Tante Heintje 100 jaar

Hoera hoera…. Tante Heintje is 100 jaar! Gefeliciteerd!

Hoera, hoera ! Our tante Heintje is 100 years old. Congratulations!
Sorry I missed the date, but former neighbourgirl Jannie Dinkelman send me the mail about an article in the Stentor.

De Stentor .

A cheerful mind, the medicin to turn a 100 years.

Laughing every day… that’s the medicin to get your 100 years. Positive in life is your guaranty to reach the 100.

In retirement home De Borkel where she celebrated her 100th birthday, Heintje Jansen- Eggink is telling about her strong family. More brothers and sisters reached a very high age.

When you are looking at her you wouldn’t guess she is 100 yet. She is talking, very clearly and can understand another when it’s not too busy around her. She is reading her books and sometimes she listens with great pleasure to a spoken book.

She had to work hard with the farm and the care of her 10 children. Before she married she worked on the castle Rhederoord in De Steeg as a chambermaid.
Her daughter Nel also mentions her positive character, while she has had times of sorrow too. Her first husband died when he was only 60. It felt like the walls of the house would fall on me. I asked my eldest daughter what to do. And she said: go swimming, So she did until she was about 75.

However she missed the company of a husband. And she did marry again. Her new husband didn’t have any children. but with her 10 he was happy too.

She also had time for her passion: travelling and so she did. During her marriage with her first husband there was no time on their farm and the care of her 10 children and he also didn’t want to go abroad. But now she went to Amerika and Australie to visit her family.

Both World Wars she saw. But that weren’t the most impressing moments. That was when the children came home and were sitting at the table telling about what has happened that day. She loved those moments… so cosy all of them together. Her ten children and 19 grandchildren and 18 grand-grandcildren now.

As she has reached that number of 100, she would like to surpass the oldest inhabitant of the Borkel. The oldest one, a woman, will be 107 next month.

Morgen is Coba jarig.

About a yellow paper

Probably a note from opa to tante Jo at the end of his life. His AOW he divided among his children again and now Jo is the last one.

From home

I wanted at least this month to give all the children a yellow paper (ƒ25) and then send Herman the next month, if I'm still there, a $ 100 mail .. I've neglected him too long.
Jo and you are the last one yet. Dika just came, otherwise she would have been last. The children go to church Sunday and then I will go to Dika's place.
Tomorrow it's Coba's birthday. They will come and collect me ànd Gerritje of the baker too by car.
It seemed to be a normal day with lots of work last Sunday by all those visits. I do not quite remember, but at least 12 visitors came. Bartje of the Jager also.
Jantje thought they could better have come on 4 Sundays. Driekus and his wife from Beekbergen did come too. So we've got too much for one Sunday. And yes... there is no special news any more and stop it.
Hope you can read my handwriting.

Greetings of all the three of us.

Father

ps With Gerritje the baker is meand opoe Bruins, the grandma of the Bijenhofjes from the Wildenborch. As always they were collected on birthdays at De Boomgaard. At Bruins was formerly a bakery ... so!

Tijd om te veranderen....

Hallo allemaal,

In tante Jo’s photoalbum I found this picture with the subscription: De kattenkraom van tante Jantje—all cats stalled together--. Tante Jantje loved children as well as her animals, a lot of cats and always one dog. This one looks like that one from yesterday on that chair near opa. It maybe Tilly.
In the barn on the background was opa’s workshop. It was for me a kind of holy place because it was told about that radio opa had build and the perpetual motion which opa had build too, but , opa regretted that very much, only had moved for just one year. Tja…. that place… was both wonderful and strange to me.

A picture can tell a lot. It’s probably opa’s birthday, since they are sitting at the table in the large kitchen, as we called so. I think it’s Nanny, Wim Groot Nuelends wife who is seated over there. Hardly our photographer left his seat… Tilly jumped on that nice and warm place nearby opa. He’s a part of the family. On that sideboard is that picture to be seen of our dad Hendrik Jan.

Hallo Goodbye 2

When you have a large family there are enough to bring you at the airport. Here you can see opa, ome Jan and tante Jantje, tante Hanna en ome Gerrit, ome Hendrik Jan and I'm sure tante Jo would be there too.

