bye)

(Bye, bye, baby)
(Remember you're my baby)
(When they give you the eye)
(Although I know that you care)
(Won't you write and declare)

Marilyn:
That though on the loose
You are still on the square

All:
I'll be gloomy
But send that rainbow to me
Then my shadows will fly
Though you'll be gone for a while
I know that I'll be smiling
With my baby bye and bye
With my wonderful baby
By and by
(Bye-bye, bye-bye, bye-bye)

Matrimonial Stomp

Matrimonial Stomp
Composer(s): Gene de Paul - Johnny Mercer
Performer(s): André Previn; Shelly Manne; Percy Faith

Dearly beloved
we is gathered her today He's Startin' To
Dearly Beloved
To put an unfortunate, muzzuble critter away
Better' He Wuz Hung First

Remember poor Adam who got married and so it began
That mizzuble race of creatures known as the married man
Married Man

Then think about Sampson who was Israel's strongest male
The Strongest
Till little Delilah went and give him a pony-tail
"Pony-Tail"

State yo objections
O' forever hold yo' peace, He's Tellin' You!
State Your Objections
You's singin' a genuine
Iron-clad, permanent lease
Never No Escape Clause

Don't let me influence you in say'in those fatal words
Fatal Words!
Just let me remind you, getting married is for the birds
For The Birds!

You gets up at the crack of dawn
That's Right!
Slops the hogs and y' mows the lawn
Poor Soul!
Saws the wood and reforms the chores, Unn Hunnh!
While the rainy and wet out doors "A-Chew"
You comes home to familiar scenes, Ah, Yes!
And a plate of familiar beans, "Oh, No"!
There's twenty-two screamin' kids, All Mine?
Makin' both of you flip yo' lids, What Else?
You is jumpin' out of your skin, Your Nerves!
Then yo' mother-in-law moves in, For Good?
There's no place to rest yo' head, No Sir!
'Cause there's other folks in yo' bed Unknowns!
You has got to escape the noise Fat Chance!
So you has a drink with the boys 'Bout Time!
You proceeds to the Old Brass Rail, Your Check!
The police man throws you in jail, No Dough!
You can't get a cent from your wife
They incarcerate you for life

Now, if you still wants this little gal as yo' lawful mate
By the powers invested, I pronounce you man and ... Wait!

Bye Bye Baby (Johnny Hallyday & Sylvie Vartan)

Bye Bye Baby
Composer(s): M. Mallory; E. Vartan
Performer(s): Johnny Hallyday & Sylvie Vartan

Elle s'appelle Sylvie Vartan
Et lui Johnny Hallyday

Bye bye baby
Bye bye honey

On me l'a également demandé souvent

Performer(s): Peter Palmer, Imogene Lynn, Nelson Riddle Orch.

Daisy Mae:
I wish it could be otherwise
Otherwise I’m sorry we met at all
I’m sorry we ever had to start with
Those wonderful dreams
You broke my heart with
I wish there was some other way
Like it is, our backs is against the wall
Just seems

Daisy Mae and Li’l Abner:
That fate put this heart of mine
Under some ancient sign
Or otherwise you’d still be mine
All mine
Or otherwise you’d still be mine

Progress Is The Root Of All Evil

Progress Is The Root Of All Evil
Composer(s): Gene de Paul - Johnny Mercer
Performer(s): Howard St. John & Lehman Engel

Progress is the root of all evil
Progress is the cause of it all
Our living standard’s now so good, I had to change my neighborhood
Where is Levitown?
Billionaires are getting old fashioned, labor is the new fangled craze
These lousy basic minimums are getting so high
The workers in the plant are living better than I
My lawyers all advise me that it’s cheaper to die!
Bring back the good old days

Progress is the root of all evil, Wall Street is the worst of the lot
How can you break the market now?
The SEC will not allow - one little panic
Money nowadays is no problem, not with all these new giveaways
I went to see a television quiz show today
I thought at least I’d wind up with a Caddy Coupe’
But dammit if they didn’t try to give me away!
Bring back the good old days

Progress is the root of all evil, progress is the cause of it all
The world has now progressed so far
we don’t know where the hell we are – ask Harry Truman
Gone are all the lovely Strauss waltzes, Rock ‘N Roll’s becoming the craze
The modern generation’s taste is really complex
The very thing we used to love it quickly rejects
Whoever thought that outer space would overtake sex?
Bring back the good old days

Bye Bye

Bye Bye
Composer(s): Jean-Jacques Debout; Roger Dumas
Performer(s): Dalida

Bye bye I'année quatre vingt un

Bye bye
C'est un mot merveilleux
Qu'on dit quand on se quitte en chantant
Qu'on se reverra dans pas longtemps
Ciao ciao
Ce n'est pas un adieu
Ciao ciao