This way it happened at that time. Opa with hat and he is happy to use his binoculars.

Hallo Goodbye in 1965

When I have a look at this picture and I see that hat…. Of whom I have to think? Corrie van Gorp of course as a type at the theatre together with our own comic André van Duin.
But here it’s Hanna who said good bye to Herman before he and Nettie flew back home
In tante Jo’s album I found a few pictures of that fare well in 1965.
A different airport Schiphol than nowadays. You had to walk to the staircase of the plane.
Tante Nettie also took a picture from beneath of the family.

Herman als keukenhulp

Winter 1965

The winter of 1965

This winter Wim and I got married. And…. Herman and Nettie were in Hattem with all of us. We’ll never forget it.
Here is Herman helping in the kitchen. It must have been very special. I doubt it if he took that tea towel at home to do the same job.

"That's Hermans car", tante Jantje said. But who that is on this picture? It might be Nettie's father... van Heuvelen".
I don't know either. Somebody else perhaps?

Zo is ’t leven hier.

Sunday 11 oclock.-- Was a few hours at the neighbour’s, a Friesian, and I’m home again and going on with my letter to you. There is no news any more, but when you are writing your children you easy can write without news. I’m just thinking that Hanna is living and working near you. So I will write to Hanna too.

--For Hanna-- I was very happy with your letter last week and those lovely pictures. Believe me I’m thinking of all of you every day, from Hanna to Bram. With my 54 years I would be able to get used to live here, but I have to bring all of you with me and that’s not possible. And even when it could be I won’t advise you to do so. You have to live and work here for at least one year as a bachelor to work as a farmhand, for you have to learn everything. And when you read about all those American customs it will not help you much. The Americans cannot be saving ( live economical… oei!). It’s not well that the gouvernment is helping the farmers. When they are reaching a deadlock, they might not sell you this and that and that. So when you are finished…. you are able to go on with farming( I don’t understand opa here) So is life here.
Is it with you on “Welna” also 85º in shadow. I’m sure it’s not.
Until now I’m doing fine in this weather, it’s not as sultry as it can be in Holland. It will be 15º more. Strange country. It’s freezing hard when it’s freezing. It’s blowing very hard when it blows.. It’s raining much harder and it is much warmer. And in between they are doing as well as in Holland. Yes zus, the paper is getting full. I’m glad I ‘ve been with you that Monday before I left. So my children, Hanna and Jootje, hearty greetings from your father, who will never forget you.

Daar bedoelt men de grote banken in Chicago en New York mee. ’t Is hier alles anders.

Some things are just the same as it is in Holland. No money. They say that’s all gone to the east. They mean the big banks in Chicago and New York.
However I like it very much here, I think that I’m to old to start a farm here for my self. It’s all different. I’m hardly able to harness a horse. When it’s harnessed I’m able to work with 2, 3 or even 4 horses. About my travelling I’ve already written to home, so you will have heard about it. Tell your Mister and Misses that it was such a beautiful world those three hours by train before I reached New Hampton.
On places like here where it is flat there can be a very strong wind and it can be so very dusty you quite cannot imagine.
I keep my diary almost every day, so later on you can see what I’ve done here all the time.
But not lazing about, that nothing for me.
Next week I would like to visit Theo Kaemingh in Sioux Center and perhaps the Levenkamps too. Most of the work of this moment is done, the corn has been planted and the potatoes are put.. It’s not so early, but it will be all right they told me.
Last week I’ve got 4 pictures in Hanna’s letter, 2 from the Bijvanck ( where Jo worked at that time). They were lovely and 2 from Dika with their little Jan, very nice too. A pity you are not on it, but come on… I’m glad that my little Jo bears up and has written me such a long letter., what a sacrifice to you, I’ll keep it very well.
O yes that Geertje’s behaviour is so cold it’s a pity for you, but Geertje will not be happier by that. I – to early- was thinking that she should see that we aren’t able to dance through life.
Try to be well with her.
It’s nice you met acquaintances on the conformation class. Now I’m ready with writing but I’ll not close the letter, perhaps tomorrow…
